Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Bullying
After a long moment, Joel Quincy pushed up his glasses and took a deep breath. As he looked up, light glinted off his lenses. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
His voice trembled slightly.
"Chloe, if the theory holds up, I’ll support you no matter what."
Even if they couldn’t reassemble the controllable nuclear fusion device, he would spare no expense to complete this experiment.
’What would a twenty-year leap forward mean?’
A single year could bring immense change to a country, let alone twenty.
A fervent glint flashed in Joel Quincy’s eyes, but an even greater shock was yet to come.
Chloe Sinclair said, "More importantly, the device has built-in radiation shielding. Compared to this Mark Device, the shielding function has been improved by seventy percent."
While it couldn’t block all the radiation, such a massive improvement was already far beyond Joel Quincy’s expectations.
Finally, Joel Quincy tapped lightly on the desk before him. After a long moment of contemplation, he said, "If you run into any difficulties, just let me know."
"Okay."
After finishing her conversation in the office, Chloe Sinclair returned to Emberfall University.
Although she understood all the material from her professors’ lectures, listening to them still constantly sparked new ideas.
Chloe Sinclair felt that this kind of campus life was actually quite nice.
She almost never went back to her dorm. The only times she did were when she had a free afternoon but not enough time to go back to her apartment, so she would rest in the dorm for a while.
However, between taking time off and focusing on her experiments, she hadn’t been back to her dorm room in quite a while.
What she didn’t expect was that upon returning to her dorm room, she would find her bedding soaked in filthy water and covered in muddy prints.
Chloe Sinclair climbed down from her bed, her gaze darkening. "Who did this?"
The other three roommates were in the dorm. Hearing Chloe Sinclair’s question, none of them looked up, each pretending to be absorbed in their own tasks.
"I’m asking you. Who did this?"
Chloe Sinclair’s dark eyes swept across the room, finally landing on Zoe Yates’s back.
Zoe Yates tensed up and said instinctively, "Chloe, it really wasn’t me."
"Of course I know you didn’t do it."
A gentle smile touched Chloe Sinclair’s lips, but her tone dripped with sarcasm the next second. "But you were the one who put them up to it, right?"
Before Zoe Yates could retort, Chloe Sinclair continued, "You have Sylvia Holloway and Evelyn Thompson completely wrapped around your finger. So, Sylvia poured the water, and Evelyn made the footprints."
"I’m not wrong, am I, Zoe Yates?"
Chloe Sinclair tilted her head, her smile growing even wider.
Zoe Yates’s heart skipped a beat, but she instinctively tried to deny it. "Chloe, you’ve misunderstood."
Chloe Sinclair let out a soft "Oh?" before retorting, "Then what about the dirty water and footprints on my bed? Don’t tell me you didn’t see them?"
Zoe Yates opened her mouth, managing a pale smile, but she lowered her head again after meeting Chloe Sinclair’s eyes.
Chloe Sinclair scoffed.
’Zoe Yates was hardly any more skilled than Nina Sinclair. After all this time, Nina at least knew how to be subtle with her dirty tricks, but it was a pity Zoe still hadn’t figured it out.’
"Chloe Sinclair, don’t you dare accuse Zoe! So what if Sylvia and I were the ones who made the footprints and poured the water? What are you gonna do, go tell everyone that your roommates are bullying you?"
Evelyn Thompson slammed her hand on the table with a loud CRACK and shot to her feet, her face flushed with anger.
"So what if we don’t want you as a roommate?"
Chloe Sinclair paused for a second, then let out a snort. She shook her head, her tone full of mock resignation. "Of course, I can’t do anything to you."
Then, her tone shifted. "However, I do know that your life is about to get very difficult."
