Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Machine Control Algorithm
Chloe Sinclair went to Landon Sinclair’s research lab the very next day.
Landon Sinclair’s research lab was on the outskirts of Kennet. Chloe had been there in her past life, so she knew the way by heart.
Just as Chloe arrived, she saw Landon standing at the entrance.
Landon didn’t normally wear glasses. But scientific research required meticulous observation, with no detail overlooked, so he often wore a pair of black-framed glasses while working.
The long, white lab coat he wore made him look tall and slim.
Chloe pulled up, and Landon walked over to open the car door for her.
"First, I’ll show you around. If there’s anything you don’t understand in the lab, feel free to ask me."
Chloe nodded.
Landon had prepared thoroughly this time, explaining the lab’s research equipment and the purpose of each room in meticulous detail.
Chloe had spent ten years in her past life working with this kind of equipment; she knew exactly what everything was for, even without Landon’s tour.
After Landon had shown her most of the lab, he suddenly asked, "I heard my little sister was the top scorer in the nation. Congratulations."
Chloe smiled and teased, "It’s nothing compared to my second brother, who got a guaranteed spot at Emberfall University back in the day."
Landon didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He knew the little rascal was just teasing him.
He ruffled her hair, a hint of affection in his eyes, and led Chloe to the main lab hall.
There were twenty or thirty people in the main lab hall, and upon seeing their boss arrive, they all stopped what they were doing.
Seeing this, Landon announced, "This is my little sister, Chloe Sinclair. She’ll be conducting some experiments here for a while. If there’s anything she doesn’t understand, I hope you’ll all help her out."
The crowd immediately nodded in assurance.
After all, just a short while ago, their boss had suddenly returned to the lab and fired several people without a word. One of them had even been a top assistant.
Not only were they fired, but shortly after, a number of police officers had come to the institute and taken the dismissed employees away directly.
Consequently, everyone had been on edge for the past few days, terrified of angering their boss.
With Chloe’s arrival, the staff heard Landon speak to them in such a gentle tone for the very first time.
Although Landon looked mild-mannered, he was, in fact, incredibly strict.
It didn’t matter how much clout you had on the outside; once you entered the institute, any experimental error would, at best, earn you a tongue-lashing. At worst, you’d get a tongue-lashing and then be fired.
Seeing Landon treat someone so gently for the first time, everyone turned their curious gazes toward Chloe.
Chloe disliked being scrutinized by so many people at once, so she asked in a low voice, "Second Brother, can we go to the lab now?"
Landon paused for a moment before realizing. "Right. I’ll take you there now."
With that, he led Chloe away. freewebnøvel.coɱ
When Chloe saw her designated lab, she was a little surprised.
"Second Brother, isn’t this lab a bit too big?"
Chloe glanced around. The lab was roughly two hundred square meters, about the same size as the communal lab in the main hall. All the instruments were brand new, and more importantly, much of the equipment was restricted.
Without official approval, it was nearly impossible to acquire.
"I knew you could use these things, so don’t worry. Your paper on the three-dimensional quantum Hall effect has already passed the first review for *Science* magazine. Professors from all over the world are constantly trying to get information on you, but I’ve managed to keep it under wraps."
Landon paused, his tone suddenly growing serious. "Chloe, I need you to promise me one thing."
Chloe looked up and answered without hesitation, "Okay."
Landon was very satisfied. "Even though your name isn’t famous in our circle yet, the news of your successful three-dimensional quantum experiment has spread like wildfire. In the future, you’ll probably get a lot of invitations from international professors. I want you to refuse them."
"I know it’s selfish of me to ask this, but Chloe, our country is in desperate need of a talent like you."
A flicker of sorrow crossed Landon’s eyes, and he didn’t say more.
But Chloe understood perfectly.
’Zenthia has a massive population. How could it possibly lack talent?’
’The issue is that these people attend prestigious universities, cultivated by the nation, only to end up working in foreign laboratories.’
’The top universities constantly churn out talent, but in the end, they just supply a steady stream of it to other countries.’
’The brain drain has been too severe in recent years. Technology abroad is constantly advancing, while Zenthia’s technology continues to lag behind.’
Landon didn’t want her to become one of them.
In the spacious lab, their breathing was the only sound.
Landon stared at Chloe, his deep-set eyes unblinking, a tense look on his face.
Chloe froze for a moment. Then, she lifted her head, took two steps back, her eyes filled with resolve. "Second Brother, I love my country."
’In this country were her family, her friends, and the man she had loved across two lifetimes.’
Landon breathed an inward sigh of relief.
He didn’t know what expression he would have worn to face his sister if she had answered differently.
His teachers, his classmates, his colleagues, his employees—one by one, they had all left for money or for a better research atmosphere.
When he was younger, it had made him angry. After a while, he grew numb and simply saw it as normal.
But no one had ever said words like, "I love this country," to him before.
Chloe was indirectly telling him that she would devote her life to the field of physics in Zenthia.
"Chloe, I’m so proud of you."
The rims of Landon’s eyes were slightly red, but his gaze shone brightly. "I’ll head out now. If you need anything, come find me in Room 001."
"Okay."
After seeing Landon off, Chloe began to inspect and organize the research equipment in the lab.
She discovered that Landon was far more thorough than she had imagined.
In just a few short days, he had somehow managed to acquire so much scarce equipment.
After finishing all of this, Chloe moved to the workbench.
Chloe changed into one of the institute’s lab coats, put on a pair of goggles, and, tools in hand, began to re-examine White.
She had only given it a cursory scan before. Now, after a more thorough inspection, she discovered White’s condition was even more serious than she had imagined.
The power switch was completely fried, the tactile sensors were malfunctioning, the pulse signal had failed, the camera was cracked, and the Raspberry Pi chip was unresponsive.
Anyone else would have probably just had the robot scrapped for parts.
But Chloe only frowned slightly before beginning her work.
She had already run countless simulations in the system days ago.
Thus, dismantling White’s body seemed effortless.
White’s M2 system was already the most advanced in the country, but Chloe planned to scrap it completely and start calculating a new algorithm from scratch.
Seeing this, Eight, the system, couldn’t hold back. "You’re going to create a new machine control system? Have you gone mad?"
