Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Washing Hair
"Two bags? Don’t you go eating too many," Su Li cautioned. "You’re about to start losing your teeth, so you can’t eat a lot."
Little Tang Mo nodded emphatically and wouldn’t let Su Li hold them, putting the candy into his own backpack to carry.
Su Li watched him and couldn’t help but laugh, but she didn’t say anything else.
The next day, Su Li called Wu Sheng again. She was relieved to hear he sounded energetic.
In the afternoon, Su Li didn’t have class, so she took the contractor Wu Sheng had found for her to see the factory. After they finished their business and signed the contract, she went home.
She was startled when she got to her door.
Because Wu Sheng was leaning against her door, dozing.
That’s right, actually dozing.
He was leaning against the wall, bleary-eyed, and only opened his eyes when he heard Su Li’s footsteps.
"Where have you been? I waited for you for ages. I’m cold, hungry, thirsty, and sleepy from waiting."
Su Li was puzzled. "Why are you here?"
Wu Sheng held out his bandaged hand for Su Li to see. "Shouldn’t you first show some concern for an injured party?"
Looking wronged, he tugged on Su Li’s sleeve. "Hurry up and open the door."
Su Li laughed in resignation. "Are you pouting?"
"If you won’t do it, then I have to. The girl is supposed to be the one to act cute."
Wu Sheng couldn’t help but laugh at his own words. "It’s fine. Just take some notes, and you can do it in the future."
Su Li pressed a hand to her forehead. "You’re really something else..."
’She didn’t even know what to say.’
In any case, he succeeded in making her laugh. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Open up, open up. This injured man needs to be cared for."
Wu Sheng tugged on Su Li’s sleeve again.
Handsome people really did have confidence to spare; even this unconventional pouting looked cute.
Su Li opened the door, and Wu Sheng bounced inside. "I’m freezing to death, freezing to death."
He came inside and sat obediently on the sofa, drinking some water. When he finished, his gaze fell on the food container Su Li had just brought home.
"Where’d you get the food container?"
Su Li hesitated. "Yu Zhengqing gave it to me. I ran into him yesterday, so today..."
"Oh..." Wu Sheng drew the sound out long and slow.
’So it’s from that annoying Yu.’
He looked at the food container, then rubbed his stomach. "I’m so hungry, Su Li. Can I eat it?"
Su Li: "....You can."
Wu Sheng was immediately satisfied. "I was afraid you wouldn’t want to share it with me."
Su Li rolled her eyes at him. "Stop talking nonsense. Yu Zhengqing and I are just friends."
"You saw right through me. When a man gets jealous, it’s even scarier than when a woman does." Wu Sheng instantly sat up properly.
After a couple of bites, Wu Sheng gave an objective evaluation. "This is good. Really good."
"If you like it, have some more." Su Li rearranged the containers. "These two dishes have green onions and ginger, which you can’t eat."
"It’s fine," Wu Sheng said, shaking his head.
’I’m going to eat every last dish!’ fгeewebnovёl.com
Though he was ambitious and had the appetite to match, Su Li still didn’t let him touch the things he wasn’t supposed to eat.
Wu Sheng clearly enjoyed being taken care of by Su Li and didn’t resist at all.
"Give me a little more."
"I’ll have more."
"I want more."
Once he was finally fed, Wu Sheng quieted down a bit and went to obediently play with the sensitive plant.
He even remembered to give it some water from the little pot.
"When we’re old, we can do this too. We can grow flowers and plants, water them and pull the weeds every day. How great would that be?"
Wu Sheng said suddenly as he watered the plant.
When Su Li didn’t reply, he didn’t seem anxious. "We could also grow some vegetables. We could start a couple of vegetable patches. When they’re ready, I’ll cook them for you. They’ll taste amazing."
Listening to Wu Sheng, Su Li found herself unconsciously imagining a retirement spent growing vegetables and flowers.
That was the kind of life she yearned for.
She just hoped to live out her natural lifespan. When she was old and retired, she could grow flowers and plants and spend her golden years in peace.
Wu Sheng... he really knew how to say the right things to get to her.
’Then again, that’s probably a simple wish for many people.’
A harmonious family with loving parents in childhood, working hard in your youth, making steady progress in middle age, and then enjoying a peaceful retirement—that would be a full life.
Wu Sheng put down the watering can and scratched his head. "Su Li, my hair’s dirty, and my scalp is really itchy."
Under Su Li’s suspicious gaze, Wu Sheng continued with perfect nonchalance, "I was supposed to wash it last night, but I can’t with my hand like this."
He ignored her strange look. "Could you help me wash it? A quick rinse is all it needs."
Su Li glanced around. "I don’t really have the right setup for that here."
She paused. "Your hair is short. Can’t you wash it with one hand?"
"Su Li, have you forgotten the doctor’s orders? He said my wound can’t touch water. What if there’s an accident while I’m washing it myself and it gets wet?"
Wu Sheng gave her a look that said, ’How can you be so cruel?’
"...What kind of accident can happen from washing your hair?"
"Why not? With my hand out of commission, I could get soap in my eyes, then in the pain and panic, my hand might get wet. And that’s the best-case scenario! I might fumble, slip, and fall... piling one injury on top of another."
Wu Sheng shook his head. "I don’t mean anything by it. I’m just asking you to help me wash my hair. I’ll cooperate, I won’t fidget, and I promise I won’t try anything funny."
"But I really don’t have the right setup to wash your hair here. Why don’t we go to a salon? Or you could go back and have one of your army buddies wash it for you?"
Su Li was, in fact, a little embarrassed.
Washing someone’s hair... that was a very intimate act. Leaping straight to this stage seemed a bit fast.
"What kind of setup do you need to wash hair? All it takes is a basin of water. You said it yourself, my hair’s short. It’ll be done in no time."
Wu Sheng pursed his lips. "And don’t even mention going to a salon. I’m not going to a salon. That’s where little girls go."
He sighed, then suddenly seemed to deflate, lowering his head as he sat on the sofa.
Wu Sheng was rarely quiet around Su Li; he was usually full of life...
This was the first time he had become so quiet and listless.
And it lasted for a rather long time.
A minute passed, and he was still the same, like a plant wilted by the sun.
In the end, of course, Su Li was the one to surrender.
"Okay, I’ll wash it for you."
Wu Sheng instantly perked up.
"Okay."
"Let me think about how to do this," Su Li mused.
"Just use warm water. You don’t need to prepare anything," Wu Sheng said, exceptionally eager. "I’ll be very cooperative."
Su Li ignored him.
Five minutes later, Wu Sheng was lying obediently on the sofa. Su Li gently cradled his head and began to wash his hair.
Beneath his head was a small stool topped with a washbasin. With no bathtub or anything similar for him to lie in, they had to improvise.
Wu Sheng stared up at Su Li. She glanced down at him. "Close your eyes."
"I don’t want to." Feeling Su Li’s hands in his hair, Wu Sheng was bubbling with happiness.
"Don’t be such a smooth-talker." Su Li leaned back slightly. ’What is he even looking at?’ she wondered. ’There can’t be much of a view from this weird angle.’
"I’m not being a smooth-talker. Everything I say is true, Su Li..." He lifted his uninjured hand as if to grab hers, but then thought better of it and let it fall.
He let out a little chuckle. "I’m just really happy."
Su Li fought to keep herself from blushing as she applied the shampoo. "You said it was itchy. Where?"
"Everywhere," Wu Sheng replied after a pause.
"Let me scratch it for you. Is this pressure okay? Too hard?" As soon as she asked, Su Li felt like she’d turned into one of those young assistants at a hair salon.
"Nope, not at all," Wu Sheng answered, smiling up at Su Li.
"What are you smiling at?"
"I’m just happy." A smile touched the corners of his eyes and brows.
