Chapter 279: Chapter 279: True Face

Su Li coughed, changing the subject. "Aren’t you cold?"

You’re only wearing a coat. You don’t even have a scarf or gloves.

"I’m fine." Just as Wu Sheng finished speaking, the school bell rang.

"School’s out." Su Li hurried to wait at the gate.

Wu Sheng stood behind Su Li, watching Little Tang Mo wave goodbye to his classmates and run happily toward Su Li with a big smile.

"Be careful, don’t fall." Su Li straightened Little Tang Mo’s scarf. "Uncle Wu is here."

Little Tang Mo looked up at Wu Sheng and nodded with a beaming smile.

Su Li looked at the few snowmen on the playground. "You guys even built snowmen. Little Mo, did you build one?"

Little Tang Mo nodded and pointed out the one he had built.

"You built that one? It’s beautiful. You’re so good!" Su Li praised him.

"What’s so good about that? I can build one much better-looking than this," Wu Sheng commented from the side.

"Then why don’t you build one?" Su Li huffed.

"Fine, I’ll build one. But let’s go eat first, I’m starving." Wu Sheng rubbed his stomach. "It’s so cold today, let’s go get some lamb hot pot."

"Okay. I still owe you a meal from last time, so this is the perfect chance to treat you."

Su Li nodded, tempted by the idea.

On a cold winter day like this, not having to cook and getting to eat hot pot was the best.

"Let’s go, then." Wu Sheng led the way. "Get in the car."

He opened the car door. Just as Su Li and Little Tang Mo were about to get in, she heard the voice of Little Tang Mo’s class teacher.

"Su Li, Tang Mo."

The class teacher and another female teacher were standing to the side, smiling. Their eyes, fixed on Wu Sheng, gleamed with gossip.

"And this is...?"

Wu Sheng had a commanding presence and was the center of attention wherever he went.

Coupled with the SUV next to him, he was simply impossible to ignore.

Su Li glanced at Wu Sheng and smiled. "My friend."

The teacher let out a knowing "Oh..."

"Well, we should get going. Goodbye," Su Li said with a nod.

"Yes, yes, go on."

The class teacher waved to Little Tang Mo. "See you tomorrow, Tang Mo."

Little Tang Mo obediently waved back before Su Li lifted him into the car.

Wu Sheng smiled and nodded at the teacher in farewell.

Sitting in the car, Little Tang Mo watched the teachers’ smiles and gazes in the rearview mirror and pressed his lips together slightly.

His gaze finally landed on Wu Sheng, who was sitting beside him.

"Has Little Mo been missing Uncle Wu since you haven’t seen him in a while?" Su Li asked, noticing his gaze.

Wu Sheng and Little Tang Mo had always gotten along quite well.

Wu Sheng turned his head to glance at Little Tang Mo. "Did you miss me, Little Point?"

Little Tang Mo looked back at Su Li, just smiling and pursing his lips without answering.

"Aw, you’re getting shy," Su Li said, stroking Little Tang Mo’s head.

After Little Tang Mo turned back around, a flash of deep pain crossed Su Li’s eyes.

Wu Sheng happened to see it.

His hands, gripping the steering wheel, tightened slightly.

Little Tang Mo seemed completely normal, but he still couldn’t speak. And though Su Li did her best to hide it, her pain and fear were ever-present.

’This mother and son...’

They arrived at the lamb hot pot restaurant and had a lively, satisfying meal.

"Ah, it feels so good to break a sweat."

Su Li sighed in satisfaction after they finished eating. "I’m going to pay the bill. You two wait here."

After Su Li left, Little Tang Mo suddenly took out a notepad, wrote a line, tore the page out, and handed it to Wu Sheng.

Wu Sheng raised an eyebrow as he took it.

On the note was written: "Do you want to marry my mom?"

Wu Sheng’s eyebrows shot up. He looked at Little Tang Mo’s clear, cold eyes and nodded affirmatively.

Little Tang Mo stared straight into Wu Sheng’s eyes.

Wu Sheng calmly met his gaze.

Their gazes met mid-air in a silent confrontation.

The standoff lasted until Su Li’s voice rang out, "We can go now."

By the time they got back to her apartment building, the sky had already darkened.

Outside the residential complex gate stood a simple, honest-looking snowman, built by some unknown person. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

The snowman reminded Su Li of their earlier conversation. "Wu Sheng, didn’t you say just now that you were great at building snowmen?"

"Of course." Wu Sheng turned the steering wheel, and the car made a smooth turn before stopping steadily at the roadside.

"Come on, let’s get out. I’ll build a snowman for you two."

"Let’s go, Little Mo." Su Li smiled. "We ate so much tonight, this is a good chance to get some exercise."

On such a cold day, the streets started to empty as soon as dusk fell. By now, there was almost no one around.

The roadside was covered in thick snow, perfect for building a snowman.

"Let me tell you guys, I’ve been a master snowman builder since I was a kid!"

Wu Sheng spoke without pausing his work. "Base complete!"

He straightened up. "Next up, rolling the snowballs! I’ll roll the body, you two roll the head!"

"If you see any twigs or rocks, remember to pick them up. We’ll need them later."

After saying that, he got started.

They were supposed to be rolling snowballs, but at a time like this, how could they avoid a snowball fight?

They had a brief snowball fight before getting down to business, their laughter ringing out in the lively atmosphere.

Amidst the playful laughter, the large snowballs were rolled.

Wu Sheng hadn’t been bragging. He really was good at it; the snowballs he rolled were big and perfectly round.

"Put the head on top."

Wu Sheng clapped his hands. "Halfway done!"

The snowman was plump and round. Even as a half-finished product, it looked adorably simple and cute.

"I’ll go back and get a hat, a scarf, and some buttons to dress it up properly!" Su Li was looking at it with great affection, full of excitement.

"Little Mo, you and Uncle Wu can play here for a bit. I’ll be right back!"

Seeing Little Tang Mo nod, Su Li turned and walked back toward the complex.

"Come on, Little Point, let’s go gather some twigs and rocks."

Wu Sheng called to Little Tang Mo.

Little Tang Mo followed him silently, the smile he had for Su Li completely gone.

Wu Sheng brushed the snow off his head, and Little Tang Mo silently took half a step away from him.

Wu Sheng raised his eyebrows. "Did Uncle get ugly in your eyes? You don’t like Uncle anymore."

Little Tang Mo didn’t react.

Wu Sheng chuckled, took a piece of candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and offered it to Little Tang Mo’s lips.

Little Tang Mo looked at the candy, then silently turned his head away.

"If you don’t want it, I’ll eat it," Wu Sheng said with a raised eyebrow.

Little Tang Mo still didn’t react.

Wu Sheng ate the candy himself, picked up two twigs and a few rocks, and walked back to the snowman.

It wasn’t long before Su Li returned.

As soon as he saw Su Li, a smile returned to Little Tang Mo’s face.

Watching from the side, Wu Sheng was finally certain.

When facing Su Li, Little Tang Mo was still the same cheerful boy he used to be. But with outsiders, he was a different person.

The little boy with the cold, clear eyes—that was his true self now.

Unfortunately, Wu Sheng was one of those outsiders.

And for some unknown reason, Little Tang Mo was now hostile toward him.

’Thinking back to Little Tang Mo’s question, Wu Sheng guessed: Maybe he’s afraid I’ll steal Su Li away from him?’

’If that’s the case... this is going to be a real pain.’

Wu Sheng watched Su Li excitedly decorating the snowman and rubbed his nose.

’Hmm, got rid of Old Tang, and now a Little Tang shows up.’

’Compared to Old Tang, this Little Tang seems even trickier to handle.’

’The road to winning my wife... is full of thorns!’

As if sensing Wu Sheng’s strange mood, Little Tang Mo suddenly turned his head and shot him a look.

Wu Sheng grinned. ’Little Point, your infinitely charming and devastatingly handsome Uncle Wu is about to launch a new offensive!’

Remembering the nightmare Little Tang Mo had when they first met, Wu Sheng couldn’t help but bare his teeth in a grin:

’Becoming a demon and snatching Su Li away... just thinking about it is exhilarating!’
