Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Love Destroyer

Even though Yu Zhengqing was just an intern reporter, having a television station behind him gave him power that Su Li lacked.

When Su Li heard they had arrived, she found a moment to come out and repeat everything she had told him before.

Yu Zhengqing was worried about Su Li’s situation, but time was pressing. He only managed to say a few words to her before he had to get to work.

Yu Zhengqing was accompanied by an intern cameraman, also from the same university and full of passion.

After several hours of investigation and interviews, they finished up before nightfall.

Before rushing back, Yu Zhengqing found Su Li to say goodbye and give her a quick update on the situation.

The moment Su Li got back and walked in the door, she heard Miao Zhi muttering in the living room.

"...She’s only back for a day and she can’t stop herself from running to the compound gate to meet him. ’A senior from school,’ she says. I think it’s just like what the other wives said—there’s something shady going on with him!"

"Don’t say that, Miao Miao," Yang Xiangyun urged.

"I’m not just spouting nonsense! I saw it myself at the gate. Plenty of the other wives saw it too, and they were all shaking their heads!"

Miao Zhi scoffed. "When I think about how a person like her has caused you so much pain, Sister Yang, I just want to go over there and punch her..."

Her words trailed off as she saw Su Li standing in the doorway.

Su Li was expressionless, looking at them with that gaze Miao Zhi found absolutely unbearable.

Miao Zhi bristled at Su Li’s look. "What are you looking at? You did it, but no one’s allowed to talk about it, is that right?"

Su Li looked at the blockhead Miao Zhi, then at the even more clueless Yang Xiangyun next to her, and couldn’t be bothered to say a word.

Today, Miao Zhi and those military wives—who were so agitated by their own and their children’s illnesses that they couldn’t see straight—had come running to the Tang Family home several times, just to see if she was neglecting Little Tang Mo.

Yang Xiangyun was even worse. Except for when she was called away to give injections, she spent all her time standing guard in the living room.

Su Li paid them no mind; not that she could do anything about them.

Her only concern was Little Tang Mo. She ignored everything else—not that she had any right to meddle anyway.

Su Li’s silence only made Miao Zhi even more furious.

"Su Li, what do you mean by that? Are you just going to ignore me, acting like what I’m saying is a load of crap?"

She gritted her teeth. "Don’t you be so smug! I’m telling you, a loveless marriage like the one between you and Captain Tang will never be a happy one!"

Su Li and Grandma Cui, who was in the spare bedroom, exchanged an awkward, bewildered glance.

Miao Zhi didn’t notice. She grabbed Yang Xiangyun’s arm. "I’m not afraid to tell you the truth! Sister Yang and Captain Tang are the ones who are truly in love! You’re just a backwards relic from an arranged marriage who destroyed their love. You’re doomed to have a bad ending."

Su Li: "..."

’What in the world am I hearing?’

Yang Xiangyun hadn’t expected Miao Zhi to have such an outburst and say all that to Su Li.

She was so flustered that tears started to fall. "Miao Zhi, please stop." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"Sister Yang, you’ve put up with this long enough! If Su Li were a good wife and mother, then fine, there’d be nothing to say. But she’s not! Why shouldn’t you be able to chase your own love, your own happiness?"

Miao Zhi’s chest heaved as she stood up for Yang Xiangyun.

"There’s nothing wrong with love, and there’s nothing wrong with you! She’s the one who ruined everything for you two! Captain Tang risked his life to save you, and you fell in love, but because of her, you’re both suffering and heartbroken. I feel so indignant on your behalf!"

Miao Zhi grabbed Su Li’s hand. "Su Li, Sister Yang and Captain Tang are in love. You should step aside and let them be together."

Su Li took a deep breath, just barely managing to stop herself from looking at Miao Zhi like she was a lunatic.

Fearing Miao Zhi would say something even more outrageous, she quickly nodded. "Fine, I’ll step aside. Just please, stop talking."

’I really don’t have the patience for this moronic drivel.’

At her age, Grandma Cui was mortified. When she heard Su Li’s response, her expression changed slightly, and she quickly stepped out.

"Nurse Yang, Miao Zhi... our Momo’s fever has gone down and he’s sleeping. I’m afraid you’ll wake him. If you have something to say, could you please take it elsewhere."

Grandma Cui was directly telling them to leave.

’She knew what kind of person Tang Yuanxiao was.’

"Aunt Cui, you..." As dense as Miao Zhi was, even she could tell Aunt Cui was throwing her out. Her face flushed with humiliation and anger.

Grandma Cui waved her hand, not wanting to say more. She personally pushed the two young women out and shut the door.

"The more they talk, the more outrageous they get. Young people these days... I have no idea what goes through their minds."

Yang Xiangyun had taken such good care of Little Tang Mo before. Even though Miao Zhi had been spouting nonsense back at the clinic, Grandma Cui had assumed that an unmarried young woman like Yang Xiangyun wouldn’t actually act this way.

Things had been too chaotic before. Yang Xiangyun had insisted on staying to "help," and Grandma Cui hadn’t had the energy to stop her.

Who could have expected a scene like this?

Grandma Cui turned to look at Su Li’s impassive face and sighed to herself. "Su Li, dear, Tang Yuanxiao isn’t like that. Don’t let it get to you."

"That Miao Zhi has no filter, and Nurse Yang... Normally she seems so poised, elegant, and capable. By all accounts, she’s a good, competent young woman. How could she..."

Grandma Cui truly didn’t understand.

"Only the people involved know the real story. I don’t care about it, so please don’t you worry."

Seeing the worry on her face, Su Li offered a slight smile and tried to comfort her.

’She really had no interest in Yang Xiangyun and Tang Yuanxiao’s story. Once Little Tang Mo was fully recovered, once the situation here received the necessary attention, and once she was sure she hadn’t been infected, she would leave.’

After being thrown out, Miao Zhi stood at the door in disbelief.

"What was that all about? I can’t believe I was just kicked out!" She was absolutely livid, and Yang Xiangyun couldn’t calm her down.

"I’ve never been thrown out of anyone’s house in my life! I can’t let this go..." Just as Miao Zhi was about to pound on the door, she saw the supervisor and Doctor Yang rushing over.

Miao Zhi immediately fell silent and furtively followed them.

"Su Li, do you know the reporters who came to town today to investigate?"

Once inside the Tang Family home, the supervisor saw Su Li and got straight to the point.

Su Li nodded. "I do."

"I knew it was her! I knew she was the one who couldn’t wait to stir up trouble and broadcast it to the world! I just saw her talking to that reporter myself!"

Doctor Yang, his face ashen with fury, cut in. "If a doctor I know hadn’t told me, I’d still be in the dark! Su Li, are you just trying to cause chaos? How dare you call reporters when you don’t know the first thing about any of this?"

Doctor Yang had thought he’d already shut Su Li down. In fact, he’d been feeling quite pleased with himself; several more patients’ fevers had broken that afternoon, and everyone was praising his superb medical skills. But then, he was blindsided by the news that a reporter was in town, investigating and asking about something called "dengue fever."

He went out to find out what was going on, and when he returned, he happened to see Su Li speaking with Yu Zhengqing. He immediately suspected her.

Seething with anger, Doctor Yang told the supervisor what he had seen.

"Infectious diseases are the most frightening thing there is! One misstep and you have mass panic and chaos on your hands. I told everyone it wasn’t that, but this is just making trouble for no reason!"

Doctor Yang’s finger was practically jabbing at Su Li’s nose.
