Chapter 224: Exhaustion

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

Each heartbeat feels heavier than the last as I struggle to remain standing.

Drip. Drip.

Blood continues falling onto the shattered stone beneath me.

And the purple and black flames surrounding my body slowly begin fading until only small traces remain around my arms.

The black and purple scales also begin disappearing one after another, breaking apart slowly.

"...Tch."

The moment I try taking another step... Pain immediately shoots throughout my entire body.

My legs nearly give out beneath me.

I probably should’ve found a way to listen to her but it wasn’t something that seemed possible at the time. Now I’ve hit my absolute limit and I don’t think I’ll be able to finish the fight.

Yeah. I tried my best to reach out to you multiple times but I’m glad you can finally hear me again.

It is quite comforting to be able to hear your voice again. That transformation pushed me far beyond what my body could naturally handle.

I ignored everything that happened to me during the fight and now it is all catching up to me now.

It’ll be okay. We’ll get through this as well.

I slowly look towards my hands.

They won’t stop shaking.

Drip. Drip.

Blood continues running down my fingers and my healing isn’t keeping up anymore either.

The dragon side of my powers isn’t even able to try anymore which says a lot.

I slowly lift my head to notice King Albus still hasn’t moved very much either, so it is both of us that are out right now.

He’s breathing heavily while using one hand to help him stand back up, all while blood continues running down his face.

Both of us being at our limits means this fight is currently on hold until one of us can finish off the other.

"Hahahaha..."

King Albus lets out another weak laugh before coughing up blood onto the ground.

"Do you finally understand now Rokuro...?" He asks weakly.

His breathing is rough now.

"...Power always comes with a price," He says.

I don’t really care about what he has to say. I haven’t really cared since the beginning... Or maybe once I got curious but that was it.

All I care about now is finishing this fight before my body completely gives out.

The girls won’t be able to handle whatever enemy approaches us next, especially not if the King is still standing. I need to somehow stand back up.

"The girls will die. Get up," The familiar voice says with a serious tone.

I know. I know. Even though everything hurts like hell right now... I need to stand up no matter what it takes. This King needs to die before this other person shows up.

Finally I start to stand back up as the pain continues to shoot throughout my entire body. All the broken bones feel like they want to crumble.

But right then I suddenly hear footsteps approaching from behind me.

"Rokuro are you okay?!?!" Aria asks with concern in her voice.

"I’m fine... I just need to finish this fight," I respond weakly.

"Eliza I know this is a hard ask but can you heal him?" Velia asks while looking towards her.

I can tell Eliza is at her limits too after doing everything in her power to keep that bubble going.

"It might be possible to heal him a little bit but I don’t know if it’ll be enough to help or not," Eliza answers while moving closer.

A white light begins to emit from her hand as she places it on my chest. The pain from the broken bones start to fade away slightly as she continues.

After a few moments pass, she finally stops but I can tell she did all that she could. Most of the pain from the broken bones is gone but I can still tell that I’m messed up.

This will have to do for now since I don’t have a lot of time to waste. I don’t need King Albus recovering from his wounds as well or I really won’t be able to beat him.

"Thank you Eliza..." I manage to say before turning away from the girls.

Rokuro is this really going to be worth it at this point? You are still having a hard time standing up.

Don’t you understand that this is just one strong enemy... There’s a other one on the way here. I need to kill him before it becomes impossible.

What about information?! Do you not care about that anymore?

King Albus won’t give me anything. He’s already proven that he isn’t the type to do that in the first place.

He’s been quiet the whole time... Other than trying to antagonize me the entire damn fight. He doesn’t care about giving me answers and will die for the monarchs.

Because that is how he thinks.

"It seems you have enough strength to finish our fight after all," King Albus speaks up.

He doesn’t sound like he is struggling as hard but I can see it visibly. His entire body is still shaking as blood continues to run down his face.

Wasting my strength on responding to him would be dumb.

It seems he might’ve managed to heal a little bit of his wounds as well.

That just means we both have enough in us to finish up the fight. I won’t let him win no matter what Rika.

You talk all tough but yet you are barely able to stand. I’ll be surprised if you can dodge his attacks or swing your own damn fists.

The will of a human being is pretty strong I’ll have you know.

I slowly begin to make my way over to King Albus as the pain lingers throughout my body. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"That’s right. Finish the fight," The familiar voice says with a serious tone.

That’s already what I’m going to do. But I really must know who the hell you are, especially with how you’re talking to me. It doesn’t make any sense since Rika isn’t responding to you.

"Hahahaha. Don’t worry about it," The familiar voice says after laughing.
