Chapter 92: Chapter 92

"Our wedding?!" frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Yes, Astrid, our wedding," Adonis said and sat up."think of it like this, if we have the wedding now, that’s the only thing going on in peoples minds for a while. Which means, it’ll buy us sometime for Iris. And, we can find a way to free her."

Astrid rubbed her jaw thoughtfully. He was making a lot of sense. "But wouldn’t you sister figure out that that is what we plan to do?"

"I count on that fact. However, there’s nothing she can do about it. My marriage is one of the important events in the empire."

She flickered her eyes, put a hand over her mouth to stifle a yawn and crossed her arms.

Adonis smiled, "you must be tired." He climbed down from the bed and walked towards her. "Why don’t i walk you back to your room."

Astrid raised and eyebrow and scoffed. "You’re just going to leave your friend over there?"

"Well, he’d done what he needs to do," he turned back and smirked at Hector. "I no longer have any use for him."

Hector scoffed. "You better think long and hard about that when you’re on the verge of dying again." freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Adonis waved him away, turned back to Astrid and guided her out of the room.

"Why were you in there anyways? Is something wrong?" Astrid asked.

"It was nothing," he said.

They walked past the kitchen, the council hall and were on their way to the grand staircase.

"You looked as white as a sheet, if I’m being honest, like you’d seen a ghost."

"And i said nothing happened." He breathed. "Can we move on from this?"

Astrid shrugged and quietened. They slowly climbed up the stairs to the first floor, and the silence thickened between them.

They finally reached the door to Astrid’s room and Adonis stood, quiet.

"Is there a problem?" Astrid furrowed her browes and studied his face.

He shifted his shoulders and tried to focus on her eyes without shifting his gaze. "I need you to meet someone tomorrow," he said and looked around. Save for the soldiers who were guarding different doors silghtly far from them, there way no one desle on the floor.

"I need you to meet Theodore Diomedes tomorrow. I have urgent business for him," Adonis said. "You need to find him and give him a letter i will provide for you. As early as first light."

Astrid reeled backwards with her head titled to the side and pressed her lips in a thin line. "That early?"

"It’s important."

"Of course it is."

Astrid sized him up and then sighed. "If that is all..."

Adonis let his arms fall to his sides, and nodded his head. "Yes, yes. You can go in."

Astrid looked him over one more time before she head into the room and shut the door tight.

"Astrid, is that you?" Hera called, her voice drowsy with sleep..

"It’s me, sister. Go back to bed." Astrid removed her her clothes and shoes then removed the accessories on her head. She moaned soflty as she massaged her scalp. She cleaned herself up, wore a fresh pair of her night dress, then joined Hera in the bed.

"How was the meeting with the prince," Hera slurred.

Astrid chucked and looked over at her and her half open eyelids. "It was so and so. He confirmed what we alreay knew, he was the one who made the arrangements for the girls to be placed under lock and key in their rooms. But there’s a catch, i haveto marry him as soon as possible."

Hera eyes shot open and she sat uo straight. "What did you just say?"

Astrid sighed and sat up as well. "I know, i know what you’re thinking. But hear me out."

Hera face twisted into a frown but she remained quiet.

"If you ended up marrying him, we were all going to be doomed," Astrid began and tried to touch Hera on her lap, but Hera’s glare made her retracr her hand. Astrid cleard her throat and continued. "The kingdom becomes endangered and you’d have no more prospects."

Hera looked away and bit her lower lip as her chest rose and fell in a rapid rhythm.

"I couldn’t let you deal with all of that, i could let our kingdom suffer, we went through so much trying to save it."

"You didn’t have to agree to marry him, Astrid," tears began to fall from her eyes, " i caused all of this.. Now you’re in this mess because I’ve ben so stubborn."

Hera grabber her hand and peered into her eyes. "I take it out. You mean more to me that this baby ever will. Don’t marry him."

Astrid tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and cupped her face. "You don’t need to do any of that my love. You wanted to keep this baby. And i want to help you do that. Do not blame yourself for it."

Hera weeped uncontrollably and Astrid pinched the bridge of her nose and chuckled.

"Hera..."

Hera shook her head and covered her face in her hands. "I never wanted this to happen, never."

Astrid stroked her back in slow, circular motion. "It’s alright Hera. Please don’t cry. I’ll start crying as well if you do ans that wont be good for any of us."

Her shoulders trembled, her breath uneven as the crying slowly eased.

"Its alright," Astrid said. "If this little sacrifice will give you a happy life and a future, I’d be more than content."

"I wish I’d never met Niko." Hera sniffled and huffed. "He was a good for nothing idiot and i fell for it."

"Now, now, you don’t need to blame anyone.. You liked what you saw... and you mind probably rationalized everything else that he did. So... In a way, you let yourself fall for his tricks."

"Who’s side are you even on?!"

"Your side of course."

Hera rolled her eyes and laid back on the bed then Astrid followed.

"Everything’s going to be fine," Astrid muttered, "i promise."
