Chapter 224: A Trace Of Incompleteness
"Really? I literally had to drag him here and it was not an easy task." James complained on the other end of the line. Janice paused for a moment, then said.
"See if he has the key on him."
"I wouldn’t be calling you if he did."
Janice was speechless.
She didn’t have any other great ideas either.
"Then you’ll have to figure it out."
She hung up the phone.
"Hello..."
James was about to ask her to come back quickly when she hung up.
He was perplexed.
Not only was this woman not home at night, but she also didn’t seem bothered that her husband was drunk.
Someone must be blind. Chris had doted on her so much.
"Chris, your wife is not home. Where is the key?"
Chris was very drunk and unconscious. How could he answer?
James was frustrated.
He couldn’t just stay here with him.
"Forget it. Let me help you into the car first." He thought.
So James dragged him back to the car.
It was so embarrassing to carry a man on the streets so late at night. As soon as James put Chris into his car, his phone rang. It was Yvonne. James quickly answered, "Yvonne sweetheart." "Don’t call me that."
On the other end of the line, Yvonne rolled her eyes.
"Alright, Yvonne my darling."
He said shamelessly again.
She ignored him, knowing how much of a flirt he was and continued what she wanted to say, "I would like to give the private hospital you mentioned a try."
"Good, I’ll tell the director in advance."
James said.
When she heard this, Yvonne hurriedly stopped him.
"No, I need to get it on my own merit. I just called you to let you know. Don’t meddle in it."
James frowned.
"Ok, by the way, do you know where your best friend, Janice, is?"
"Why are you looking for her?"
Yvonne asked with caution.
James could tell from her tone that she was wary, and it surprised him.
"Why are you so nervous? I am not looking to bother her or anything. Chris is drunk and there is no one home."
"She’s not there. Don’t bother."
"Then where is she?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"I don’t know."
After that, Yvonne hung up.
Hearing the beep from the other side, James was even more frustrated. He glanced at Chris, who was lying in the back seat, shook his head helplessly, then drove him to a hotel.
Janice thought that she could just leave him to his devices and stop thinking about him.
But she tossed and turned all night and couldn’t fall asleep.
Whenever she closed her eyes, her mind was flooded by images of Chris, drunk.
She kept wondering if he had been able to enter the house.
Who was going to take care of him when he was so drunk?
She tossed and turned, still unable to fall asleep. She sat up and looked out of the window. There was a full moon.
The beautiful sky seemed incomplete.
She began to hear Nino’s cries came from the living room.
She went out to check on him but still couldn’t find out what was wrong with him.
She thought about it and remembered that she was so busy cleaning during the day that she forgot to buy dog food.
"I have to buy some dog food tomorrow."
She got up and took out some bread from the fridge.
"Eat some bread."
She put the bread into the dog bowl, turned around, went back to the bedroom to lie down.
She had to slowly let go of some things. Otherwise, her moving out would be useless.
With that in mind, she slowly closed her eyes.
...
At the same time in a hotel, James finally managed to drag Chris into a room. He was exhausted. Looking at Chris sleeping like a log, he felt too lazy to go home and so asked for a room next door.
The next day, Chris woke up with a terrible hangover and a splitting headache.
He checked his surroundings and discovered that he was in a hotel. He could not help but wonder how he got there.
"Why is he here?"
Before he could try to recall what had happened the previous night, the doorbell rang.
He frowned and got out of bed to open the door.
It was James and when he saw that Chris was not fully awake, he frowned.
"Hey, wake up."
Chris did not speak, but turned around and walked back into the room.
"Why am I in a hotel?"
James followed him.
"I sent you home, but you couldn’t tell me where you had kept your house key."
Chris paused for a moment. Just as he was about to say that there was someone at home, he remembered that Janice had moved out, so he stopped.
"What’s going on between you and your wife?" James was curious.
"Nothing."
Chris said with a frown.
James said, "Are you sure? Anyway, Chris, take it easy. Don’t do anything rash."
This irritated Chris. He glared at James, then walked into the bathroom and closed the door, isolating himself from James. He didn’t like nosey people.
Chris went home from the hotel. The moment he opened the door, a memory replayed in his mind.
"Darling, you’re back."
"It’s time for breakfast."
"What do you want to eat? I’ll cook it for you."
Scenes resurfaced one after the other in his mind. In the past, he hadn’t cared and had even complained about boring she was.
Now, faced with an empty house, he realized how heartwarming it was. All he wanted now was to see her, even if they wouldn’t speak.
The thought made him feel worthless.
She didn’t care. She had left him.
Yet he was still reminiscing about her. How useless!
For a second, he despised himself, then went upstairs.
Meanwhile, at the supermarket, Janice was pushing a shopping cart filled with all kinds of daily necessities.
She had checked online and found out that once she got bigger, it would be inconvenient to move around by herself, so she decided to buy more daily necessities before then
She was picking up stuff when her phone rang. She took it out and saw that it was Chris calling.
She stared at the number for a long time and did not answer.
It was until the ringtone stopped that she snapped back to the present.
What would she say if she answered the phone?
Rather than subjecting herself to the awkwardness, it was better not to pick it up.
She collected herself and continued shopping.
However, Chris was extremely anxious on the other end of the line.
He wanted to drink the ginger tea that she always made him so badly. He was hoping she would have a change of heart and come back.
To his surprise, she didn’t even answer the call.
He didn’t understand. He had told her that he would accept the child. Why did she still want to leave?
He started to hate himself again for being so worthless.
"Mr. Bateman, the meeting is about to start."
The secretary came in to inform him. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Chris did not look good.
"Please cancel it."
He was not in a good state of mind to handle any meetings.
He missed the ginger tea and he missed Janice as well. He closed for the day and headed to the club.
...
"Get me some ginger tea!"
He said to Daniel as soon as he arrived.
The club was not open during the day. The workers were not yet in and there was no
one to make him ginger tea...
Daniel looked frustrated.
"Did you drink again last night?"
"Yup."
Chris nodded.
When Daniel saw he was gloomy, he frowned.
"I don’t have any tea, but I do have medication to help with the hangover. Do you want it?"
Chris was in a bad mood. He stretched out his hand and said, "Give it to me." As long as it could cure his damned headache.
Daniel got up and went to the medicine box to find the pill. He gave it to him with a glass of water.
"There’s something up with you recently."
Chris took the medicine with water. It tasted bitter.
"She left just like that."
He put down the glass.
"Who?"
Daniel was puzzled.
Chris did not say a word.
Daniel thought for a bit, then realized who he was referring to.
"Did you guys have an argument?"
Chris thought to himself, "If only we had, then at least I would apologize and sweet talk her. She just up and left and didn’t even give me any chance at all."
She no longer picks up the calls.
Daniel said, "No matter what, don’t let her move out. Once you are separated for too long, it’s easy for the relationship to fade. Try to cajole her back."
After leaving the club, Chris kept thinking about what Daniel said.
"Are you kidding me? How am I supposed to pacify her?"
He had never had to sweet talk any woman before. Moreover, he felt that he had already made a huge concession regarding this matter.
What else could he do?
He was a man with dignity.
The more Chris thought about it, the more annoyed he became. He didn’t want to go to the office, so he went back to the Allsons.
It had been several days since he last visited his grandfather. During this time, he heard that his grandfather had woken up.
He parked the car in front then went in.
Nanny Daisy came out when she heard the door open.
"Chris is here."
Chris nodded and asked, "Where is Grandpa?"
"The old man went to the park to bask in the sun. Wanda is with him." she said
Hearing this, Chris nodded and headed to the park.
There were people exercising in the small park. Chris walked through the people and saw from a distance that his grandfather was sitting in a wheelchair, with his mother beside him. They were talking and laughing, and they looked very happy.
When Chris saw this, he couldn’t help but think of the time when Janice accompanied his grandfather instead. They were always talking and laughing.
She didn’t seem pretentious at all.
Was she sincere with his grandfather?
With him?
"Is it real?"
He felt sad, but he still walked over to where they were.
"Mom, Grandpa."
Wanda was chatting with her father. When she saw her son coming, she smiled and said, "I was just talking to your grandfather about you and here you are."
Wanda looked behind him as she spoke. "Where’s your wife? Why didn’t she come with you?"
Chris felt awkward. He did not know how to tell her they had just separated.
He lied. "She has something to do today."
"Really? You didn’t come the last time she came. Did you have a fight?"
Wanda seemed to have picked up on something.
Chris avoided her gaze. "Of course not."
He sat down to greet his grandfather.
Although Old Mr. Allson was awake, he could not speak yet. He could only let out an excited yelp.
"That’s good." Wanda said, "Your grandfather has just woken up but can’t talk. It’s a blessing. Not long after Janice left that day, your grandfather woke up."
