Chapter 220: He Thought He Had Lost His Mind
He was obsessed with this question. His drunken eyes were suddenly bright and wide open. If it weren’t for his slurred speech, she would have thought that he was sober.
"Because you are my husband," she said with a smile.
"Honey?"
"You mean cuckold..." He thought self-deprecatingly then suddenly pressed her under his body.
Her startled eyes stared at him in shock.
He looked half-drunk. His lips slowly approached hers, closer, closer...
Just as he was about to kiss her, he suddenly lost consciousness.
She was so relieved. Her heart was in her mouth just a moment ago. After all, he was a man, and he was drunk. Even if she had used all her strength to push him away, she probably wouldn’t have been able to stop him.
She laid him back down on the bed and tucked him in. There, all done.
The next morning, Chris woke with a bad headache. He rarely got drunk, and he hated the hangovers.
He rubbed his temples and slowly sat up. Just as he was about to get out of bed, he saw Janice lying beside the bed.
He was surprised.
"Did she sleep here all night?"
"You’re awake?"
She sensed that he was awake and raised her head as she spoke.
He looked at her sleepy face and said.
"Have you been sitting up all night?"
Janice rubbed her drowsy eyes and said.
"I fell asleep. Do you have a headache? I’ll make you some ginger tea."
As she spoke, she tried to stand but her legs suddenly felt weak and she sat back down.
"What’s wrong?"
"My legs are numb." She answered awkwardly.
"Let me rub them for you."
He got out of bed, held up her calf, and started rubbing it.
She was going to stop him but his large, warm palms covered hers.
His soft and gentle strength soon dispelled the numbness.
She stared at his soft jawline. For a moment, it was as if they had returned to the past.

Sensing her gaze on him, Chris paused and looked up. It was not until he met her eyes that he came to his senses. He put down her legs and stood up uneasily.
She did not notice his discomfort. She moved her legs and found they felt better. She stood up. "I’ll go down now."
She walked towards the door.
He stood there until she left. He could not help looking at his palm.
They were still warm from her body.
He remembered his internal struggle the previous day, yet he couldn’t bring himself to hate her.
Was he possessed?
He rubbed his face, feeling conflicted. Just as he was about to walk to the bathroom, he heard a noise from downstairs, as if something had fallen to the ground.
He run downstairs to find out what had happened.
He saw Janice rubbing her waist in pain. She had been careless and accidentally bumped into a corner of the table. She had nearly fallen and had even knocked over a wooden chair.
As she rubbed herself, she had a pained expression. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Chris saw this from the top of the stairs. He wanted to rush up to her but he stopped himself.
He stood there and watched as she picked up the chair and walked into the kitchen.
He paused for a moment before turning around and going upstairs.
...
Janice came out with the ginger tea. Chris was already downstairs. Seeing that he was dressed neatly as if he was going out, she quickly walked over.
"Are you going out? Drink some tea first."
He had wanted to ignore her and leave, but on second thought, he turned around and walked back to drink the ginger tea. When he had drained the cup, he handed her the cup and walked out the door.
She stood there holding the empty cup and watched him leave. She recalled how drunk he had been last night. She lowered her eyes and went to put the empty cup away.
Chris drove around aimlessly.
It was still early. He usually went to the company much later. After a while, he stopped at the side of the road.
He sat there and watched the sun as it rose. He was agitated. Lighting a cigarette, he took a deep drag.
However, what lingered in his mind was the scene of her frowning and crying out in pain.
He didn’t know why he was this agitated. He gave up on the cigarette, dumped it in the trash and drove away.
After Chris left, Janice went back to her room to take a nap. When she woke up, it was already ten in the morning. She went downstairs. Originally, she’d wanted to go to the dining room to get a glass of water, but found that the room had changed.
The marble table that was originally placed in the middle had been moved to a corner. The four corners of the table were also covered with corner protectors. It felt soft to the touch and there was no need to worry about bumping into them. The rearrangement had left an empty spot in the center of the room.
The wooden dining chairs had been replaced with soft sofas.
Not only that, the whole house had changed. Every place that was easy to bump into had protection over it, and even the stairs were covered with an eye-catching anti-slip carpet.
As she walked around, she saw more and more pleasant surprises.
Did he do all of this while she was asleep upstairs?
She was so touched, she started to tear up. Just as she was about to call him, the door opened. Chris walked in.
"Did you do all this?"
She put away her phone and walked up to him, looking at him joyfully.
He met her eyes, but didn’t know how to react.
"Don’t think too much into it. I just changed it because I didn’t like it." He walked past her with an uneasy look on his face. Janice, however, wasn’t disappointed by his statement.
Instead, she was even happier.
This proved that he was concerned about her. She couldn’t help the smile that spread on her face and followed him with light steps.
"You don’t have to work today?"
He ignored her and went into the bedroom to change into a suit jacket. Seeing that she had followed him in, he frowned.
"I need to change."
"Oh." She nodded. "What do you want for lunch? I’ll cook it and send it to you."
"Nothing."
He walked toward the door while buttoning up. "Then I’ll wait for you so we have dinner together." She followed him to the front door and said.
He was about to open the door and walk out when he heard her words. He paused, then continued walking.
She didn’t think anything was amiss. All she felt was warmth in her heart.
She was going to prepare a sumptuous dinner for him tonight.
As she thought about it, she went to the bedroom, quickly changed her clothes and headed out to buy groceries.
Chris arrived at the office with a black expression on his face.
...
Cecilia stood at the door of the elevator, sweating anxiously. When she finally saw Chris, who was late, her relief was palpable. She walked up to him.
"Mr. Bateman, you’re finally here. The person in charge of Redstone Technology has been waiting for more than an hour."
Chris didn’t say a word until he entered the office, even though she was quite flustered as she reminded him. "Go apologize to them. Please tell them that today’s negotiation is canceled. If they can’t accept it then we are done."
After that, he closed the door in Cecelia’s face. She stood there, stunned. This was a very important partnership.
Chris didn’t come out of the office the entire day. He didn’t eat lunch. He just sat there quietly, thinking about Janice.
What should he do with her?
Fulfill her wish? Give her what she wanted?
Expose her and mercilessly take revenge on the Taylors? There wasn’t much of a need now that they were almost bankrupt.
No matter what, he wasn’t going to suck it up.
What’s the best solution?
He was at a loss.
In his mind, he could see her joyous face repeatedly, no matter how hard he tried to tamp down on the memories. He saw her eyes twinkle as she told him of their past together.
It didn’t seem like she was faking her feelings.
Her sad figure sitting alone along the corridor when he wasn’t able to accept her.
How she kissed him and said she would help him recall his memories.
All these images kept lingering in his mind.
He had never thought that his heart would be stolen in such a short time.
He couldn’t imagine how his life would be without her.
Perhaps it would be dim and lifeless, like it was in the past.
He stood in front of the French windows. The more he thought about it, the more agitated he became.
Regardless, there was one thing that he concluded on. He didn’t want to enable her to fulfill her objective.
He finally came to a painful decision.
Half an hour later, he was in a high-end cafe.
Chris sat across Benjamin, who was late.
"What can I do for you?"
He sat down and gave Chris a warm look.
Half an hour ago, his secretary had informed him that Chris wanted to see him. He came to the appointment wondering what was going on.
Chris’ face was expressionless. He glanced at him, threw a document on the table, and said, "Take this contract and sign it."
With that, he turned his head, unwilling to look directly at Benjamin.
Ben was confused. He glanced at the document, picked it up, and opened it, his face a testament to his stupefaction. "What do you mean?"
"With this investment, your company will be able to make a comeback." His voice was dripping with disdain.
Ben sat there, not believing his ear or eyes. Chris had resorted to all means to destroy the Taylors. He had been quite ruthless about it. Now that the Taylors were finally ruined, he assumed the man would be happy, if he knew what the emotion was at all. Why was he helping them now? That was very uncharacteristic.
He frowned. "Why are you doing this?"
No astute businessman would make a bad deal and this was definitely not a winning deal.
"It’s not for free. I have conditions. After signing this, get lost and never let me see you again."
He spoke viciously.
Ben stared at Chris for a few seconds then furrowed his forehead. "You... remember now?"
Chris remained silent, with a stony expression on his face.
Ben didn’t really care though, and in a mocking tone inquired, "You are doing this for Janice, aren’t you?"
As soon as he said that, Chris’ demeanor turned dark, and he looked away impatiently.
