Chapter 195: Janice Gladwell Was Not Such A Person
At this moment, Christopher Bateman was standing there, watching the view.
Amelia Allson’s complaint came from behind. "I really don’t understand why you were transferred here when you were just fine in the hospital."
Amelia Allson was furious about the transfer of hospitals, but Nathan Bateman said it was for the good of their son, which made her unable to refute. Christopher did not speak a word. He just looked at the scenery outside the window, thinking about something.
Amelia grumbled a few times but did not bring it up again thereafter. Instead, she glanced at her son who was standing by the window and walked forward. "You’ve been standing there for a long time. Your wound has yet to fully heal. Go back to be bed and lie down."
Christopher nodded and went back to his room to lie down. Amelia covered him with a thin blanket but seemed to recall something. She stopped and asked, "Son, do you really not remember Janice?"
Christopher shook his head in a daze.
Amelia did not continue asking when she saw this. She just shook her head in resignation. It would be great if Janice was here. She would be able to take good care of Christopher, and Amelia would not have to run between the hospitals. However, Amelia was at a loss with the current situation.
She sighed again. When she walked out, she ran into Nathan Bateman and Sophie Valen along the corridor. Seeing the two of them, Amelia was full of anger. She did not want to talk to them and was about to brush past them.
However, Nathan stopped her. "Wanda, where are you going?"
Amelia snapped, "I am going to look for my daughter-in-law."
Nathan frowned. "Why are you looking for her?"
Amelia replied, "She’s my daughter-in-law and I’m her mother-in-law. Why can’t I look for her? My dad asked about her too."
What Amelia said was true. When Old Mr. Allson was in the hospital, he had asked her several times. Amelia made up the excuse that Janice was busy taking care of Christopher to gloss over the matter. Now that Christopher could get out of bed, she could no longer hide the truth.
When Nathan heard that his father-in- law wanted to see her, he said, "To tell you the truth, that woman is no longer worthy of being our daughter-in-law."
"What do you mean." Asked Amelia.
Nathan did not reply, but said to Sophie, "Sophie, show her the photos."
Sophie nodded, then took out a stack of photos from her bag and handed them to
Amelia.
However, Amelia stared at the photos but did not reach out to take them. "What are these?"
Nathan said, "Just take a look and you’ll know."
Amelia took the photos unwillingly when she heard this. She was stunned when she saw the content of the photos.
"What do you think? I told you that this woman is not sincere about Chris, didn’t I?" Amelia was taken aback.
"Do you think I’ll believe you just because you have these fake photos? Stop dreaming. Janice is not such a person."
Amelia was expressionless.
Hearing Amelia’s words, Nathan frowned and said, "Whether they were altered or not, you can find someone to check them. Don’t come to a conclusion too early."
Amelia was unsure after hearing Nathan’s words. She knew Nathan Bateman very well. At least, he would not use such dirty tricks. What’s more, it was easy to tell if pictures were altered by photoshop. With Nathan, he was not so stupid.
Thinking of this, she carefully looked through the photos again. To be honest, she did not know her daughter-in -law very well, and she had only seen her a few times ever since she returned to the country. It was impossible for her to completely trust her.
However, even if she had any suspicion, she did not want to reveal it in front of Nathan and Sophie. Just as Amelia was struggling to make up her mind.
"Mom, what are you talking about?"
...
Christopher Bateman’s voice suddenly came from above her head. Amelia Allson was stunned and subconsciously hid the photo behind her back as she spoke.
"Nothing, Chris... why did you come out?"
Amelia’s expression was unnatural. How could Christopher not be able to tell? He glanced behind her.
"Let me have a look."
He reached out his hand to Amelia. Amelia originally wanted to hide them, but seeing that she could no longer hide, she handed over the photos.
Christopher took the photos and looked through them one by one. All the pictures were of a woman and a man together. They would have intimate gestures from time to time. There were even pictures of them getting out of a car and heading back together to an apartment one night.
Christopher stared at the two people in the photos and felt that they looked a little familiar. He suddenly remembered that he had seen these two people in the hospital.
His eyes could not help staring at Janice Gladwell in the photo. Something came to him and he said to Amelia.
"Isn’t she..."
Before Amelia could speak, Nathan Bateman spoke first.
"Chris, the woman in the photo is indeed your wife, but she has betrayed you. She doesn’t deserve it."
"Betrayal?" Christopher frowned.
Nathan continued, "That’s right. The man in the photo is her ex- boyfriend. When you were injured, she thought that you wouldn’t make it, so she ran away with this man. She’s a slut. She’s not worth it." freeweɓnovel.cøm
Christopher was not listening Nathan. He just stared at the familiar face in the photo. Was she really like this?
Amelia saw that her son’s face was turning pale and worried that it might affect his recovery, she quickly said, "Chris, these are just photos. They can’t prove anything."
As soon as Amelia finished speaking, Nathan retorted. "Wanda, the facts are clear. Do you still want to protect her?"
"With just a few pictures? What’s the truth? Are you in such a hurry to cuckold your son?" She shot back.
"What do you mean I am anxious? I..."
"Alright, stop arguing and all of you should go back."
Christopher held on to the photos, turned around, then walked back to his room without any clear expression on his face. He closed the room door behind him.
The three of them, standing outside the door, looked at one other and suddenly stopped talking. Amelia looked at the tightly shut door and did not know what to say. She could only turn to leave. However, when she passed by Nathan, she snorted coldly.
"Dad, will Chris believe it?"
After Amelia left, Sophie Valen could not help asking Nathan.
Nathan himself was a little stunned, but he quickly got back his senses and said, "It doesn’t matter if he believes it or not. As long as he doesn’t think of that woman for a day, then that’s a step forward."
After saying that, Nathan turned around and left. Sophie did not follow him. She stood there and looked at the closed door, thinking about what Nathan had just said.
"As long as he doesn’t think of that woman for a day, that’s one step forwards." Indeed, as long as he did not think of Janice Gladwell, then she still had a chance.
Thinking of this, the corners of Sophie’s lips curled up. The phone suddenly rang and she picked it up. When she heard what the other party had said, her smile instantly vanished.
"I’ll be right there."
Back at the other hospital, after Yvonne White had left, Janice Gladwell just sat around with no intention of leaving. She sat there in a daze and thought for a long time.
She still could not think of a way to find Christopher. She knew that his sudden transfer was not a coincidence. The Batemans did it on purpose.
Otherwise, Old Mr. Allson would not have been transferred out of the hospital as well.
...
Even if she knew the Batemans had done it intentionally, there was nothing she could do. All she could do was sit and be worried.
Maybe she can go and look for Nathan Bateman?
Or maybe not.
He must be looking for her everywhere, waiting for her to walk right into his trap.
What should she do?
She sat there, stared at the crowd coming in and out of the hospital lobby, feeling lost. She had no clue what to do and her heart felt empty.
Just then, a weak figure staggered into her view and stopped in front of her. "Mommy, I want Mommy."
The cries of a child suddenly rang near her ears. She slowly raised her head and looked over. She saw a tear-stained, tender face of a little girl who was only about two or three years old. She probably lost her parents and was crying out of fear.
People came and went in a hurry. No one looked over even though she was sobbing.
Janice Gladwell glanced around before walking towards the little girl.
"Hello little girl, where’s your family?"
The little girl just continued crying and did not answer.
Janice had no experience in consoling children. She was at her wits. She looked around again but saw no one paying any attention or behaving peculiarly.
She squatted down, and whispered, "Hey, don’t worry. I’ll stay here and wait with you. Maybe your family is looking for you now and they might come here soon. Okay?"
The little girl understood what she said. Her crying gradually subsided, but she still sobbed softly. Janice fished out a tissue from her bag and wiped the little girl’s face. When she saw the little girl was calmer, she looked carefully at the little girl and she was stunned.
Why did she feel like she had seen this little girl somewhere before?
But this was the first time she had seen this little girl... ....
As she was wondering, a tall man ran over in a hurry.
"Anna, I’ve finally found you."
Just as his anxious voice sounded, the little girl was picked up by the man.
The little girl started crying again and the man tried to console her, feeling ashamed. He glanced at Janice and thanked her gratefully, "Thank you."
Everything was happening so quickly. When Janice recovered her senses, she slowly stood up and shook her head.
"It’s okay, but you have to watch the child. It’s very difficult to find her once she’s lost."
The man thanked her repeatedly then left in a hurry with the little girl in his arms.
As Janice watched the two of them leave, she kept running in her mind the feeling of déjàvu - she had met this little girl before. However, she could not place where and when she had met the little girl.
The incident however sparked a light for her. Even if one is lost, as long as their love ones do not give searching for them, they can be found. Just like the little girl a minute ago, as long as she did not run around but waited where she was, her family would find her sooner or later.
It was time for her to make a decision. So, she took out her phone and made a call. "Please pass a message to Nathan Bateman. I want to meet him."
After putting away the phone, she closed her eyes feeling determined. Even if she had to take the risk of being locked up, she had to see Christopher.
As she thought about it, she started to stride out of the hospital. As soon as she reached the hospital entrance and exit area, she saw a familiar figure. That person was none other than Sophie Valen.
Janice’s first reaction was: Why is she here?
It crossed her mind that she saw Sophie in Christopher’s ward. She was startled to see her again. Just as she was about to follow her, a group of people carrying stretchers popped out of nowhere. Instinctively, she took a step back, but when the group left, Sophie was nowhere to be seen.
Janice stood there, confused. Were her eyes playing tricks on her? While she was trying to figure out what was going on, her phone rang.
