Chapter 193: Your Wife, Janice Gladwell

His words stunned Janice Gladwell. Tears welled up in her eyes. When she heard him, she thought that she had misheard. She slowly stood up and looked at him with eyes filled with doubt.

After a long while, she slowly opened her mouth.

"Honey, what... did you say just now?"

Looking into her eyes, Christopher Bateman repeated, "Who the hell are you?" freewёbnoνel.com

As soon as he said that, Janice felt as if her world had collapsed. She staggered and nearly fell onto the ground. She immediately held onto the corner of the bed to steady herself. She looked at Christopher in disbelief.

He... actually asked who she was?

Could it be that he does not recognize me?

Thinking of this, she hurriedly asked, "Honey, don’t you recognize me?"

Christopher shook his head in a daze.

Janice felt her legs grow weak, and she was barely able to support herself with the hand on the edge of the bed.

He did not recognize her.

How could this be?

Her mind was suddenly in a mess and she panicked.

"Look carefully, I’m Janice Gladwell! I’m your wife, Janice!"

She was eager to wake him up, but there was nothing but unfamiliarity in his eyes.

Janice stared at Christopher and suddenly a bad premonition dawned on her.

Could it be that he had really forgotten about me?

It was impossible. She struggled, but the blankness on his face was like a basin of cold water splashed all over her, making her shudder.

He did not know her.

He did not recognize her.

Why was it like this?

She could not believe it.

Or, was it because she was so thin that he did not recognize her?

Yes, that must be it.

She searched the room anxiously, before finding a comb. She rushed into the

bathroom with the comb in her hand. She looked at herself in the mirror and frantically tidied herself up. She washed her face in paranoia as if her face was not clean enough. Her clothes were crumpled so she began to tidy them up too.

Again and again, she tried to fix herself before she walked out and stood in front of him when she felt that all was finally good.

"Look carefully. It’s me, Janice Gladwell. Your wife, Janice."

She panted heavily, and tears rolled down her almond face, dripping profusely. Her eyes were filled with panic and anxiety.

Christopher stared at the woman in front of him and felt shock in his heart. He did not remember this woman, but after seeing the expectation in her eyes, he suddenly could not bear to say it out loud.

He always thought that he was not a soft-hearted person, but faced with this woman, his heart softened. He did not understand where this inexplicable softness came from.

Just when he was at a loss...

"Who let you in?"

Abruptly, a female voice came from behind, accompanied by hurried footsteps.

Sophie Valen stopped in front of them. When she saw Janice Gladwell standing in front of Christopher’s bed, she was alarmed.

"Why are you here?"

However, when she saw Christopher’s expression, something stroked her. Her face became washed-out and she dragged Janice out of the room by her arm.

Only then did Janice react. She struggled to break free, but she could not muster any strength. Just like that, she was pulled out of the room.

As soon as they were in the corridor, Sophie let go of her.

"What are you doing here?"

Janice was flung off to the side and did not have the strength at all to stand. She had to rely on the wall to stabilize herself.

She stared at Sophie with red-rimmed eyes and asked, "What did you do to him? Why doesn’t he recognize me?"

...

Sophie Valen was worried that Christopher Bateman would remember her after seeing Janice Gladwell.

But after hearing Janice’s response, she was relieved. Even if she had not shown up, nothing had changed.

She could not help sneering. "What can I do to him? He just does not remember you."

That smile was like a thorn in Janice’s heart. "Nonsense. He won’t forget me." Janice found it hard to accept. Sophie remained fearless.

"Nonsense or not, did you not yourself see it earlier with your own eyes? Or could it be that you are merely deceiving yourself and others?"

No, Janice did not want to lie to herself. She could not deny the fact that Christopher did not recognize her.

Heavens! Who could tell her exactly what was going on?

Janice felt like her heart was about to shatter.

Sophie looked at Janice’s sad expression and her mood suddenly became very good.

She sneered and walked forward, saying.

"I urge you to accept reality. Since Chris has already forgotten about you, you should leave immediately."

Janice stood dumbly where she was, not saying a word.

Seeing this, Sophie continued, "Also, I’m warning you, don’t come back again. Otherwise, I’ll get someone to send you back. You must have escaped."

Sophie looked at her with mockery.

Janice did not speak and was still immersed in disbelief. When she heard Sophie’s threat, she glared at Sophie.

"Why should I listen to you? He is my husband. Even if he doesn’t remember me, he still is my husband."

She used all her strength to say this. However, these words seemed insignificant before Sophie, and she said sarcastically.

"So what if he is your husband? Don’t forget that the person who has been with him these few days was me. As for you, you are a stranger to him now."

Her words stabbed at Janice’s heart like a knife.

Had she really become a stranger in front of Christopher?

Did he really not remember her?

"No, that’s not possible. He just woke up. He will remember me."

As she said that, she was about to rush back into the room, but was stopped by the guards who had arrived.

"Let go of me!"

"Take her out!"

Sophie Valen ordered.

The guards held her arms and was about to throw her out.

At this time, Benjamin Taylor rushed up when he saw this scene.

"What are you doing?"

When Sophie saw Benjamin, she realized that Janice had come out with his help. She waved her hand at the guards and the two guards released Janice.

Benjamin quickly held her up.

"Are you alright?"

However, Janice did not say anything and only looked in the direction of Christopher’s room with eyes filled with resentment.

Benjamin followed her gaze and saw Sophie’s evil smile.

"Since you are here, you should immediately take her away. Otherwise, we are not going to be nice."

Sophie scoffed.

Benjamin ignored Sophie’s threat. He only felt sorry for Janice who lay slumped in his arms. Her body was trembling. It was the kind of trembling that would occur only when one was feeling ballistic with rage. He knew that she was on the verge of a mental breakdown and could not stay there any longer, so he could only drag her out by force.

The two of them gradually disappeared into the distance.

Only then did Sophie felt at ease. It was finally quiet. She turned around and was about to enter the room when her eyes met with another pair of eyes which had been staring at her for a while.

...

Sophie Valen immediately panicked. She did not know how long he had stood there and she did not know what he had heard.

She instantly felt guilty.

"Chris, when... when did you come out?"

Christopher Bateman’s chilly glance fell on her face. He was unusually cold, but he did not say anything. He turned around and walked back into the room.

Sophie wanted to follow him into the room, but the door was slammed in her face.

She stopped, turned around and whispered into the ear of one of the guards.

The guard nodded and went off.

A wisp of a cold smile flashed across Sophie’s face.

"Let go of me! Let go of me!"

Janice Gladwell struggled all the way. Only were they out of the hospital did Benjamin Taylor let go of her.

"Janice, don’t be like this. Calm down."

Benjamin coaxed.

How could Janice calm down? All she could think about was Christopher.

"I don’t want to calm down. I want to go back to the hospital."

As she spoke, she attempted to rush back into the hospital. Seeing this, Benjamin hurriedly stopped her.

"Even if you go back, he wouldn’t be able to recognize you. Why bother?" This caused Janice to stop in her tracks.

She stood there and turned back to look at Benjamin, her eyes full of surprise. "You knew he didn’t remember me, didn’t you?"

Benjamin did not deny it and nodded.

"Yes, I’ve known it for a while."

He said with a frown.

Janice closed her eyes. "Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Why?"

The pain in her heart was indescribable.

Benjamin looked at her.

"Can I change anything if I were to tell you earlier? Janice, you should recognize the

fact. He has forgotten you."

He walked up to her, wanting to comfort her, but she dodged him.

"No, he didn’t." Janice shook her head frantically. "It’s only temporary. Yes, it must have been because of his injury."

She muttered in a low voice, then something occurred to her, so she turned around and ran to the hospital.

Seeing this, Benjamin rushed to catch up and grabbed her arm.

"What are you planning to do?"

"I’m going to see his doctor. I’m going to ask the doctor to cure him."

"It’s so late. The doctor has already gotten off work."

"Then I’ll beg them to work. They have the best doctors in Tomaville here. There must be a way to cure him."

"Janice wake up. He has amnesia and there is no treatment. It’s useless for you to go to the doctor now."

Benjamin finally said.

"No, there must be a way."

"Janice!"

Benjamin could not stand it anymore and roared.

Janice was stunned as she looked at Benjamin. She knew that everything she did was futile, but what else can she do?

She did not want Christopher to forget her. She could not stand that strange look in his eyes.

"Then tell me, what should I do now?"

She finally could not bear the pain any longer and slipped onto the ground. She hugged her legs, buried her face in them, and sobbed in sorrow. Her thin figure was so helpless.

From the bottom of his heart, Benjamin felt his heart ache for her. He slowly walked over and knelt beside her. He wanted to reach out to hold her, but he held back.

He paused for a moment and said, "Janice, listen to me. We escaped out of the hospital. The most important thing now is to leave this place. We can discuss the options in detail later. Otherwise, if we are discovered by the Batemans, I’m afraid we’ll be locked up."

Hearing this, Janice slowly raised her head and looked at Benjamin with tearful eyes.
