Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Are You a Monster?

"I’ve already applied for a transfer to the Southern Military District."

Jiang Ye linked her arm through his, her gaze full of affection. "Brother, if you leave, what will I do?"

"Focus on your studies. If you really can’t get into a university, then just take the job the school assigns you."

Jiang Ye: "..."

Perhaps others didn’t know.

But as a woman who had been reborn, she knew perfectly well that the next two high school graduating classes would still have jobs assigned to them.

After that, the job assignments would stop. Furthermore, the productivity of state-owned factories would plummet, and they would start delaying wage payments.

You could keep working, if you wanted.

But you wouldn’t get paid.

The workers who could stick it out for a few years would be able to retire without a hitch, while those who couldn’t would have to resign and fend for themselves.

"I..."

Just as Jiang Ye was about to speak, Wen Yaozu’s voice rang out. "Hey, Sis! Those two are badmouthing you."

At his words, Jiang Chen and Jiang Ye, who were walking ahead, turned around in unison. Jiang Chen wore an impatient expression.

Jiang Ye’s gaze, however, was glued to Huo Jingyuan’s face. ’Such a handsome man, and he’ll even become a commander in the future.’

’And Wen Ci gets to be the commander’s wife. Isn’t that all because she stole my opportunity? If only I’d been reborn a little earlier.’

’I would never have revealed a single thing about the Wen Family.’

’Then the one marrying Huo Jingyuan would have been me.’

’What a shame!’

Jiang Ye’s gaze slowly shifted to Wen Ci’s face, and a wave of jealousy washed over her. With feigned concern, she asked, "I heard Brother Jingyuan was injured. Why isn’t he still in the hospital recovering?"

Wen Ci rolled her eyes.

’Brother Jingyuan~’ she thought. ’How very intimate.’

"You don’t need to concern yourself," Huo Jingyuan said, his tone cold.

Wen Ci might call him a hopelessly clueless man, but even he could recognize the adoration in Jiang Ye’s eyes.

"Brother Jingyuan, you’re so cold to me."

Even Wen Ci couldn’t stand that saccharine tone and frowned at Jiang Ye.

’How is she so brazen?’ Wen Ci thought. ’Trying to steal someone’s husband in public, right in front of a state-run restaurant. Interfering with a military marriage is a crime punishable by death.’

Jiang Chen tugged on her sleeve. "Don’t make a scene out here."

"How am I making a scene?"

Wen Ci’s expression was placid as she spoke, her voice calm and unhurried. "If you’re not eating, could you please not block the entrance?"

"Who says we’re not eating?"

Jiang Ye planted her hands on her hips. She and Jiang Chen had come to the state-run restaurant to cool off after an argument.

"If you hadn’t tattled to Dad, would my brother have gotten into a huge fight with our parents? Now he’s being transferred to a military district in another province. Do you have no shame?"

Wen Ci shrugged. "What does that have to do with me?"

"Exactly," Wen Yaozu chimed in. "He just said he applied to go to the Southern Military District himself, and now you’re blaming my sister."

His eyes darted about mischievously. "Troublemakers are always stirring up trouble. You don’t look for the real reason, you just blame, blame, blame.

Are you a monster or something? ’Cause all you do is blame."

"Monster" was a word from a cartoon he’d seen recently. To him, monsters were the big, evil villains.

Jiang Ye looked completely bewildered.

She frowned at the chubby boy in front of her. "You’re Wen Yaozu. What are you doing in Beijing?"

"And you are?"

Jiang Ye suddenly seemed to remember something and plastered a smile on her face. "Who am I? I’m your biological sister."

"I don’t know you."

His parents had told him about it after his sister got married, but as far as he was concerned, he would only ever have one real sister: Wen Ci.

As for anyone else, he didn’t know them.

"It doesn’t matter whether you recognize me or not. You just need to know that I am your biological sister."

Wen Yaozu clapped his hands over his ears, unwilling to listen to her nonsense. "Sister, Brother-in-law," he said, "I’m hungry. Let’s go eat now."

Huo Jingyuan smiled. "Okay, let’s go eat."
