Chapter 131: Chapter 131: I Did It on Purpose
Wen Ci would likely become the talk of the compound by tomorrow, which would also affect her father’s promotion. The minister’s position was already highly coveted.
There was no room for error when aiming for a higher position.
Jiang Chen said, "I didn’t mean anything by it. I have to get to work, so I’m leaving."
Wen Ci abruptly lifted her foot and kicked Jiang Chen hard. Since he was unwilling to apologize, she would get an "apology" from him in her own way. With a cold expression, she said, "I will tell Minister Jiang exactly what happened today."
She couldn’t be bothered to teach Jiang Chen a lesson herself.
It was better to let Mr. Jiang discipline him.
Now on guard after being kicked, Jiang Chen staggered a few steps but managed not to fall. He glared at Wen Ci. "Did you kick me on purpose?"
"I did it on purpose."
·
After they left the Beijing Military Region, Xu Jinghe watched Wen Ci walk away, a frown creasing his brow. He remembered Huo Jingyuan writing in a letter that he had married Minister Jiang’s daughter.
But the woman before him wasn’t named Jiang; her surname was Wen.
And why did she seem to be at odds with Jiang Chen?
Unable to contain his curiosity, Xu Jinghe asked, "Are you really Minister Jiang’s biological daughter?"
"Yes."
"So you took your mother’s surname?"
Wen Ci shook her head. "No."
’Well, since Xu Jinghe is Huo Jingyuan’s childhood friend, there’s no need to keep it from him.’ "It’s complicated, but also simple," she said.
Then, Wen Ci told him about her family background.
A moment later, after hearing the whole story, Xu Jinghe’s eyes were wide.
’From what I know, Minister Jiang’s wife runs a sizable business up north. But Wen Ci didn’t grow up in the Jiang Family, yet she’s so worldly...’
The two of them talked as they walked, eventually arriving at the hospital.
Huo Jingyuan was lying in bed waiting, his face contorted in pain. He had forced the doctors to remove his stitches yesterday afternoon. They had used an anesthetic.
But the slightest movement sent pain shooting through his entire body.
As soon as Wen Ci got downstairs, she ran into Huo Jingyuan’s attending physician, who looked like he had a lot to get off his chest. "That Mr. Huo is a real handful!"
"What’s wrong?" Wen Ci asked.
"Yesterday afternoon, he forced us to remove his stitches. We couldn’t stop him."
Wen Ci frowned. "Did they at least use an anesthetic?"
’The doctor said yesterday morning that the anesthetic wouldn’t be available for a few more days. I can’t imagine how painful it would be to get stitches removed raw like that.’
The doctor replied, "They did. He’s going to be in pain all day today."
Wen Ci breathed a sigh of relief.
’As long as Huo Jingyuan got anesthetic and it was safe to remove the stitches, that’s what matters.’ But a cold glint flashed in her eyes. ’That damned man is so disobedient!’
When they got upstairs, Wen Ci turned to Xu Jinghe with a gentle smile and said, "Could you wait outside for a moment? I need to have a word with him."
Xu Jinghe nodded.
Wen Ci pushed the door open, stepped inside, and immediately shut it behind her. The smile that had just filled her face vanished instantly, her expression darkening as she slowly walked to the hospital bed.
"Did Xiao Chuan not come?" Huo Jingyuan asked.
He hadn’t noticed her expression at all. His eyes were fixed on the door as he asked in confusion, "Honey, didn’t I ask you to bring Xiao Chuan to see me?"
Seeing how energetic Huo Jingyuan looked, Wen Ci forced a strained smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Huo Jingyuan, you’ve got some nerve, don’t you?"
"?"
Wen Ci reached out, took hold of the man’s ear, and gave it a light twist. With a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, she said, "Who gave you permission to get your stitches out without asking me?"
"I..."
Huo Jingyuan met Wen Ci’s glistening eyes and immediately deflated. "Didn’t the doctor say they could be removed? I was just thinking if I got them out sooner, I could go home sooner."
He was telling the truth.
Even though someone brought him three meals a day, he genuinely found the hospital environment uncomfortable. He figured that if he got his stitches removed sooner, he could go home sooner, and then Wen Ci wouldn’t have to wake up early to visit him.
