Chapter 25: The worth of a Trash

The first test was all about how many creatures you can befriend and maintain before they start fighting among each other or leave you altogether.

The techniques and knowledge required to pass this mission was not that high. Even if you are a new tamer, you would be able to pass this trial if you just waited patiently.

’All creatures are curious at the end of the day.’

Just being yourself and presenting what you have to them would attract at least some of them.

We had an hour to attract these creatures. But, I used a complicated technique to get all of the creatures here to acknowledge me.

’The process was not something simple, but I succeeded.’

And thanks to that, the people that needed to judge the test were put into a difficult situation.

"Theoretically, one can only get a maximum of 3000 points in the first test, something that has never been achieved in the last hundred years. But you overdid yourself and added the Uncommon rank creatures as well." Lady Markeet was talking to me right now, a worried expression present on her face.

"Look, Prism. Even if they give you the maximum points for the first test, it would not justify the level of achievement that you have shown."

The fact that someone was able to attract all those creatures, including the uncommon ones, with Bond Expression alone, firstly meant the bond they had with their tamed beasts was unparalleled.

Additionally, the fact that I could pull off a technique that would require three years of dedicated training meant the level of tests was simply too low to judge my abilities.

"There’s no need for you to give the second test anymore." Lady Markeet wasn’t informing me of this. She was telling me the second test was pointless now.

After the first demonstration of the skills, it was now obvious where I stood.

’To the people out there in the arena, the one that was merely ’trash’ was now anything but a useless nobody.’

On the contrary, I could hear the talks of how some were calling me a genius while some denied their first impression of me altogether.

’Some of them were even saying they had always believed in me.’

Those people were the real trash. True hypocrites that I didn’t even want to talk to.

But the lady before me was different.

"I apologise for what I did back then. I was... It was just too surprising." She accepted her mistake.

She couldn’t understand how someone who didn’t even have a tamed beast until some time ago would grow so much in such a short time.

’She knew that I got Felix from the sixth cradle, but the level of my skills were still too high for her to accept that I was the same person they knew.’

Her reaction back there was obvious and understandable for a mother. She was being protective of Alex.

Still, what is done is done.

"I’ll accept the apology, m’Lady. However, I am not done with this test." Even if I don’t have to give the second test and prove my knowledge of the beasts with a debate or show off my [Beast Skills] to the people, I needed to give the third test that combined the knowledge and practice.

"I will give the Praxis Test." Looking her in the eye, I declared to her with conviction.

Going beyond the skills that the beasts have, the knowledge of the individual, and the innate abilities that one possesses, Praxis is the true display of individual skills.

The scores of the Praxis are added to the final score separately so even if one is bad at using the beast skills, or isn’t very smart, they can achieve the passing score of 100 points with Praxis.

"I understand what you mean... however, are you certain you want to showcase your Mystique powers?

No good will come out of people knowing you command a mystique beast on top of your skills."

Felix was too young to use her powers to her limits and Lady Markeet understood that much.

However in a couple years that will not be the case.

"Of all the mystique tamers I’ve seen, only one has had the kind of synergy you and your little kitten does."

She must be talking about the headmaster of [Stanox], the most prestigious learning institution of this world and one of the people I owe to the most from my previous life.

’But I’m nowhere as good as that Pretty Lady.’

We will see each other much sooner this time. I wonder how she will react when we meet in this life.

"You don’t have to be so worried, Ma’am." I understood her worries so I gave her a smile and pulled out an essence card from my pocket. "I already got some help from my dear sister."

The essence card belonged to Flora. In the entire Sungrade, there was only her that possessed a beast as unique as this one.

"Oh?" Even Lady Markeet was stunned when she saw this essence card. "Flora gave him to you?"

The essence card from someone else was not only a show of respect but also the acknowledgement of one’s abilities.

That means Flora already knew about what I can do. There’s no way she would give this guy to just anyone in the first place.

"If it’s you, I think it will be alright." This beast was known for its violent tendencies. Few tamers in the world have managed to tame their kind.

And fewer could command them.

"Yes. So, please do not worry about me anymore and go back to your post." She was the commander here.

It wasn’t a good thing that she came here directly to talk to me at a time like this.

This closed off room inside the colosseum was too stuffy anyways.

"Alright, fine."

She took a deep breath as she stood up and looked at me, straight in the eyes. Reflected in those powerful amber eyes, this time, was sorrow and guilt.

"Prism... can you–." She called out my name and was going to say something, but she stopped and shook her head with a bitter smile on her face.

"No, that’s it. I should go now."

The words did not leave her heart, but her eyes had already spoken.

"It is too late, m’Lady."

Nothing would change even if we start over in this house.

I would not get my mother back, and my childhood would remain the same.

What has happened in my past life would not get erased either.

At the end of the day, I have already lived through this hell already. But, I will not do the same anymore.

’Staying in this house for too long will only bring us more problems.’

Anyways, moving on, the second test will conclude soon.

’I wonder if Flora has finished her recon mission though.’

Asking her to go into the demon forest was a little too much, I know, but then again, who could do this better than her?

It would have been fine if it were a few dozen monsters or even a hundred or so.

What occurred on this day in my past life was a tragedy that opened the doors for Sungrade’s demise.

Even with all the powerful people present, hundreds of people died.

It happened too suddenly.

There was no indication of them at first but then... blood rivers were flowing in the city.

People were mourning the death of their able children.

And, Lexie...

’She stayed behind so that I could run away from that hell.’

It was a tragedy.

’One that must not be repeated again.’
