Chapter 20: Training?
{ "She’s an adorable one." }
"Isn’t she?"
Alex was flushed red when she saw us.
Felix couldn’t help her smile at the scene and praised the child. But her expression wasn’t the only thing that made the young girl attractive in her eyes.
{ "She has a strange energy around her." }
"She’s a special one, after all."
Smiling at my familiar kitten, I took a step towards the girl who was about to step back and vanish off into the bushes.
"What are you doing here, little one? Are you playing hide and seek with the mothers again?" While I didn’t have many fond memories with this young lady from my past life, she was one of the few tragic cases that the world messed up with.
It was obvious to us in the family from her early years that she was different from all of us. She could talk with the beings that primarily existed in a different realm altogether.
’Spirits were unique entities that weren’t like any other magical beasts. They were higher intelligence elemental manifestations of condensed souls.’
When we say someone was blessed by the spirits, we aren’t saying they were talented in spirit arts.
They quite literally possessed an affinity with the [Spirit Realm] unlike any living individual of this world.
"U-umm... ah..." Alex did not know what to do so she was walking back with a confused look on her face.
When I brought up our mothers, the look on her face was everything I needed as the answer as well.
’She’s as transparent as I remember...’
This little girl.
If she hadn’t passed away in the incident from a few years from now, I have no doubt she would have surpassed our father even before reaching her mid-twenties.
This girl had far greater raw talent than any of us siblings... sadly, she didn’t have anyone to guide her in my past life. At least, no one that understands the level of talent that she possesses.
"I guess I am right. So you indeed are hiding away from them." Instead of taking another step towards her, I sat back down and smiled at her. "In that case, you don’t have to be worried about me."
We didn’t get the chance to make any memories in my past life but leaving her alone would be too foolish on my part in this life.
She needed someone who understood her powers better than she did. So, she needed us.
"Huh?" She was suspicious when she heard me say that.
Everyone in the house knew what a troublemaker she was so they would tall on her to the mothers instantly to get on their good side.
But we didn’t have anyone we had to impress in this family anyways.
"Come here, join me. We were in the middle of training anyway." The invitation was genuine and honest.
She’d benefit from learning this little trick as well.
"..."
The young girl needed a few minutes to process what was happening right now.
"Training?"
She understood what training meant very well.
As the children of this household, we were trained in various aspects from a young age.
Since she was nine already, she must have started her etiquette and dance classes already.
Since she was so talented, the mothers must have started teaching her the basics of spirit arts personally.
But, meditation wasn’t training in her eyes.
"You were training?"
When you train, you either swing your swords, study complex maths for magic, or fight against other beast tamers. That’s what she must know right now.
She should have seen the other people training for various things in this house. And since she had a habit of sneaking away from her room, she should have been to the training facilities before too.
"Yes, we were training." I extended my hand towards Felix and the kitten walked into my arms.
At the same time, we expressed our ’bond’ in a way that she could feel it: a technique people don’t learn until they are a Level-3 tamer.
"Huh? Huh...?"
She must have felt it, the connection that we had and the harmony of emotions that we shared.
"This is called [Expression]. To learn it, you have to express yourself to your friends and partners." There was a smile on my face as I was explaining this to her.
My method of expressing the bond was a little different from how the other tamers use it right now.
Instead of exploding the frequency of the connection that I share with my partners, I intentionally choose a certain ’expression’ of the bond.
’This time, what I expressed to Alex was the ’curiosity’ element of our bond.’
The intentional expression evoked her own curiosity.
Through this method of appealing to the mind and body of others, one can express various emotions that are otherwise difficult to convey through words or actions.
In battle, this technique can be a lethal weapon that can force the opponents into making countless kinds of mistakes.
"You feel it, right?" Alex wasn’t the only one that was the target of my expression this time. The birds that were around us until a moment ago were targeted as well.
"Chirp~. Chirp~."
"Chirp~."
And since they were the targets, they couldn’t help their curiosity of us and gathered around us once again, filling the space with their sweet chirps.
"...wow."
The eyes of the young girl were instantly lit with curiosity and passion.
The birds were appealing, but more than that, the way I was able to gather them around me was something that stuck to her even more.
"Come. They won’t vanish off this time."
She wanted to come closer to them but she hesitated. Still, the invitation took away a portion of her hesitation as she took a step towards the pretty creatures.
"They won’t run away?" She asked hesitantly.
"No they won’t." And I answered to her without hesitation.
I could keep these little elemental birds stay even without using the bond expression. After all, I knew more about them than what the experts of the family have found out until now.
"Ummm..." Alex came closer and hesitatingly approached the red bird that sat on my finger.
"Chirp~?"
The red-washed creature was shy, but it did not feel any threats from the young girl anymore.
"Chirp~!"
The bird didn’t vanish this time, but it also did not show any particular interest in her.
Even though Alex tried to touch them with her eyes sparkling with excitement, the creature did not show any interest in her.
They were, after all, not curious about this little prodigy just yet.
"Ah..."
Alex was first happy that she didn’t scare the birdies, but their cold shoulder broke her heart a little.
"Do you want to be friends with them, little Alexandria?" The question was obvious from my side.
However, it ignited something deep inside her heart.
"Yes! I want to be friends! Yes!" She was so excited this time that she ended up shouting loudly.
"Meow~."
And as a result, the birds got scared again and vanished once again, returning to their houses in the trees.
"Huh..." She was sad again.
"No biggies. We can just call them back." But there was nothing to be sad about.
They were all here anyway. She just needed to change her approach a little.
"So then, young Miss. Why don’t you tell me what you’re doing here first? I’ll teach you how to get closer to them after that, ok?"
The offer was hard to reject, especially for a girl that might have never been taught about the actual beasts of the world around her.
"Okie~!"
As talented as she was with the spirits, she needed to learn a lot of basic things to hone her talents.
Since she was so talented, she would also have to work much harder if she wanted to refine all these talents she had.
A genius like her would get bored easily if they aren’t constantly stimulated with exciting things. But the overprotective mothers around her will never teach her anything that may be dangerous for a young kid like her.
"Ok then, come let’s sit."
She was young and curious.
The only reason she didn’t listen to them much of the time and caused trouble was because she had nothing else to anchor her curiosity with.
If anything, the mothers should have started teaching her new things at an early age.
’But this is fine as well.’
Even though she was starting at this age, we can just adjust the difficulties a little.
She had quite a lot of time before anything serious happened to her anyways.
’My time here may be short but we can still have some fun while we’re here.’
She can learn new things in secret with me.
’Though... I’m pretty sure it won’t ever be a secret from the great Ladies of Sungrade.’
