Chapter 17: Preparations for the Inchident
-Oooooooooooooooong!
Right after finishing her conversation with her brother and saying her goodbyes, Flora found herself opening her eyes right before the same door where she was supposed to have entered from.
She knew she didn’t really enter her brother’s room, but the fact that she had been standing out here all this time surprised her even more.
Furthermore, the jar of blue honey that she had obtained from her brother, along with a small jar of what seemed like tealeaves, as well as a small note with words ’open in private’ inscribed on the envelope were placed right before her.
"He has his fangs as well, it seems." A smile bloomed on her face and she looked back.
The guide that had come with her here was nowhere to be seen. Instead, Lexie was standing to the side, waiting to escort her out.
"Huh. What kind of powers does he even have?" Flora was still figuring out what kind of skill Prism had used just now.
It was neither some kind of mental illusion, nor a magic spell that transported her to any actual place.
What she had experienced just now was as real as it could be, but it wasn’t actually something that took place in the reality that she understood.
"Even I do not understand it, m’lady. It’s something I’ve never seen before." Lexie spoke in an exhausted tone, shaking her head at her misery.
The two ladies looked at each other, a helpless smile present on both of their faces.
"Shall we?" Flora shook her head and started walking back.
Her cute little brother had just assigned her a strange, yet very critical task.
"Yes, I’ll be right behind you." The maid guided the young lady of the house, only a year younger than her, outside. The annex building wasn’t a place that suited someone of her status.
To the people that had spent their entire lives in the castle of the Sungrade, the places that weren’t even a few stories tall may seem claustrophobic.
While Lexie did not like the fact that her own young master had spent most of his life in this place, she could not blame it on someone who was trying to help him right now.
"Lexie, right?" As she was about to leave, Flora looked at the unique deep eyes of the maid. She could clearly feel a strange energy from her, a power that was much closer to her own.
But, it was fundamentally different. Harmonizing, but different.
"I know you do not like us. We’ve done nothing for him and he is everything for you, I know that already." Flora knew how she had taken care of her youngest brother all this time.
After his mother was gone, perhaps she was the only one that had been by his side until now.
"I know asking for forgiveness would be too much right now... but, I’d like to know him better. I was hoping you could help me with that."
As the legitimate heir of the house, if Flora wanted, she could have ordered Lexie to do anything she wanted. But she was bowing to a maid right now, asking for something she knew she didn’t deserve.
"Would you like to join me for some tea when you have time?" Flora was as polite as one could when she presented that request.
However, the bitter smile on Lexie was enough to answer her request.
"I see."
Flora bid her farewell bitterly, leaving the people that were secretly trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Haaa." Thanks to Lexie’s powers, they didn’t get anything noteworthy, and it disappointed them.
It did not matter to the people that were in the middle of their own preparations though. Prism was done dealing with the assassins and Lexie was back to his room.
"You’ll have to do something now, Kiren." The guide from the 6th cradle was standing before Prism, watching him play with his kitten.
The white little bird was sleeping on the bed behind him, while the brushbug that should have gone back with Flora was still playing around in his room.
Since Lexie was back as well, he was wondering what this person before him wanted from him.
He knew it would not be something simple. He was also the son of the patriarch at the end of the day and insignificant servants like them were merely chess pieces they could use and throw away at any moment.
"In a few days, there will be some trouble at the area where Proof of Worth takes place. You have to do as I say."
Prism got Flora’s help for the things that will happen inside the forest, but the city itself will not have anyone to protect. However, they couldn’t just focus on that arena when the lives of so many people were at stake right now.
"Do you understand now?"
"Um..." The explanation he gave wasn’t too helpful.
But he couldn’t refuse the dark red eyes glaring at him at that moment.
"Yes." He just accepted whatever Sam said and nodded his head.
Kiren wouldn’t know it right now but he was going to help him with something very important.
If things go well, it will only do him good.
"You can take your leave now. And while you’re going back, why don’t you stop at the 5th cradle and try it once again."
"Hmm?"
Kiren didn’t understand what Prism was saying at first, but he simply handed him a piece of paper that had some interesting things written on them.
"Y-young master...?"
These things weren’t as simple as one may expect. The paper contained some really serious points.
"Follow me, Kiren. You will not understand your worth right now, but I can see it." With a meaningful smile, he gave the guide a look of satisfaction.
Few people will be as trustworthy and useful as him. Prism didn’t want to waste someone as good as him this time around.
"But... But this is still-."
"It is nothing to me." What he gave him was merely a fraction of guidance that he would provide to the ones under him.
Kiren will have better chances for growth if he follows him. And, the guide who understood the worth of the information written on the piece of paper recognised that.
"Very well."
He took his leave with a bow full of respect as well, and left the room with the bloombug. They couldn’t just leave a dangerous creature high on psychoactive honey running around the place.
"Haaaa..." The mental toll of using the mystique skill was not something to look down upon. He could barely stand right now. His body had already lost most of the stamina.
Pushing his physical limits was nothing new to him. The reason he had survived in a world full of beast tamers as a normal person for so long in the past was all thanks to his mental and physical fortitude.
But then again, he had done all that he needed to for the day.
"I’ll just take a small nap."
He went to his bed, and laid down beside his little Nix, caressing the little bird’s feathers as he closed his eyes.
"Meow~."
The kitten was tired as well, so she came and laid down beside them as the three fell into their own dreamlands.
They seemed happy... and at peace.
So, the maid nodded at the sleeping beauties with a smile as well, and then went back to her own work.
"He’ll be running around again soon."
She knew this child was not going to stop now that he had revealed his powers.
Things would only get difficult for them from now on.
"I’ll have to do better as well."
Until now, there had been no need to use any of her powers. She was the maid of this house. That was all his mother had wanted from her.
But, the lady she had served all her life was gone. And the child she had left behind was stepping into a world full of monsters.
As the caretaker, she had her responsibilities.
As his guardian, she had her own battles to fight from now.
