Chapter 2863 - Speaking Divine Writ
A long time ago, Su Yi discovered that the Book of Destiny had opened by a crack. Now, when a faint wisp of power emanated from the opening, Su Yi instantly sensed a mysterious power full of profundities.
Yet another cacophony of voices arose in his sea of consciousness, but he couldn’t for the life of him tell what they were actually saying.
Given the circumstances, the cacophony actually made him frown. He felt inwardly repulsed, and he instinctively chastised them with the voice of his heart. “Silence!”
Although Su Yi didn’t know it, while those in the outside world couldn’t sense anything, a supreme power, like the sound of Heaven’s Will, resounded throughout the Book of Destiny.
The cacophony of voices instantly faded away. All was utterly silent.
Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising. That actually worked?
Something occurred to him. He tried using the secret power of his heart to sense the mysterious aura emanating from the crack. Unbelievable secrets silently flooded his heart.
“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, old toad!” River King Whistling Moon laughed, shaking the surrounding waters. The hundred-plus beasts under his command swam around him, using various divine abilities to seal off Su Yi and the Star Toad’s escape route.
“What are you doing, Ol’ Ox?” The Star Toad said coldly, “I’m not your grandfather. I don’t need you to wait around for me.”
River King Whistling Moon grinned. “Drop the fucking act. If you know what’s good for you, come quietly. Refuse, and I’ll kill you, skin you, and refine your true name!”
Battles between River Kings were utterly bloody and brutal. The loser was typically cruelly tortured and stripped of their true name. Even their bodies were devoured by the victor’s followers. freewebnøvel.com
A River King’s true name was like a cultivator’s Eternal Source. Others could refine it to boost their strength.
“Did River Emperor Winged Dragon send you?” the Star Toad asked gravely.
“Guess,” said River King Whistling Moon.
Boom!
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, River King Whistling Moon attacked, his massive wings closing like scissors on the Star Toad.
The current churned, and firelight swept forth. This attack brought with it stinging, blood-red, electric light, like ten-thousand-foot blood-red sabers, tyrannical beyond measure.
The Star Toad snorted coldly, his body glowing with silvery moonlight. It condensed into a radiant crescent moon and blocked the onslaught.
The nearby thirty thousand feet of water blasted apart.
The Star Toad staggered, a new, startling gash tearing open on his back. Blood gushed from the wound, and when the hundred-plus river denizens watching from afar smelled it, their eyes filled with greed.
That was the blood of a River King. To them, it was wondrous medicine!
River King Whistling Moon’s attack had hit the mark, but he didn’t let up. He blurred through the air like a mountain in motion and slammed ruthlessly into the Star Toad.
He was built like a Kui Ox, and the impact was interwoven with blood-red lightning. It manifested terrifying, destructive phenomena.
The Star Toad couldn’t avoid it, so he blocked with all his might, his millstone-sized body glowing with intense radiance. It was as if he’d transformed into a true radiant moon.
But the radiant moon shattered in an instant. The Star Toad’s flesh was reduced to pulp, and he cried out in agony.
The Star Toad was a River King who reigned over three thousand miles of water, but River King Whistling Moon was so strong that he couldn’t even fight back!
The swarm in the distance slavered at the moon, licking their lips eagerly. All of them were waiting to rip the toad to shreds.
The Star Toad transmitted, “Your Excellency, this humble one is inept. I couldn’t bring you all the way to the Spirit Treasure Celestial City. Still, even if it costs me my life, I’ll help you find a path to safety!”
The toad was already badly injured and covered with blood, but his gaze was full of staunch determination.
“Ol’ Toad, it’s not that I look down on you, but that you aren’t strong enough to make me think better of you!” laughed River King Whistling Moon. “I’ll give you one last chance. Give up the struggle, or else...”
Suddenly, an inscrutable sound rang out, like the calling of the ages. It brought with it a primeval, mysterious presence, and it interrupted River King Whistling Moon’s threats.
Everyone was baffled. No one knew what to make of this.
But when River King Whistling Moon heard it, his massive frame quivered, and his hideous smile froze in place. He whipped around, then gazed into the distance at the figure he’d previously overlooked: a young man in blue. He looked human, yet he had the aura of a denizen of the river.
His gaze was distant and profound, and he was looking directly at River King Whistling Moon.
“You...” River King Whistling Moon opened his mouth as if to say something, only for the man in blue to bellow.
It was still that low, inscrutable sound, like the rumbling and booming of an ancient world, the first voice of Heaven’s Will amidst the first parting of the Primordial Chaos.
The crowd then watched in horror as River King Whistling Moon let out an agonized, desperate shriek. His whole body convulsed as his flesh sloughed off, chunk by chunk. His massive wings split, then collapsed into puddles of blood.
River King Whistling Moon roared, “No! No! How could you possibly know my true name? Just who are...”
His voice came to an abrupt halt as his body exploded into pieces, staining the current red.
The only part of him that remained intact was a single snow-white tooth. It flashed with stinging electric light and surged with life force. It was full of surging, dense source energy. It was indistinct, but two natural, strange, and contorted markings of the Grand Dao appeared on its surface.
The Star Toad recognized them at a glance. That was River King Whistling Moon’s true name, Tu Wei!
True names were highly mystical. Only River Kings could read them. They were naturally formed, emblazoned with a River King’s cultivation base and connected directly to their life force.
All River Kings did their utmost to hide their true names to prevent their enemies from discovering them, for the physical location of their true name was their greatest weakness!
The distant army of river denizens was scared out of their wits. Their eyes widened in disbelief.
The Star Toad flashed through the air and attacked. Countless arcs of silver moonlight shot forth, like a dense rain of frosty blades sweeping through the enemies’ ranks.
Desperate screams shook the entire stretch of river, and fresh blood spread like ink.
The Star Toad was a River King. Even injured, he could cut through rank-and-file river denizens yet to acquire true names as easily as a chef chopped vegetables. Within just a few breaths of time, all one hundred plus river denizens had been slaughtered.
Su Yi, meanwhile, put away the snow-white tooth River King Whistling Moon had left behind.
He took out the Book of Destiny, and an inscrutable energy fluctuation coursed over it, washing away the surging power of the Grand Dao within the tooth.
In the end, the name “Tu Wei” vanished from the enamel’s surface, leaving it dull and lustrous. Su Yi silently closed his hand, crushing the hollowed-out tooth.
At the same time, Su Yi clearly sensed a new, surging power of the Grand Dao on the Book of Destiny, like a brand in the shape of the characters “Tu Wei.”
The image of River King Whistling Moon appeared over the brand, flickering in and out of view. He was like a sample stored in the book.
At the same time, the tome shifted, the faint crack broadening. Su Yi could just barely manage to unfurl a corner.
When Su Yi gazed at the first section of the tome, his pupils constricted. It was just a tiny section of parchment, but when he gazed into it, he felt as if he were gazing into a vast, unfathomable ruin.
It was completely swathed in gray mists. There was no telling how big it was, or how deep.
Su Yi exerted his will, using the Light of the Heart to sense further.
Boom!
It was like the first parting of primordial chaos. Space shifted around him as an unbelievable, miraculous vision appeared in Su Yi’s mind.
It was like an endlessly vast divine ruin billowing with chaos power and flowing mists, like the most ancient, primordial of chaos sources.
Countless currents of inscrutable power of the Grand Dao interwove, forming dazzlingly bright lightning.
Every time the lightning collided, it exuded stinging radiance, cleaving through the chaos mist. Overflowing power of the Grand Dao swept outward.
The world in the Book of Destiny was originally utterly dark and chaotic, but Su Yi’s Light of the Heart was like a lamp. It just barely managed to illuminate a corner of that vast chaos ground.
Wherever he looked, it was as if he were gazing down from on high, taking in the entire chaos ground.
Except all he saw was energy currents of inscrutable power and clashing firelight and flame.
In the end, Su Yi circulated his secret heart power to the very limit. Only then did he just barely manage to see the depths of this vast chaos ground. Countless chains interwove, some falling, others horizontal.
From a distance, it was like seeing countless cages woven entirely out of chains.
And a massive figure was imprisoned in one such cage. This was none other than River King Whistling Moon!
When Su Yi saw this, his heart shook.
Within moments, all of this faded away, but Su Yi’s brow was already tightly furrowed, his brow flickering with uncertainty.
The inside of the Book of Destiny was actually an incomparably mysterious chaos ground full of endless, inscrutable currents of the power of the Grand Dao. Its base was covered in countless interweaving chains, like prisons!
But the chains weren’t really chains, but rather, manifestations of the natural order, true Laws of the Grand Dao.
And River King Whistling Moon’s true name was sealed inside.
Earlier, Su Yi used a wisp of the Book of Destiny’s aura to sense a few mysterious presences and grasp a strange power. In doing so, he effortlessly uncovered River King Whistling Moon’s true name.
All of this furthered Su Yi’s understanding of the Book of Destiny.
It was indeed just as the Star Toad said. Whenever a denizen of the River of Destiny acquired their true name, it appeared within the Book of Destiny.
And he who controlled the Book of Destiny had the mysterious ability to issue divine decrees with his voice, presiding over the River Kings’ life and death. Their lives were entirely in the palm of his hand!
Moreover, those River Kings he slew were absorbed by the Book of Destiny, and the power of their true names was transformed into a brand and sealed in the tome!
