Chapter 2851 - Lying in Wait
The River of Destiny, outside the port to the Literati Continent.
The three thousand miles of water surrounding the port had been sealed off several days ago.
It was the work of Limitless Palace, Sevendeaths Court, the Court of the Southern Heavens, and the Heart-Tempering Sword House.
There were over thirty Heavenly Monarchs lying in wait here, as well as over a thousand Immeasurable, Silent, and Divine Wandering Realm Eternals!
Not long ago, over one hundred Heavenly Monarchs had fought in the battle of the Ancient Nine Luminaries City. Going by numbers alone, this group was considerably smaller.
However, this group consisted of the four factions’ mightiest experts. Each was mightier than the one before, and all had lofty, illustrious statuses!
This was the only way in and out of the Literati Continent. Throughout the ages, the cultivators of the continent’s top thirteen factions had taken turns watching over and protecting it.
But all of the experts of the Literati Continent who’d been standing guard here had been taken into custody several days prior, and all of the cultivators looking to enter the Literati Continent had been forced to leave. Everything within three thousand miles was calm and quiet.
A treasure ship floated on the surface of the water. A group of prominent cultivators had gathered on board, feasting and drinking. Each looked more leisurely and relaxed than the one before.
“Our presence here is obviously superfluous,” said a man in black. He took a big gulp of wine. “Multiple Heavenly Sovereigns came in person, and they’re standing guard at the barrier between worlds. Who in the present age could possibly escape them?”
The speaker was named Wen Zibo. He was an older-generation Heavenly Monarch of Limitless Palace. He was an unparalleled legend in his own right, a dazzling expert famed far and wide.
In his most dazzling battle to date, he single-handedly fended off thirteen experts of the same level. In the end, he managed to escape their encirclement. Despite leaving with heavy wounds, he managed to strike three of them dead and injure nine others.
Ordinary Heavenly Monarchs were as humble before Wen Zibo as ministers before a king!
“You can’t say that. Su Yi is under the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign’s protection. It’s highly likely that something will go wrong,” said a man in a feather coat. He seemed as steady as a mountain. “According to the Heavenly Sovereigns’ arrangements, they’ll do their best to hold the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign back, but they dare not guarantee that nothing will go wrong. We’re here just in case something goes awry.”
The man in the feather coat was called Cheng Yue. He was from the Court of the Southern Heavens.
He was one of the ten great Daoist Heavenly Monarchs of the Five Great Continents, and his abilities weren’t at all inferior to Wen Zibo’s.
“It would be best if our presence here was extraneous. We don’t want anything unexpected to happen,” said an old man in yellow robes. “If all goes well, we can just relax and enjoy ourselves. That would naturally be best.”
Feng Duhu. He was one of the thirteen Sky Protectors of Sevendeaths Court. He looked unassuming, but don’t let that fool you; he was like a god of slaughter, a brutal, bloodthirsty fiend so infamous that others paled at the mere mention of his name.
He’d slain too many Heavenly Monarch-level yao and demons to count!
When he unleashed the full extent of his baleful aura, it was like a vision of a blood-soaked purgatory descending upon the world.
It was thus obvious how dense his murderous intent was.
“When this is over, I’d like to visit the Literati Continent,” said a thin man in teal. His eyes were long and narrow, and his voice was deep.
This was Sword Monarch Jue Ying, or “He Who Leaves No Shadow.”
He was a mighty Sword Monarch of the Heart-Tempering Sword House, as well as the Malevolent Sword Venerate’s most trusted subordinate, his right-hand man. He had an extraordinarily lofty position and far-reaching authority in the Heart-Tempering Sword House.
He started out as a yao cultivator, and he was vicious and bloodthirsty by nature. When he saw someone as his enemy, he’d fight and kill until they and everyone close to them was dead. By the time he was done, even their homes were so devastated that nothing grew there, not even the grass.
Someone had once tallied up his kills and concluded that Sword Monarch Jue Ying had destroyed at least one hundred cultivation factions by now, including seven Heavenly Monarch factions!
Even a small cultivation faction had a thousand members, while larger sects had populations in the tens of thousands.
It was hard to even imagine how many cultivators had perished beneath Jue Ying’s sword.
“What do you want to do in the Literati Continent?” Wen Zibo asked with great interest.
Heavenly Monarch Jue Ying smiled. “I heard that the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign intends to protect two factions of the Literati Continent, the Blueleaf Sword Sect and the Light Beam Sword Pavilion. I’d like to see them for myself.”
Many of the others’ expressions grew strange. Several of them chuckled.
Who could possibly have failed to realize that Sword Monarch Jue Ying wanted to wipe both sects out?
“You’d best be careful, then. Even if something happens to the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign, a tiger remains upright even in death, and she has an unparalleled yao cultivator like Lian Luo for an attendant,” said Feng Duhu.
Heavenly Monarch Jue Ying had remained calm all this time, but at the mention of Lian Luo’s name, his gaze filled with murderous intent. His eyes were utterly bloodshot.
He smiled faintly. “To tell the truth, I’ve been eager to use Lian Luo’s bones to sharpen my sword for a long time now!”
He’d only just said this when the port to the Literati Continent rippled. Time and space shifted as a little silver boat whooshed into view.
The boat shattered into pieces moments later, dissipating into countless motes of light. A tall, upright figure appeared over the wreckage, seemingly out of nowhere. He was dressed in blue, with the look of one who’d risen above the dust of mundanity.
This was none other than Su Yi!
The crowd stirred. Startled cries arose on all sides.
Wen Zibo, Cheng Yue, Feng Duhu, Jue Ying, and the others in the middle of a banquet were startled into action. All of them rose to their feet.
When they recognized Su Yi, they were unwittingly stunned. Their brows furrowed. Su Yi actually managed to escape multiple Heavenly Sovereigns alive?
“Get in formation. Seal off all possible escape routes!” Wen Zibo gravely issued orders, his robes billowing around him.
The thousand-plus cultivators stationed throughout the surrounding three thousand miles of river instantly got to work. Formation flags fluttered, treasures lit up, and endless murderous intent swept forth in waves.
There were actually numerous killing formations in place throughout the area, and now, all of them activated at once.
Su Yi had only just arrived. When he saw the situation here, he couldn’t help but furrow his brow.
He thought back to his escape from the Literati Continent. He’d taken out his trump cards and offered to help, only for Lu Hongpao to refuse.
Her rationale was that there’d likely be numerous other dangers waiting for him outside the Literati Continent. She wanted him to keep his trump cards to defend himself later.
And she was right. There really were enemies waiting for him here.
“Su Yi, why don’t I see the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign with you?” said Wen Zibo, his voice booming throughout the area. “Don’t tell me... that something already happened to her?”
He was probing.
Su Yi suddenly looked directly at him. The depths of his gaze surged with irrepressible murderous intent.
As he made his escape, he was in low spirits, his heart full of self-blame and pent-up murderous intent.
And now, Wen Zibo’s words added fuel to the fire!
“Tch tch! Look at those eyes. They’re practically burning up with murderous intent and fury. That’s the impotent rage of someone with nowhere left to run,” Cheng Yue, one of the ten great Daoist Heavenly Monarchs, said with a burst of laughter.
He saw every subtle shift in Su Yi’s expression, and he was all but certain that something had happened to him during his escape. That, combined with the fact that Lu Hongpao wasn’t here with him, was all but unquestionable proof that the dazzling, long-famous Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign had met with disaster!
The other experts could guess the same thing, and their spirits soared. The way they looked at Su Yi shifted, too.
They’d originally thought their presence here was extraneous. Who’d’ve thought that Su Yi would charge right into their death trap?
“This really was an act of fate. You brought this upon yourself!” sighed Feng Duhu.
Sword Monarch Jue Ying’s eyes shone with bloodthirsty light. “You’d best be careful. The little wretch is dangerous even without the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign's protection. Don’t let him turn this around!”
Suddenly, he bellowed, “Su Yi, you’re already surrounded on all sides. If you don’t want to die, hurry up and kneel! Surrender and come quietly!”
His voice boomed like thunder, echoing far and wide.
“Kneel!”
“Kneel!”
“Kneel!”
The surrounding cultivators shouted in unison with shocking force and momentum.
This, too, was an attempt to probe him. If Su Yi surrendered without a fight, it would mean he was really at the end of his rope with nothing left at his disposal!
Su Yi stood there, all alone. He calmly scanned the crowd, his eyes never so much as rippling with emotion.
Those who understood Su Yi knew that when his anger peaked, he grew terrifyingly calm.
Like the calm before a storm.
He swung his sleeve, and a little girl dressed in rags appeared out of nowhere.
“Kill them,” Su Yi commanded calmly.
Innocence’s eyes silently narrowed. She’d always been able to sense the fluctuations of the human heart, so she could tell at a glance that her master’s heart was full of terrifying murderous intent! ƒгeewebnovёl.com
This was her first time seeing him this furious.
“Got it!” Innocence dared not hesitate.
Her shabby clothing silently transformed, billowing with the blood-red power of sin. A waterfall of black flowers poured down around her, enveloping her on all sides.
Those clear, guileless eyes transformed; her irises suddenly the color of blood.
Wen Zibo, Cheng Yue, and the other experts’ hearts shook. All of them looked stricken. freewebnøvel.coɱ
“Attack!” Wen Zibo bellowed.
The cultivators stationed throughout the surrounding three thousand miles of water performed their assigned roles with all their might.
Thirty-six killing formations sprang to life. Thunder, lightning, flame, Dao Light, calamities, sword qi... All manner of terrifying powers burst forth.
Practically simultaneously, Innocence took a gentle step forward.
Boom!
Endless sin power erupted like thunder on a flat plain.
A current of sin power swept forth, parting the surrounding waters and crushing the killing formations as if they were made out of paper.
As those deafening impacts rang out, the flood of sin power killed every cultivator in its path. All of them died brutal deaths, their bodies torn to pieces and their souls devoured by blood-red light. Desperate shrieks rang out, one after another.
Within moments, the battlefield was as messy as an overturned pot of congee. Everything was in chaos.
Countless onlookers looked startled. Who could have imagined that a little girl’s sin power could destroy so much in an instant?
And it wasn’t over yet. When the little girl opened her mouth, dozens of Sin Souls shot forth, all of them seething with murderous intent as they charged into the battlefield.
The little girl gripped a bloody spear and shot into battle, charging at Wen Zibo, Cheng Yue, and the other top experts’ treasure ship.
From beginning to end, Su Yi just stood there, his gaze calm and cold.
He made no noise save his robes rustling in the wind.
