Chapter 44: 44-Ugly Fat Pig
Verity:
Flashback:
"I’m the sister of the man you tortured today," I muttered, clenching my jaw.
He glared at me before a smile slowly formed on his lips.
He then let me go with a push and stepped back, slipping his hands into his pants pockets.
"So you are that fat sister who lives with him?" he mocked.
"You two losers do nothing but cry and force people to stay with you. Is that what’s going on?"
His tone shifted from anger to mockery.
The warriors started to laugh.
As I began to open my mouth to retaliate, Jaguar lifted a finger and gently touched it to his lips, closing his eyes.
"Shh," he murmured dramatically.
One corner of his lip curled upward.
"You know, usually when a woman comes to threaten me, I do not let go that easily. If it were someone else showing the nerve to be an omega and demand answers from an alpha king while insulting him, she would be in huge trouble."
He looked me up and down.
"But you," he paused and began to laugh, glancing around to make sure the warriors were watching.
"You’re just a fat, pathetic loser. A nerd nobody wants."
The words were true.
Nobody wanted me.
I was overweight, more than a little, and people reminded me of it in every waking moment of my life.
"You know what? I wouldn’t even want to talk to someone like you," he remarked.
"I only speak to people who love themselves, not someone who just eats themselves endlessly."
He had already decided not to take me seriously.
Instead of addressing the serious subject that brought me to him, he focused on my weight.
"I’ll go to the council and complain about you and your brother."
Those words left my lips before I even realized it, and I noticed the impact they had on him.
He did not look pleased.
He narrowed his eyes and pointed at his chest.
"You will complain about me?" he asked, his voice so eerily deep and creepy that it sent goosebumps down my arms.
"Did you guys hear that?"
He turned to the warriors, pointing at them and then back at me.
He had such a strange, thick accent that every word sounded clear and polished.
"You know, if this woman does not run out of my sight in two minutes, I will hang her brother in the street right in front of her."
My breath hitched at his threat.
"And then I will strip her and make her videos go viral."
He drunkly spoke gruntingly at me.
He hissed to the others, but it was meant for me to hear what my brother’s fate, and mine, would be if I did not leave.
"And as for you going to the council, go to the Moon Goddess." he laughed.
"No one has been born yet who can confront us. You heard me?" he shouted before shaking his head, almost losing his footing.
Tears began to stream down my eyes when I realized something.
There was no shame in them.
They were happily proud of what they had done to my brother.
"But this is not fair. You’re supposed to take care of your people," I cried.
He turned away, gesturing his hand dismissively at me like he was already done with the conversation.
"How many times have I told you not to let these helpless, ugly women around me?"
"I only like beautiful faces," he told a warrior in passing.
The warrior immediately understood what he meant and rushed toward me.
"No. I need to speak with Alpha King Ragnar now," I demanded.
The warrior grabbed my arm and began dragging me toward the road.
"You have embarrassed yourself enough. Do you want to go to Ragnar and have your head removed from your neck?" the warrior warned.
I could not tell if it was a threat or a warning.
Then he pushed me toward the road and gestured for me to leave.
"One more step toward the mansion and I will blow your head off."
When he said that, I realized something.
Alpha King Jaguar had already made it clear to the warriors that I was not a pack member they needed to protect, save, or lead.
I was completely on my own.
By the time the rain started, I began walking on foot.
Weirdly enough, after I made those comments to Alpha Jaguar, all my accounts suddenly froze.
I could not even book a cab. freёwebnovel.com
Jaguar was probably too drunk to do it himself, but he must have ordered one of his warriors to do it.
It was meant to teach me a lesson.
All of that, just because I tried to speak with him.
I realized something then.
Trying to make them understand their mistake was not going to work.
These were two powerful men, and I was just an omega they did not even want to speak to because, according to them, I was not pleasant to look at.
End Of Flashback.
"Verity."
Gigi calling out to me pulled me from my thoughts.
I almost shuddered.
It was never easy to go from thinking about the past to facing the present and realizing it was all over.
At least for me.
For them, it was only just beginning.
I forced a smile and approached her.
"How are you, Gigi? Oh my Goddess, you look beautiful."
The words felt forced as they left my mouth.
She looked nothing of the sort.
She was a despicable woman with an ugly, black heart.
"I’m fine. May I have a word with you?" she asked.
Then she briefly turned to look at Jaguar, and my heart flipped inside my chest.
I’d known Gigi since I was a child, so I understood her little habits and what they meant.
Especially when she looked at you and then at the person she suspected you were involved with.
That was her tell.
It was her way of showing that she wasn’t clueless.
And in that moment, she made me realize that somehow, she had figured something out.
"Yeah, sure," I replied.
I stepped toward the building, but she pointed outside.
"In the parking lot," she said.
For a moment, I felt as if my heart might stop beating.
