Chapter 35: 35-You Should Be A Virgin Too

Verity:

I heard Mrs. Baker’s voice, and I immediately knew she had intervened.

Of course she had.

That was exactly what I wanted.

The longer Jaguar had to wait to finally have me, the more obsessed he became.

I quickly pulled my legs away and jumped off the bed.

Grabbing my robe, I wrapped it around myself and adjusted it properly.

This time, I wore a velvet robe that covered me completely.

"Please stay here. I don’t want you to–" I murmured, biting my bottom lip and looking away. freewebnovёl.ƈom

Jaguar couldn’t even get a word out.

He remained seated on the bed, leaning forward before slowly straightening.

I didn’t wait for a response and walked out of the room.

The moment I stepped outside, I saw Mrs. Baker’s eyes widen.

Slowly, I ran a hand through my hair and strolled toward her with complete confidence.

"What is it?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest.

She understood exactly what I was implying.

That the Alpha King was in my bedroom.

That he had come here for me.

"I brought you some food," she uttered, holding out a tray.

I noticed her hand had started to tremble.

"It’s okay. You can take it back," I replied.

I watched her swallow nervously.

"I was hoping you could tell me if you’ve seen those burglars, but that’s alright."

I waved a dismissive hand, as though trying to comfort her.

"Alpha King Jaguar will find out who did it. He always does things for me."

I drew my shoulders back and gave her a sweet, almost cheeky smile.

In that moment, she probably realized she’d picked a fight with the wrong woman.

"Oh, I didn’t know you were friends with the Alpha —-King."

Mrs. Baker couldn’t even bring herself to say the right word.

"Yeah," I replied, looking down shyly and rubbing the back of my neck.

"Anyway, thank you for everything, but I’ll be fine now that he’s here," I added in a dramatic, seductive tone.

I noticed her body stiffen. Of course, she didn’t like it.

The thing was, I was doing my best to delay the intimacy and create small problems between me and the brothers.

Not enough to push them away entirely, but enough to make them feel that lingering pain.

I didn’t care whether a man or woman was a virgin, but I had to act as though it bothered me.

"Okay. If you need anything, let me know," Mrs. Baker said with a smile.

The corners of her eyes began to glisten with tears, probably because she feared that if Alpha King Jaguar investigated, his claws would reach the real culprit.

She might even know who that was.

"You know what I was thinking?"

Before the woman could leave, she turned around again and moved closer, as though we were about to discuss something in private.

"How about," she began with a smile, "we ask him to eat with us? You know, it doesn’t look good that you don’t have a family. What will he think?"

She spoke in a soft, secretive tone.

I stared at her in disbelief.

She wanted me to introduce her as my family so she could get benefits from him.

Still, I smiled at her because the old Verity wouldn’t have done that.

She would have been stupid enough to flat-out refuse.

But I was different.

I was the kind of person who wanted revenge, even if someone had only punched me once.

So I smiled and nodded, looking impressed.

"I think you’re right," I said innocently.

"Um, excuse me?"

That was when Jaguar stepped out.

His footsteps were heavy.

His breathing was loud too. Most of all, his scent was impossible to ignore.

"If you’ll give us a moment, I’d like to speak with Miss Verity," he said to Mrs. Baker with urgency.

That was because I had left him in a position where he thought things needed to be explained.

"Actually," I said, turning to him.

Then I pointed at Mrs. Baker.

"She is kind of family. She came here to invite you to dinner."

I introduced her exactly the way she wanted.

I watched her smile widen. She probably thought she had succeeded.

That she had fooled me.

Little did she know, she was about to get wrapped up in a very messy game.

And everyone she had wronged would be avenged.

"It’s okay. Thank you so much. I have to be somewhere for dinner."

Jaguar excused himself from her before looking at me.

The moment he noticed my smile fading, he seemed determined to explain himself.

"Actually, um, Gigi threw a dinner for Ragnar’s success, so I kind of have to hurry," he replied.

That was when I realized they were having a family dinner.

Gigi was trying to please Ragnar, trying to keep him in her claws, and even control the brothers because they seemed very careful about their actions around her.

But it also gave me the indication I needed to keep him here.

There was no way Jaguar would be attending this special dinner for his brother.

"Mrs. Baker, I’ll speak with you later, okay? And thank you so much for the food," I said, using a different tone.

That woman was so manipulative and toxic that she didn’t even question why a grown woman like me would suddenly be okay with someone who had been taunting her, slut-shaming her, calling her names, threatening her, and challenging her.

But of course, evil people never think they can be outsmarted.

Mrs. Baker nodded, left the tray on the table, and walked out.

I watched her leave before turning to Jaguar.

Now, whatever I had to do, I had to ruin his dinner plans with his brothers.

"I—I don’t know where to start," he admitted. "It’s just that I’m not a playboy. Trust me, I’m not."

His words made me look away and wrap my arms around myself.

"I don’t know what you’re thinking about me. Please say something," he pleaded.

His body language suggested he wanted to take my hand and ask what was wrong.

But he was scared because I had already shown him so much hostility in the room.

"I think there’s somewhere important you have to be tonight. We’ll talk later," I said, turning my back to him.

But that wasn’t all.

He wasn’t going to get away that easily.

He had made a huge mistake by coming over tonight.
