Chapter 23: 23-He Is Hungry For My Breast

Verity:

The car ride passed in complete silence.

Neither of us said a word.

It seemed as though a thousand thoughts were running through his mind.

One moment he was opening files, and the next he was checking his phone.

As expected of him, his life revolved around work, or around his brother and Gigi.

That was exactly what I had to change. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

I guess I had a really good chance last night, at least to try and stir something between us, but my hesitation ruined everything.

We arrived at the Omega side of the pack.

It was a small village, and I immediately noticed that most of the houses looked run-down.

No wonder these people were unhappy.

As soon as I got out of the car, I noticed the café where we would be having a meeting.

It looked as though the café had been hastily prepared for a special occasion, and I guessed the Alpha King’s arrival was the perfect excuse.

Although it was a very small café, they had put up lights and lanterns, trying to create the kind of atmosphere the Alpha King would appreciate.

Ragnar would have stood out here regardless.

There was something about the way he carried himself.

He paused to fasten a button on his coat and glanced around.

The owner of the café hurried outside, all smiles while holding a bouquet.

"Your Highness, we are blessed to have you here."

The man was in his early forties, yet he looked much older than his age.

I knew that because I had reviewed his documents.

Gathering information for meetings was part of my job.

The only difference was that I had been given very limited information about this meeting.

Everything I knew had been shared during the car ride.

That was why I had looked into the café owner myself.

His face seemed lined with worry.

He kept looking around and rubbing his hands anxiously, trying to make sure everything was in order.

I was smiling, even though deep down, I was troubled.

The memory of last night was exhausting me, but I kept a smile on my lips.

As I followed Ragnar into the café, the servers stood in a line to welcome us.

They all bowed to him, and he responded with a gentle nod before making his way to our booth.

Like I said, it was a small café, but it felt incredibly cozy.

The mountain view from the window was beautiful, especially from our booth.

I sat down beside Ragnar and noticed how much space he occupied.

He casually draped his arm behind my seat, but it made me uncomfortable, so I leaned forward, even if it was a little dramatic.

The seat was tall enough to support my back, but the backrest was slightly reclined. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

It seemed the Alpha had already been waiting because the moment we stepped inside and settled into our seats, an older man appeared.

He was wearing a brand-new suit, as though he had just taken it out of its cover.

He walked toward us with his Beta and Gamma at his side, both carrying gifts and bouquets.

As soon as they reached Ragnar, they bowed to him.

The man looked old, probably in his late fifties, and I wondered why he hadn’t passed the title to his son yet.

From what I had heard, his son had been training at the Academy to become an Alpha.

"Please, have a seat. We are truly grateful that you have honored us with your presence," Alpha Williams said to Ragnar, smiling so broadly that the corners of his eyes wrinkled.

"We’ve brought you some gifts as well," he added, gesturing toward the items his men were carrying.

Ragnar remained seated. With a brief flick of two fingers, he replied,

"No, it’s all right. You don’t need to spend a penny on me. Your pack members are already unhappy about certain matters. Let’s talk about that instead."

I was stunned by Ragnar’s response.

Sure, the man looked a little awkward now, but he still smiled at Ragnar.

Ragnar shifted in his seat. That was my cue to speak.

"So," I began, opening the file.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name." The old man interrupted me, and I offered him a polite smile.

"Hi, I’m Verity Swan. I’m Alpha Ragnar’s personal secretary. I manage and prepare documents for future meetings and help develop solutions to ongoing issues."

I kept talking, convinced I was doing a good job, until I noticed Alpha Williams’ gaze drop to my cleavage.

Then he rolled his tongue from cheek to cheek, making me look away.

It wasn’t something I appreciated.

It only made me uncomfortable, especially when I saw him swallow and lick his bottom lip.

"So, as I was saying, some people from the Omega community have complained about not receiving basic necessities."

I quickly changed the subject and held the file in a way that completely covered my upper body.

But it seemed like he was not going to give it a rest.

I continued explaining our proposal, and unfortunately, I had to put the file down to grab another sheet of paper.

I needed it to sketch out our plan for managing the pack’s finances and charitable programs in a way that would also benefit the Omegas.

To do that, I had to get up slightly and lean over the table.

That’s when I noticed the old man glance at his Beta and Gamma with a smirk.

I knew exactly what they were doing.

Quickly, I placed a hand over my cleavage while writing with unsteady fingers.

As I bent there thinking I would have to endure this for another half hour, I suddenly felt two cold, strong fingers touch my wrist.

They were trying to get my attention.

I put the pen down on the table and looked at Ragnar.

He gestured for me to sit back down.

His elbow rested on the chair’s armrest, his hand raised with two fingers against his cheek.

"My secretary is very talented. Of course, she has ideas on how to help your pack, but I want to hear your thoughts. Tell me, what do you have in mind for your people?" Ragnar asked.

The old man smiled proudly and leaned back.

However, I didn’t expect Ragnar’s next words.

"You need to get up."

The command was directed at the alpha.

"You are going to lean down and sketch out your plan."

The moment Ragnar said it, a shiver ran down my spine.

So he noticed.
