Chapter 2: 2-Pants Down And Dick On Display
Verity:
A few months had passed since that night, and little by little, life had begun to settle again.
I let myself believe the worst was behind me.
I began to think I would never hear the names of the Alpha Kings again.
Then one stormy night, everything changed.
"Alpha King Ragnar took my mate," my brother said.
Right in front of me, he broke down.
He had just arrived home, looking completely shattered.
Alpha King Ragnar was the eldest of the three brothers, the one no one even dared to mention.
He was the reason his brothers were the way they were.
Before I could speak, my brother dropped to his knees.
He dragged his hands down his face, then buried them in his hair as sobs tore out of him.
"Gigi said she got rid of our baby so she could be with that Alpha King," he choked out.
"She said she took care of it."
My breath caught in my throat.
"She aborted the baby?" I asked.
"She killed her," he whispered.
"Five months, Verity. She was five months pregnant. She threw our daughter away like she was nothing."
The walls seemed to press in around us.
Justin had been both father and mother to me since the day our parents walked away.
He was an omega, and I did not even have a wolf.
He had raised me, protected me, and given me everything he could.
Seeing him like this was unbearable.
"Justin, please. Have faith in the Moon Goddess. You will find someone better than her."
I reached for his hand.
He looked at me and gave me a small, broken smile.
Hatred burned inside me for what she had done to him.
The night dragged on without end.
I stayed in the living room, waiting in case Justin came out and needed me. freewebnσvel.cѳm
I fell asleep on the couch and woke to the sound of the front door closing.
Justin had already left for the local school where he worked.
Teaching was his real job.
But he took on construction work afterward and saved every spare coin for the future he wanted to build.
He had wanted to give Gigi everything she had ever dreamed of.
I studied from home and rarely stepped outside.
Years of bullying for being wolf-less and overweight had made sure of that.
But that morning, something felt wrong.
I wished Justin had stayed home and given himself a day to breathe.
Around noon, I was in the kitchen preparing the small food orders I sold to earn extra income when my phone rang.
"You need to come to the site. Your brother needs you."
It was Julia, his colleague from the school and one of the few people who had ever been kind to him.
Panic hit me at once.
I grabbed my bag and ran outside, still wearing my apron.
A crowd had gathered, and they were laughing.
Some of them were filming, while others replayed something on their phones as though it were entertainment.
That was when I saw Julia.
She stood in front of a concrete pillar with her arms spread wide, doing everything she could to shield someone behind her.
"Go away," she shouted at the crowd. "You’ve had your entertainment. Now leave."
The moment her eyes landed on me, her face changed.
Her hand flew to her mouth, and tears filled her eyes so quickly that my stomach dropped.
That look told me more than words ever could.
I stepped around the pillar and saw my brother crouched on the ground behind it.
His shirt had been ripped off and thrown aside.
And his trembling hands were clutching at his slipping pants as though that small act could preserve what little dignity he had left.
My whole body went numb.
For a moment, I could not breathe or even make sense of what I was seeing.
The crowd finally began to drift away.
My brother’s misery was no longer exciting to them.
It had become too boring.
"What happened?" I asked Julia as we brought Justin home and helped him onto his bed.
He was not himself.
He kept mumbling under his breath and glancing around the room as though he no longer recognized it.
Every so often, a sharp cry would tear out of him before he collapsed into sobs again.
"They came to his workplace," Julia said quietly, brushing a tear from her cheek.
My stomach tightened.
"Who?" I asked, lowering my voice.
Julia hesitated, then looked at me.
"Ragnar’s brothers."
A cold weight settled in my chest.
"What happened?"
She drew in a shaky breath and clasped her hands together.
"He texted Gigi," she said. "He just wanted to know why he was not enough."
My fingers curled into the couch.
"And?"
Julia swallowed.
"She did not answer him. She sent Alpha King Jaguar and Alpha King Theodore instead."
My throat went dry.
"They called him a harasser," she continued, her voice trembling. "Said they were teaching him a lesson."
I felt something twist in my chest.
"They beat him first," she whispered.
I stopped breathing.
"Then they tore his shirt off."
Her grip tightened around my hand.
"They dragged his pants down," she uttered, her voice shaking. "In front of everyone."
My vision blurred with fresh new tears.
"They–exposed him," she added, looking away. "They recorded everything."
My chest tightened with pain.
"They said the videos would spread."
For a moment, I could not breathe.
I covered my mouth with both hands as a broken gasp escaped me.
"Are you okay?" Julia asked, resting a hand lightly on my shoulder.
"They ruined my innocent brother," I complained while breaking down and she sat beside me, comforting me for an hour.
After some time, Julia left for home.
It was just me and my brother again.
The moment I dozed off, my world changed.
I woke in the middle of the night to a strange gurgling sound.
I rushed to my feet and stormed into my brother’s room.
A terrible feeling twisted in my gut.
What I saw was worse than anything I had imagined.
My brother lay on the ground.
His hands were wrapped around his neck.
An empty bottle of wolfbane mixed with silver and red liquid lay beside him.
"Justin, what have you done?" I cried, my voice breaking.
I dropped to my knees beside him.
He had taken poison to end the suffering they had caused him, right in front of me.
My whole world crumbled, and I could do nothing.
All I could think about was how I was going to tear apart those three brothers and every single one who had hurt him.
