Chapter 60: The necklace

"I... I..." When he pulled me out of my chair and cornered me against the wall, I didn’t know what to expect.

What does he want? Don’t tell me he’s planning to... kiss me. I don’t want that. I didn’t ask for a kiss. I wasn’t asking for one.

But he surprised me by pulling out a box from his pocket. "I guess this is a good moment to give you this." He opened it to reveal a stunning dark blue diamond necklace.

I swallowed, gazing at the glittering gemstone. "I know you don’t fancy stuff like this," he murmured as he retrieved the necklace from its box. Then he wrapped his arms around me and fixed the necklace around my neck.

"But I’d appreciate it if you wore it from time to time." After fastening the necklace, he took a step back to admire it.

"D... does it look good on me?" I asked, blinking.

He nodded once.

"Oh..." I lowered my gaze to the floor, suddenly at a loss for words.

"I picked it up in Texas," he revealed.

"Oh," I murmured again, still staring at the floor. I don’t think I can look at him—not when he’s this close to me.

Silence returned to the room and lasted for a minute.

"The pasta should be here in three minutes; have your seat." He turned and started to return to his chair when I stopped him.

"Wait!" I called.

"What is it?" He turned to me, confused.

"I... I haven’t thanked you," I whispered.

"T... thank you," I said quietly. "I’m sure it cost a fortune." I touched the necklace as I spoke.

But Bryce didn’t respond; he just watched me in silence. After about two minutes, he suddenly came to me, wrapped a hand around my waist, held my jaw with his other hand, and pressed his lips to mine, kissing me.

A gasp escaped me the moment his lips touched mine. I tried to pull away, but he tightened his grip, pulling me impossibly closer and deepening the kiss. His tongue entered my mouth, exploring every corner; his scent filled my nostrils, and his breath fanned my face as he continued his assault.

His hand roamed my body, slipping past my panties to touch my bare skin; he squeezed my ass, causing a moan to slip out. He took advantage and kissed me even deeper; I felt his tongue touch the back of my throat. This almost made me gag, but I held still and let him continue.

The door opened but closed almost immediately; silence filled the room. The only sounds we heard were our breathing and the clicking of our tongues as we fought for dominance. Or not—because I wasn’t really fighting. I can’t fight a battle I have no chance of winning.

Another moan escaped when his teeth grazed my bottom lip and he bit me slightly; he sucked my lips like a lollipop, and when I couldn’t handle it anymore, I forcefully pulled away.

I’m out of breath. I’m panting. I need a minute to regain my senses, but Bryce didn’t let go; instead, he pulled me into his arms and helped me relax.

We went still again. No one spoke or moved; a few seconds passed, and a knock shifted our attention.

"Can we come in now?" a voice called from the door.

"Yes," Bryce responded. He released me, and I returned to my seat. He went to his. They brought my lunch, and I didn’t hesitate to devour it. Afterward, I finished the wine. Yes, I finished the whole thing. It was so sweet, and I had no problem drinking it since it was nonalcoholic.

"Are you good?" Bryce asked after I was done.

"Yes."

"Let’s go." He stood up, and I rose with him. He interlocked our fingers and led me out of the room.

Why is he holding my hand? This is so unnatural and unusual. Is he truly reflecting on himself?

After he paid the bill, he took me to the car and drove me back to the mansion. "Welcome home," Nanny Samantha greeted us in the garage.

Why is she here?

"What are you doing here?" I mouthed, staring at her.

"Your friend visited; she’s in your room."

"My friend?"

"Ruby? Is she here?" She didn’t tell me she was coming.

"You still need to exercise," Bryce said as he got out of the car.

What? Does he want me to keep training? Seriously?

"I’ll be with you in an hour; continue training with the ball until you get good at it," he instructed before walking away.

I frowned. I don’t need this stupid training.

"What will you do? See your friend first, or head straight to the gym?"

"I’ll see my friend," I answered before leaving the garage. I went upstairs and found Ruby in my room, lying on my bed and looking through my schoolbook.

"You’re here." She looked up as I entered.

"You didn’t call."

"I sent a text, but it seems you were too busy to see it. Where are you coming from?"

"I went somewhere."

"With one of the brothers?" she inquired.

"Yes."

"Which one?"

"Bryce."

Her brows shot up, and she sat up.

"Where did he take you?"

"We went to the border, then to a restaurant. He gave me a necklace, kissed me, and drove me home. Now he’s back to bullying me," I said.

"He brought you a necklace? The one on your neck?"

"Yes."

"Let me see it," she said, coming over to examine it.

"Wait, how much is this? It’s so pretty, and it looks perfect on you! But it would look even more perfect on me," she giggled. "How much did he pay for this?"

"I don’t know," I shrugged.

"Bring it here." She unhooked the necklace and set it on the table, took a picture, and scanned it.

"Let’s find out." She searched for its price online. When she saw it, her jaw dropped open, her eyes widened, and she bared her teeth.

"What???! You could buy a house with this," she exclaimed. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"How much is it?" I leaned closer to check the price, and when I saw it, my eyes also went wide and my face twisted in shock.

"What???"
