Chapter 40: Dirty old man
Ruby didn’t fail to notice my discomfort during the ride to school; she kept asking me about it, but I couldn’t say a word to her.
"You still won’t tell me?" Ruby followed me after we left the vehicle.
"I’ll tell you, I’m not hiding it," I sighed, facing her.
"Then what? Your mood changed inside the car," she observed.
"It’s the driver."
"Do you know him?"
"No, I don’t. But he is weird; he kept caressing my hands after I shook his."
"What? Why didn’t you speak up? Willa could have handled it, or I would have handled it perfectly."
"I... I was uncomfortable and embarrassed. I was sexually harassed the other day at the warehouse. I can’t believe this is happening again."
"More reason you should have spoken up. You know what? I’m going to that old man. Doesn’t he have kids? He’s old enough to be your father." Ruby turned and began to head to the car, but I stopped her.
"Let the brothers handle it; I’ll text Parker and let him know about this," I whispered.
"Do you promise?"
"I do, I promise."
"Good."
Ruby followed me to my first class.
"Won’t you go to your class?"
"It starts in fifteen minutes; I can stay with you until then. I don’t have friends to talk to over there," she mumbled. We stepped into the classroom, but a sudden loud sound made me step back.
"What are you doing?" Ruby grimaced.
Remi was holding a welcome-back-to-school card; a guy was holding a trumpet beside her.
What is wrong with her?
"Why? You don’t like my surprise?" She giggled and started approaching me, but Ruby blocked her.
"You’re not allowed to go close to her."
"Why? Are you her new security?" Remi frowned, displeased by Ruby’s attitude.
"What if I am? Yes, I am her new guard."
Wait, that’s right. Willa didn’t follow me to class today. She had previously embarrassed me by following me and standing in front of the classroom.
Did she have a change of mind, or did the brothers order her not to? Whatever the case might be, I’m honestly glad she’s not here.
"You’re a nobody; get out of my way," Remi snapped. "Don’t ruin my surprise. You’re ruining it."
"No one asked you to do this, you wench."
"Wench?" Remi hissed. "How dare you call me that? You have no right!"
"Then what should I call you, wench?"
"How dare you? You’re a nobody. You wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Amera."
"Yes, I’m here because of her, so what? Would you be here if it weren’t for your daddy? You threatened your daddy with his nudes, and that’s why he sent you to this school," Ruby countered.
Oh my gosh, Ruby. How can she say that? It’s a secret; Remi told me that the other day.
"What?" Remi shifted her gaze to me. "You told her?"
"Why? Everyone knows your secret; don’t look so surprised." Ruby pushed her out of the way and went to a seat.
I also walked past her and took a seat beside Ruby.
"You betrayed me. How could you betray me in that manner? Out of all the people you could tell, you told this bitch about me," Remi screamed, and when I didn’t respond, she rushed out of the class.
When she left, the other students began to troop in.
"Why did you say that? It was supposed to be a secret," I whispered to Ruby. "You told me the secret was safe with you."
"It’s safe; I didn’t tell anyone about it," she whispered back.
"But you just told Remi," I retorted.
"It doesn’t matter; she’s the owner of the secret. It doesn’t make a difference."
Moon goddess! I can’t believe her.
"Ten minutes are up, the professor is on his way. I have to go, see you later." She stood up and left.
The lecture lasted for an hour, after which I attended my next class and continued to the following classes until it was time for lunch.
I sat with Ruby in the cafeteria.
"French fries?" She stared at my lunch with disgust.
"Mind your business." I rolled my eyes; she doesn’t like my lunch.
After eating, we chatted for a while before leaving for our separate classes.
A few hours later, we were on our way home. A text came to my phone. I opened it to check the message.
Sandra. She texted.
She sounds worried. She said Cole is also worried about me.
Oh, I haven’t kept in touch with them since my discharge; I’ll give her a call once I’m alone.
We arrived at the mansion, and Ruby eyed the old driver.
"Why haven’t you gotten rid of him?"
"Oh shit, that’s true."
"I’ll text Parker." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
I sent Parker a text.
"Are you less busy?"
A response came in less than a minute.
"Yeah, but you can talk to me if it’s urgent."
"No, it’s not; talk to you later," I sent a reply.
"What did he say?" Ruby looked at me.
"He’s busy; I’ll tell him about it later."
"You shouldn’t hesitate; he looks creepy. I hate his gaze. You should report him before he hurts you; don’t delay this," she warned.
"I know, I’ll get this issue resolved before tomorrow."
"All right, I’ll be on my way now. Bye for now."
"Bye," I waved and watched her walk away.
I turned towards the entrance and began to leave, but the old driver called me.
"Ms.," he called, hurrying to meet me.
What does he want? I stood there a little confused as he came closer.
"Ms., I never got to properly introduce myself earlier, but I wish to do that right now," he stated.
"You’re a very pretty young lady; I have a daughter who is around your age. She is also very beautiful, but she’s not as beautiful as you." His eyes went to my chest and rested there for a moment.
"I feel happy for this opportunity I got; I’ll serve you with all my strength. I’ll make you very happy too. I’ll do everything you want. I’m actually a very healthy old man. Although I’m fifty-seven, I have the stamina of a twenty-year-old man. So whenever you need me, if you need me at night or in the day."
"Morning, afternoon, or anytime you need me, do not hesitate to call for me."
His eyes went to my chest again, and he licked his lower lip.
"I can protect and shield you from many envious people. That’s why I’m here. I can also be a father if you need me."
"And if you need someone to call ’Daddy,’ I’ll be perfect for that role." He brought his hand and tried to touch my shoulder, but I moved away from him, and before I could control myself, my hand had found its way to his cheek.
