Chapter 22: Cooper’s trouble

It’s been three days since Cole made his escape. The plan was successful, and he has gone into hiding, which has greatly annoyed the brothers. They are all upset with me for this, and as a result, they extended the workers’ leave for another week. Hearing this news frustrated me immensely. I’ve been doing the chores for three days now, but it feels like three years.

And no, I haven’t been cleaning the entire house—just the frequently visited areas: the four brothers’ bedroom, their bathroom, my room, the dining area, their offices, and the sitting room.

I avoid the other areas. I’m not sure if they’ve noticed, but if they have, they’ve never mentioned it.

It’s 6:10 AM right now, and I’m trying to make breakfast for them. The brothers don’t enjoy takeout, so I have no choice but to cook.

Currently, I’m preparing the simplest breakfast: fried eggs, bread, and chocolate tea. I didn’t bake the bread; there’s a bakery close to the house where I buy it.

After making breakfast, I walked to the dining room to serve it. I was on my way back to the kitchen when Gavin showed up.

"Good morning, love," he greeted, approaching the breakfast.

He picked up a slice of bread and shoved it into his mouth before turning to me.

"This again?"

"Y...eah."

"The others are busy; you don’t have to make breakfast today. I forgot to mention it earlier."

"But I already made breakf... I already made breakfast." He could have informed me earlier; I woke up early to do this. This isn’t fair.

"Yeah, I know. Sorry." He walked up to me, patted my shoulder, and started to leave.

"My room is a bit messy; clean it before you head to school," he ordered as he walked away.

School? Did he just mention school? The last time I was there was Tuesday; I couldn’t attend classes, not with all these chores glaring at me.

I doubt the brothers cared, though, and even if they did, they were probably too annoyed to point it out, so they just left it.

With a groan, I returned to the dining table, collected the dishes, and took them back to the kitchen.

All my efforts have gone to waste. I can’t believe this. After cleaning up, I took the cleaning supplies and went to Gavin’s room, and goodness!

What happened here? Why is it such a mess? Ugh!

I’m so tired. I’m tired of this maltreatment and constant bullying. Should I escape? Should I leave this hellhole?

No, I shouldn’t think like that. I should never consider escaping again.

Yes. I’ll clean the room and then take a break.

After encouraging myself, I began to clean. It took about forty minutes, but I managed to finish.

Once I was done, I collapsed onto the bed.

My phone—I still haven’t found it. I don’t know if the maid stole it, but I hope that’s not the case.

Feeling sleepy, I closed my eyes and was about to drift off to dreamland when the door burst open, and Gavin poked his head in, startling me.

"Are you sleeping?" He asked, but I jumped to my feet and shook my head.

"Cooper wants you in his office; he needs you there in the next twenty minutes. It’s an emergency," he said before shutting the door.

T... twenty minutes? Did he say twenty minutes? Shit!

I grabbed the cleaning supplies, dumped them in the storeroom, rushed into my bathroom, and had a quick shower. After washing, I put on palazzo jeans and a mini top with sneakers and then walked to the garage.

Willa was waiting. I got into the vehicle, and she drove me to Cooper’s company, parking in the garage. I hadn’t even stepped out of the car before I started hearing commotion.

Workers were rushing around with files; some were on their systems, and a few were conversing in groups.

What’s happening?

I went to the elevator, which took me to the top floor, Cooper’s office. I got off to find his floor empty. His assistant and secretary were nowhere to be found, and files were scattered across the floor.

Sighing, I carefully collected the files and arranged them before dropping them on the secretary’s desk.

I walked to Cooper’s office, knocked on the door, and without waiting for a response, I entered. I knew Cooper was in there.

And I was right. He was seated behind his desk, appearing to be asleep.

He’s sleeping? I tiptoed closer and walked behind him. His computer was on, displaying several strange figures on the screen.

When I tried to take a closer look, he stirred awake and looked at me.

"You’re here," he said in a downcast tone.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Come here." He took my hand and guided me to sit on his lap. I sat, straddling him.

"Is everything okay? I saw the workers, and the situation doesn’t look good," I commented on my observation.

"Yup, but can you stay quiet for a few seconds?" He rested his head on my chest, and we fell silent.

After about fifteen minutes, he broke the silence.

"There’s a coffee machine right below; can you make a cup for me?"

"Yeah, sure." I tried to sit up, but he held me in place.

"Why...?" I looked at him, confused.

"I want to stay like this, in this position with you," he sighed.

"But... I have to make coffee..."

"I know," he said, pulling me closer and burying his nose in the crook of my neck to breathe in my scent, he kept sniffing me until he grew tired. freēwēbnovel.com

"You can go," he finally released me.

I stood up and went to the lower floor, made two cups of coffee—one for me and one for him—and was about to enter his office when I paused at the sound of a familiar voice.

Bryce? He’s here?

Another familiar voice followed. Gavin.

Then Parker. freeweɓnøvel.com

The four brothers are here. If they’re here, then the situation must be dire. Is Cooper in some kind of trouble?

I hope not.

That’s the thing with me: no matter how badly they bully me, I still don’t wish for their misfortunes. I don’t know if it’s the mate bond speaking or if I’ve also become crazy like them, but I sincerely don’t want any of them to get into serious trouble. Especially not Cooper.
