Chapter 105: Connections

"What are you doing here?" I asked before I could stop myself.

"What else? I came to eat," he replied, digging into his lunch.

"But..." I glanced at Ruby and saw her staring at me too. What is this? Why is he still in school? Did the dean forget? No, that’s not possible. He’s not the type to forget things.

Something must be wrong, or did they expel the wrong person instead?

I need to find out the truth, I thought, dropping my cutlery and standing up. He looked up. "Where are you going?"

"I need to use the restroom," I replied.

"The restroom?" Ruby mouthed.

"The Dean’s office," I mouthed back. "Stay here; I’ll be quick."

"Okay," she said.

"I don’t like eating alone; I thought I made that clear," he groaned.

"You won’t be eating alone; my friend is here." I gestured to Ruby, who smiled at him.

He rolled his eyes. "Be quick."

"I will," I said, stepping out. I left the cafeteria and went straight to the dean’s office. I knocked but didn’t wait for a response before entering. He was in a meeting with some staff members, but I didn’t hesitate or hide my concerns.

"I need to speak with you," I said.

"Please excuse us," the dean told the staff, and they left.

I didn’t say another word, just folded my arms below my chest. I wanted his excuse, whatever it was.

"Ms. Amera," he said, rising and coming to stand beside me. "I know why you’re here, and I understand your concerns, but things have been a little difficult."

I fixed my eyes on him. "Why?"

"The student named Ryan is a transfer student in his final year."

"A transfer student? Not a freshman?"

"No, he isn’t."

"So why haven’t you expelled him?"

"He has connections."

"Connections?" I frowned. "What connections?"

"Forgive me, Ms. Amera, but I don’t have the power to handle this. I suggest you involve the brothers. They might be able to do something."

"I don’t understand," I said, frowning deeper. "Why is it so difficult to expel him?"

"Because his connections are too powerful. You have to involve the brothers in this. If you can’t, I will."

"What is his connection? Who is behind him? Give me the name."

"The name?" He looked surprised.

"Yes, you should know that much, right?"

"I... Actually, it’s been difficult for me too. I’ve made lots of calls, but he’s one of our VIP students; I can’t expel him."

"Then suspend him. Suspend him until you find a solution," I suggested.

"That is also not possible, Ms.," he said, lowering his head.

A frustrated sigh escaped me. Without another word, I turned and left the office.

What connection does he have? Do I have to involve the brothers? This is frustrating.

I stood in front of the dean’s office for several minutes before returning to the cafeteria. From a distance, I watched him. Ryan. That’s his name.

Who is the power behind him? I’m very curious.

Ruby noticed me and waved.

"Come on," she called.

I walked back to the table and took my seat. "Were you giving birth to a baby in the toilet?" Ryan asked, but I didn’t respond.

I grabbed my milkshake and took a sip, then moved to my chips and ate in silence. Ruby noticed my foul mood but said nothing until we were alone.

"What happened? You don’t look good," she observed.

"I’m stuck. I’ve never been in a situation like this before."

"What happened at the dean’s office?"

"He’s a VIP student, so he can’t be expelled. He has connections, so suspending or expelling him might not be possible," I summarized.

"Really?" she gasped, surprised.

"Yeah."

"Will you tell the brothers about this?"

"I don’t know; I’m confused."

"I’m sorry this happened. You don’t deserve it. The rumors are making things worse."

I exhaled. "I know."

"Why don’t we find the ones who had sex? The guy and the girl? They might be able to help you. Just describe what they look like, and I’ll have some people investigate."

"I don’t know, Ruby."

"Didn’t you see their faces?"

"I didn’t," I groaned. "I was too shocked and didn’t look at them—neither the girl nor the guy. I don’t know what they look like."

"My goodness! You should have... You should have looked."

"I was afraid I’d see them naked, so I didn’t look. I was also very nervous. If I’d known things would turn out this way, I would have looked. I regret it."

Ruby exhaled. "Let’s go to class for now; we’ll come up with a solution later," she advised.

After school, I met Maria at a coffee shop. "So, why did you ask to meet up?" Maria asked after a bite of her cake.

"Oh, I have a question to ask you. I couldn’t ask Parker, so I came to you. And by the way, where’s Aria?"

"With her nanny. I don’t take her everywhere," she replied.

"Oh, great. Is she doing okay?"

"She’s great."

I smiled.

"Your question must be important since you wanted to meet. This is the first time."

"Yes," I chuckled.

"Have you been seeing Parker?"

"I have. We went to the amusement park yesterday," I revealed.

"Amusement park?"

"Yes, I got on many rides; it was fun."

"Did Parker get on those rides with you?"

"No."

"Right, he couldn’t have," she nodded.

"Why do you say so?"

"He’s scared of heights."

"Parker is?" I exclaimed.

"You didn’t know?"

"I didn’t."

"That boy keeps a lot of secrets," she shook her head. "He should be more open with you. It’s the only way he can win your heart."

I chuckled. "He took me to a street restaurant, and I met his late friend’s mom."

"His late friend’s mom?" She paused, looking at me.

"Parker mentioned a friend he had in high school and how he loved his mom’s food. After the amusement park, he took me to her restaurant."

"Oh, he did? That’s strange."

"But the woman reacted aggressively toward Parker, and when I asked about it, he said he could explain, but he hasn’t. I don’t want to push him, so I came to you."

"Eat your cake; aren’t you hungry?" she asked when I kept ignoring my order.

"I am," I laughed, "but learning the truth is more important right now." ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"I’ll tell you what I know, since he said he’d tell you. But trust him; he’ll tell you the whole truth eventually. You just have to be patient."

"Okay."

"I’ll tell you what I know."

"All right, I’m listening."

"I knew his friend. They grew up together and were best friends. I was also close to his mother, the woman you met at the restaurant. We lived in the same building, so we often had dinner together."

"The four of you?"

"Yes. Parker, his friend, his friend’s mom, and me. His friend didn’t have a father, so it was just us."

"Okay."

"Back then, we weren’t wealthy, but we were comfortable."

"You weren’t wealthy?"

"No, we weren’t. Actually, I raised Parker on my own."

"I thought the General made you rich."

"He did. He made me wealthy, but he also stole from me."

This is confusing. Why would the general steal from her?

"As I said, I’ll only tell you what I know. Back then, we weren’t wealthy; Parker and I lived in a one-room apartment. I ran a flower shop to support his education, and he studied hard; he wanted to be a pilot."

"A pilot?" I smirked.

"Yes," she laughed. "Isn’t it funny? Someone who’s afraid of heights wanted to be a pilot?" She kept laughing.

"It is."

"He wanted to face his fears and get over them; he thought becoming a pilot would help. But in his final year of high school, everything changed. His friend died, and the General took him."

"The General took him?"

"Yes, he lived with the General after his friend died."

"How did his friend die?"

"The General killed him."

"What?" I gasped.

"They beat him to death, smashed his head or something; I’m not sure. Parker has never given me the full details. He keeps things to himself now."

"I think he even lied to his friend’s mother, saying he was responsible for his friend’s death."

"Why would he do that?" I frowned.

"I don’t know; you should ask him," she said, her anger clear. Then she sighed. "Parker was such a good kid, but after the General took him, he became someone I didn’t recognize. He became a devil."

"I want my son back. He loved me so much back then; he adored me. Now, he barely looks at me."

I sighed. "I’m sorry about that."

"No, you don’t have to apologize. I’m also part of why he changed. I’m not flawless. I’m guilty too."

I exhaled, feeling a little sad.

"Amera," she called, suddenly acting serious. I looked at her.

"Can you help him?" She asked. "Can you help him become himself again? I want him to be the sweet boy I always knew. Can you help me with that?"
