Chapter 318: Chapter 318 Another Tired Setup
Christina’s POV
I headed upstairs to the reserved suite after one of Hudson’s security men brought my spare dress from the car. The wine had dried on my skin, leaving it sticky and uncomfortable.
Tossing my ruined dress over a chair along with my purse, I stepped into the bathroom for a quick shower. When I emerged a few minutes later, dressed and feeling human again, something immediately felt wrong.
My purse wasn’t where I’d left it. I’d hooked the strap over the chair back, but now it sat neatly on the seat.
"Someone was in here," Akira growled in my mind.
I glanced at the closed door, skin prickling with unease. Who had slipped in while I was showering?
I quickly checked inside my purse. Everything seemed to be there—phone, wallet, compact, lipstick. But when I unlocked my phone, I discovered two messages had been sent from my account while I was in the shower.
[Me]: I need to talk to you. Come see me in Suite 302. Come alone.
[Me]: You were right. My marriage to Hudson was a mistake. I did it to piss you off because you chose Beatrice over me. But now that you two are no longer together, I... Just come. We need to talk.
Both were sent to Niall Granger.
"Fuck," I muttered, a word I rarely used.
"Someone’s trying to sabotage us," Akira snarled.
How had they gotten into my phone? Did they know my passcode? Or had they lifted my fingerprint from a glass?
No reply from Niall yet, but it was too late to unsend the messages. I immediately called Hudson.
"Hey, can you come up to the suite? Like right now?" I kept my voice steady despite my racing heart
He caught my tone immediately. "I’ll be there in a minute."
I paced the room, mind racing. Would Hudson believe me if I said his childhood sweetheart was setting me up? Only two people at this party hated me enough to pull something like this. Serenna was desperate to hook Niall, but she wouldn’t sabotage herself this way.
That left Genevieve.
But what proof did I have?
When Hudson walked in, I gave him a once-over and shook my head. "Maybe I should’ve married someone less ridiculously attractive."
He frowned. "What’s wrong?"
I touched his freshly shaven cheek, then pinched it lightly out of petty revenge for earlier. He winced but didn’t pull away.
"Why do you attract women like moths to a flame?" I sighed. "Rowan Hale, Lea, and now Genevieve. When will they stop drooling over you and realize you’re taken?"
His eyes darkened with understanding. "What has she done?"
"Disclaimer first—I have zero evidence." freewebnovel.cσ๓
"Just tell me what happened," he said.
"I keep my distance from other men because I’m married to you. But will you do the same and refuse every woman who throws herself at you? Because seeing you with Genevieve earlier still stings." I held his gaze, needing him to understand.
"Of course," he replied without hesitation.
"Remember that."
My phone pinged with a notification.
After checking the message, I made sure the front door was slightly ajar. "Come with me," I whispered, leading Hudson into the bathroom.
He followed, questions in his eyes, but trusting me enough to wait.
"Just give it a couple minutes. You’ll see."
We didn’t have to wait long. Soon, the front door swung open, and Niall walked in with a spring in his step.
"Christina! I knew it. I knew you only married Hudson to get back at me." His voice was breathless with excitement. "I’ll never hold it against you. As long as you’re willing to leave him and come back to me, I’ll love you like before. It’s not serious with Serenna. I feel nothing for her. She’s the one chasing me."
He checked the bedroom first, then approached the bathroom and knocked softly. "Christina, are you in there?"
Hudson looked at me, his jaw clenching tight enough to snap steel.
"Just wait," I whispered, placing a calming hand on his arm. "There’s more."
The front door banged open again, much louder this time.
"Oh my God, there really is a man in here." A woman’s voice.
"And it’s not Hudson." Another voice chimed in.
"I’m sure I just saw Hudson’s wife go into this suite."
"Shameless. She must be hiding from us."
"Christina, you’re my cousin!" Serenna cried, her voice breaking with well-rehearsed tears. "You broke up with Niall first. How could you try to seduce him now?"
"Serenna, what are you doing here?" Niall’s tone was tight with annoyance.
"What am I doing here? If I hadn’t shown up, you two would already be rolling around in bed."
"Stop talking nonsense," Niall snapped.
"Christina, come out! Hiding won’t solve anything. Get out here and explain yourself!" Serenna hammered on the bathroom door.
I stayed quiet. The trap was almost complete.
"Come out! Or are you too ashamed?" Serenna’s voice climbed to a shrill pitch.
Hudson nudged me, his eyes glowing with barely contained rage.
I shook my head. "Wait. There’s one more player in this little drama."
"Genevieve?" he asked.
"Bingo. But she’s smarter than Serenna. Probably won’t show her face directly." I felt a flicker of disappointment.
Hudson’s phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen, and his expression darkened to something truly terrifying. He angled the phone for me to see.
[Genevieve]: Hudson, where r u? Been looking everywhere. Your wife’s in suite 302 with her ex. Thought you should know.
I smiled. A moment ago, I’d been worried I couldn’t prove Genevieve’s involvement. But she’d just handed me exactly what I needed without realizing it.
I met Hudson’s eyes. The Alpha of The Sabreridge pack was livid, but his rage wasn’t directed at me.
He nodded once, understanding everything.
I patted his shoulder. "Maybe tone down the charm a bit? It was kind of amusing watching women twist themselves into knots trying to get close to you, but now it’s just exhausting."
Hudson’s expression remained grim.
"Christina, come out, you bitch! Or I’ll break down this door, I swear I will!" Serenna was still shrieking. "You can’t hide in there forever!"
"Serenna, enough!" Niall barked.
"Time to make our entrance," I whispered to Hudson.
When I pulled open the bathroom door, at least a dozen startled eyes locked onto me.
"There she is!"
"Who’s that behind her?"
"That’s her date!"
"What? How..."
Hudson’s appearance silenced the entire room. His Alpha presence filled the space like a physical force, making several people step back instinctively.
I smiled sweetly at Serenna, enjoying the shock and horror spreading across her face.
"Surprise," I said. "Bet you didn’t see that coming, did you?"
