Chapter 10: Helping Hand
When he noticed them, Edgar stood up. He picked up the makeshift spear and threw it at Andrew.
The youth caught it and looked at him in surprise. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Edgar spoke while already walking. "Follow me."
The boy didn’t deny it and walked behind him like a soldier.
Edgar stood in front of the two soldiers of the Yamhad Clan and asked. "How can I help you?"
The two who were gawking around the place slowly turned to look at him.
Michi whispered softly. "Banjo, were there always two towers in this place?"
Banjo shook his head and gulped. "I don’t think so."
"What happened in such a short time?" Michi asked more to himself than Banjo. "Was Lady Hera right about him?"
"My Lord asked something."
Tired of their whispering, Andrew spoke in a deep voice.
They both snapped out of their trance-like state and cleared their throats.
Michi hesitantly bowed his head and said. "Greetings, fortress owner Sir Edgar."
Edgar noticed the change in his tone and his lips curled up. "Are you really the same guy from before or did a Humanoid Night take your place?"
Michi looked away uncomfortably and replied. "It’s me, I can assure you."
Edgar’s smile died down as he asked again. "What do you need?"
They both stepped aside and showed him the box they were carrying.
Banjo walked forward and opened it. The box was filled with red meat, grains, and even rice.
Along with it were six Nightmare Stones placed on the side.
Edgar looked at them once again. "What’s the meaning of this?"
"It’s a gift from Lady Hera." Banjo replied, lowering his head. "She wished to provide you with aid and hopes to be friends with you."
Edgar narrowed his eyes and looked at them. "If she wanted my friendship then she wouldn’t have sent both of you."
"About that." Michi said, bowing his head deeply. "We sincerely apologise for what we did before. It was uncalled for. Our behaviour was a disgrace to the Yamhad Clan."
Banjo hesitantly added. "We will accept any punishment you give us."
Edgar looked at them without saying a word. He could more or less guess what type of person Lady Hera was.
He thought for a moment before replying. "I will take the gifts but as compensation for your previous behaviour."
His voice turned cold. "And whether to be ’friends’ with your lady is my choice."
They bowed and replied. "That’s more than enough."
Banjo and Michi quickly placed the box inside the fortress, close to the tower.
They bowed to Edgar once more before walking on the uneven path.
---
Once Banjo and Michi were far enough away, they looked back and only found the dull grey-black fog.
"How did he get a Builder in such a short period of time?" Banjo asked. "With how fast the tower was created, I wouldn’t be surprised if the one who created it was at Level 5."
"Looks like Lady Hera was right once again." Michi said while rubbing his face. "There is no way Edgar’s parents left him without any aid."
Banjo nodded his head. "Perhaps his mother, who was also a Builder, asked her friends to help him before dying."
Michi nodded with a tired sigh. He deeply regretted his previous behaviour.
"Lady Hera is as smart as she is beautiful." He said in admiration. "Our monkey brains couldn’t see through what she saw at a glance."
"That’s why she is an advisor and a Healer at such a young age." Banjo shook his head. "Let’s head back and tell her about the Towers."
Michi nodded his head. "Yes."
There were two fortresses of the Yamhad Clan in close proximity.
One of them was the main base while the other was a substitute base. The main base was mainly used by travellers who were there to visit Sarogan Bazaar.
Both of them had to walk a long distance before they reached their destination.
---
Edgar sat in his room and looked at the items that he got from the Yamhad Clan.
’They were generous with the gifts....’
The red meat alone was around 10 kgs. Along with other grains and rice, the box was at least 50 kgs.
’Both of them are quite strong, aren’t they, to bring it all the way from their fortress this early...’
Edgar rubbed his temples and thought about the two soldiers.
’I really need to increase my strength.’
Part of the reason why he accepted the gifts was because he was still hesitant to visit Sarogan Bazaar.
Edgar was still wary of the Atreus Clan. He still feared an assassination attempt from them.
’Once they get to know about my abilities, they will do everything in their power to kill me.’
Edgar rubbed his temples and resisted the urge to sleep on the spot.
He took out all the Nightmare Stones he had right now and placed them in front of him.
He had 29 stones from last night excluding the 2 he used to keep the ’Unbroken Fire’ going.
He got 5 from the Yamhad Clan, bringing the total to 34.
’Once again, I have a lot of stones.’
Edgar drew in a deep breath and separated fifteen of them.
He closed his eyes and willed to upgrade the fortress to Level 2.
The stones in front of him began to melt. A milky white liquid poured out of them and suspended itself in the air.
Once again, a screen appeared in front of his eyes, providing him with three different options.
======
1⟩ Increase the size of the fortress to 30 metres.
2⟩ Enhance the power of the building and increase the damage against Nightmares.
3⟩ Decrease the consumption of Nightmare Stones.
======
Edgar rubbed his chin as he looked at the three options in front of him.
All three of them looked tempting enough that he wondered if he could use all of them.
’I wonder how the Builders of this world decide which path to choose?’
Unlike him, who had a system to guide him, the rest of them were walking in darkness.
’Without a proper path, perhaps they just randomly choose one of the paths?’
Edgar quickly pulled back his thoughts and looked at the three options again.
He eliminated the first option as he wasn’t interested in increasing the land mass right now.
After upgrading, the fortress would be 20 metres in size. An additional 10 wouldn’t do much for now.
He wanted to go with the second option but, on second thought, decided against it.
The more power the building had, the faster it would consume Nightmare Stones.
After debating for a while, he chose the power-saving mode.
’It might not mean much right now but it will definitely help me later.’
Taking in a deep breath, Edgar willed the third option.
The white liquid moved in the air and merged with the fortress.
Edgar quickly walked out of the room to look at the Level 2 Fortress.
