Chapter 472: Chapter 209: Consciousness Manipulation, Stopping at a Touch
A phantom image of the Cauliflower Snake appeared once more inside his Dantian.
The Wind and Wave Power wrapped around the Cauliflower Snake, making it spiral and dance within his Dantian.
With a thought, Chu Lingguang acted.
He made the Wind and Wave Power in his Dantian merge with the Cauliflower Snake.
"HISS HISS!"
The Cauliflower Snake struggled.
"CRACK!"
Its tail whipped out.
A streak of white light whistled and struck the Old Kui Tree, peeling the bark off at the point of impact.
"PUFF!"
The Cauliflower Snake rolled on the ground.
With another puff, its body exploded, turning into a mist of blood.
"So the Wind and Wave Power in my Dantian is meant to be used on the targets of my Consciousness Manipulation. It can either boost their power or crush them to death."
Chu Lingguang said in surprise.
When a target was under his Consciousness Manipulation, he could make the Wind and Wave Power in his Dantian resonate with it. This allowed the target to wield the Wind and Wave Power and help him slay his enemies.
He could also use that same Wind and Wave Power to obliterate them.
’The Dantian’s power is truly mysterious. I wonder what level these two powers will reach if they continue to evolve?’
Chu Lingguang thought to himself.
He finally understood why two different powers had appeared in his Dantian at the same time. The Consciousness Manipulation Power and the Wind and Wave Power complemented each other. He could use Consciousness Manipulation to control a target, bestow the Wind and Wave Power upon it to enhance its combat strength, or use that same power to kill it.
And throughout this process, he only needed to use a small fraction of his Consciousness Power.
’If Guer Khan weren’t dead and I ran into him in the mountains, I could manipulate the beasts in the forest. I could use a Demon Beast’s body, channeling the Wind and Wave Power through it to kill him.’
’However, trying to kill an expert at the peak of Qi Sea Perfection through Consciousness Manipulation... I’m still far too weak to do that now.’
’But as long as these two powers continue to evolve, there will come a day when I can.’
Chu Lingguang said confidently.
Having figured out the purpose of the two powers in his Dantian, Chu Lingguang felt a great sense of relief. He wasn’t sure if his theory was perfectly accurate, but he reckoned it was close enough. Even if there were still some things he didn’t understand, he at least knew how to use these two powers.
Now he didn’t need to get hung up on the matter any longer and could wait for the Martial Arts Examination with peace of mind.
「Early the next morning.」
Yang Shaorong made a rare visit back. After eating a meal with his master and junior brothers, he told Guo Wei as he was about to leave, "Master, the Governor wishes to see my junior brother."
"When?"
Guo Wei asked.
"Tonight."
Yang Shaorong replied.
"Alright. Lin Guang, prepare some gifts. You’ll go see the Governor tonight."
Guo Wei said after a moment of thought.
"Yes."
Chu Lingguang nodded.
The Governor of Qiling Prefecture was named Zhang Tao.
During his fight with Samba, Zhang Tao had been worried that he would disgrace Qiling Prefecture’s name. The Governor had specially sent Wang Chao to give him a Frenzy Pill, hoping to help him defeat Samba. But because of its side effects, Guo Wei had sternly refused it.
’Why does he want to see me tonight?’
However, the Provincial Examination and the Martial Arts Examination were important for the political achievements of every prefectural governor. Every candidate who made it onto the list could add to their record.
With the Martial Arts Examination just around the corner, Zhang Tao would have no reason to make things difficult for him.
Therefore, Chu Lingguang didn’t feel any particular pressure.
Following Guo Wei’s instructions, he prepared a few small gifts and arrived at the Governor’s Mansion that evening as scheduled. When the guards learned he was Chu Lingguang, they led him to a small courtyard.
Zhang Tao was the Governor and Yang Shaorong’s superior. The Governor’s Mansion was magnificent and luxurious, brightly lit with lanterns. Just as he sat down in the courtyard, a dozen or so maidservants entered, bringing with them flower-infused wine, fruit, and various dishes.
These maidservants were all beautiful and radiant, clearly well-trained.
"Young Master, please have some tea."
A maidservant placed a cup of tea on the table, studying him with curiosity.
"Thank you!"
Chu Lingguang smiled faintly.
The maidservant was taken aback.
In the Great Yuan Dynasty, the lines between the noble and the lowly were distinct. Chu Lingguang was the top ranker of South City and a Martial Scholar about to participate in the Provincial Examination, yet he actually said "thank you" to a servant.
She and the other maidservants were used to serving people. Everyone who entered the Governor’s Mansion was a high-ranking official or a member of the nobility. Even those without official titles would simply ignore them.
This was the first time anyone had ever said "thank you" to her.
"I’ll be waiting outside the door. Please feel free to call if you need anything, Young Master."
"Alright."
Chu Lingguang nodded again.
The maidservant, feeling flattered and a little overwhelmed, smiled and walked out the door.
A quarter of an hour later, Chu Lingguang had finished his tea, but Zhang Tao still hadn’t arrived. The maidservant brought him a fresh pot. He was, after all, the head of the Governor’s Mansion, a man of high status and great power. It was normal to be delayed for a moment or even a couple of hours. Chu Lingguang remained calm and patient, waiting without any sign of frustration.
Still, it was his first time in the Governor’s Mansion, and Chu Lingguang was exceptionally curious about what level of experts resided there. He was tempted to release a Spiritual Sense Fluctuation to probe the area. But he ultimately dismissed the idea. Prying around so recklessly was an offensive act, and Chu Lingguang didn’t believe his Sea of Consciousness Power was strong enough to go completely undetected, especially not from Zhang Tao himself.
He remembered Guo Wei’s teaching: listen more, observe more, and speak less.
So, he relied solely on his Perception Power to sense his surroundings.
At that moment, Chu Lingguang’s brows furrowed slightly.
Most of the maidservants were waiting outside, but a few were still bustling about within the small courtyard. One of them seemed distracted, her work half-hearted as she secretly kept glancing at him.
At first, he thought she was just curious. But with his powerful Perception Power, Chu Lingguang discovered that this maidservant was actually a Qi Sea Realm expert.
The poor study literature; the rich practice martial arts.
How could a woman at the Qi Sea Realm possibly be a maidservant? Even for the Governor’s Mansion, wasn’t that an incredible waste of talent?
What’s more, she was an expert at the peak of Qi Sea Perfection.
