Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Bird Flies and Leopard Jumps, a Shattered Bromance
"Que Feiling?"
Jiang Qingli froze.
But Qin Muye reacted faster. The moment the person approached, he slammed the screen face down and turned his head to demand, "Is this any of your business?"
His view was filled with two pairs of military boots. Que Feiling’s voice was a little sheepish. "I was just saying hi..."
Qin Muye let out a heavy, cold snort. But remembering Jiang Qingli was still there and not wanting to worry her, he took a deep breath, flipped the screen back over, and said, suppressing his anger, "I’ll call you when I get back to my dorm, okay?"
Jiang Qingli nodded. "Okay, I’ll wait for you."
The video on the other end went dark, and Jiang Qingli saw her own reflection and her slightly furrowed brow.
Although it was only for a few seconds, Jiang Qingli had still seen the injuries on Que Feiling’s face. They were even worse than Qin Muye’s, looking as if a paint palette had been overturned on him. His handsome face was a patchwork of black and blue, with a smear of red at the corner of his mouth.
’Do Mutant Beasts just aim for the face these days?’
’Or... did those two get in a fight?’
The moment the call ended, Qin Muye’s face darkened instantly, and he shot a cold glare at Que Feiling beside him.
Que Feiling subconsciously touched a wound on his face and tried to reason with him. "Buddy, sparring is one thing, but let’s not worry the female master. I’ve got some medicine here..."
Before he could even pull the medicine from his pocket, Qin Muye cut him off.
"Who the hell is your buddy!" Qin Muye’s face twisted in fury. "A damn bird like you who tries to steal my girl is worthy of that?! Get lost!"
Just looking at Que Feiling made him want to start swinging again, but he was afraid that if he was late, some other shameless male would take advantage of the opportunity to call her. He forced himself to swallow his anger.
’I’ll teach this red-headed little bastard a lesson next time.’
Qin Muye turned and stalked away. His ferocious demeanor startled a few passersby, whose gazes darted back and forth between the two men’s faces.
Que Feiling heaved a long sigh, feeling frustrated and wronged.
He had traveled day and night to get to the Lower District, happy the whole way because he’d been assigned to the same area as Qin Muye. He thought their friendship as Beast Husbands would surely deepen as they fought side-by-side.
As soon as he landed, Que Feiling had sincerely brought a super-rare, pigeon-egg-sized diamond to show goodwill to his "buddy," hoping to learn more about Jiang Qingli.
Who would have known that the moment he arrived at the sparring grounds, he’d be met with Qin Muye’s fist slamming viciously into his face.
Before he could even process what was happening, another fist landed.
At first, Que Feiling thought that Qin Muye just wanted to spar for a few rounds since they hadn’t fought in a long time.
But as Qin Muye’s attacks grew more and more vicious, with every move seeming aimed at taking his bird life, Que Feiling finally sensed something was wrong and hurriedly asked what was going on.
Qin Muye gritted his teeth. "You have the fucking nerve to ask?! I knew you were no good! How dare you try to steal my girl!"
Que Feiling was completely stunned. "What do you mean? Steal your girl? Are you saying you and Miss Jiang—I... I didn’t do anything like that!"
He felt incredibly wronged. "Didn’t you know all about it? You even gave me advice! Aren’t we buddies?!"
"Fuck!" Qin Muye snarled, his eyes bloodshot. "Still pretending? If you hadn’t used Qin Shu as an excuse, I never would have believed you! I don’t have buddies who try to steal my girl!"
After saying this, as if unable to accept his own blind trust and hating Que Feiling’s deception even more, he grabbed the other man’s collar and threw another punch.
As the fist landed, Que Feiling had no time to dwell on this bizarre misunderstanding and began to brawl with him.
Fortunately, the use of Superpowers against one another was forbidden within the military district, so no lives were at risk.
Still, the two High Level males had a solid, half-hour-long brawl. Someone reported the incident to a superior, but no one dared to intervene.
It wasn’t until Qin Muye’s alarm went off that he left with a cold sneer and a parting shot: "I’ll deal with you next time." Then he straightened his collar and walked off.
In the military district, all High Level males were assigned single rooms. As it happened, Qin Muye and Que Feiling were neighbors.
As Qin Muye opened his door, Que Feiling opened his too, poking his head out and asking tentatively, "Buddy? You cooled off yet?"
’Cooled off my ass.’
Qin Muye raised an eyebrow, gave him the middle finger, and slammed the door with a deafening CRASH.
Que Feiling: "..."
Back in his dorm, Que Feiling frustratedly recounted the incident to his sister, who had called him.
On the other end of the line, Que Qingqiong laughed so hard she was nearly out of breath. "Oh my god, you two are so... so stupid! Bwahahahaha!"
Que Feiling was both angry and annoyed. "Sis!"
Que Zhiyu, who was nearby, comforted him. "It’s alright, Xiao Ling. Your aunt just did a divination for you. The outcome for you and Miss Jiang is good! It’s just that there will be some ups and downs along the way!"
"Auntie, you didn’t have to say that last part," Que Qingqiong said before looking at her brother. "He may have a bad temper, but he’s not a bad person. He won’t go snitching to Jiang Qingli, don’t worry."
Of course, Que Feiling knew that. Qin Muye was very concerned with his image and would never let Jiang Qingli know he’d done something so stupid.
But Que Feiling and Qin Muye had just been assigned to the same squad today. They would start working together next week, and in the future, they would have to serve their female master together. They’d be seeing each other constantly...
They had finally managed to become buddies and should have had a harmonious relationship. But now, they weren’t just mortal enemies, they were love rivals.
’How am I supposed to live like this!’
Que Feiling grabbed at his red hair, fell back onto the bed, and let out an anguished groan.
"Sigh..."
"What are you sighing about?"
The call had just connected, and the first thing Jiang Qingli heard was a sigh.
She was lying amidst her blankets as she questioned the young man on the other end.
Qin Muye hadn’t expected the crappy network in the Lower District to connect so quickly, allowing her to hear his sigh.
After a pause, the Prince spoke stiffly. "Just been too busy lately. It’s annoying."
"Annoyed, yet you still have time to get into fights?" Jiang Qingli said suddenly.
"Did that bastard snitch on me?" Qin Muye’s eyes narrowed warily, sparks of fire flaring in them again, as if he would charge next door and roast Que Feiling alive if Jiang Qingli so much as nodded.
"So you did fight." Once she was sure, Jiang Qingli shot up from her bed, looking furious. "Qin Muye!"
The snow leopard ears on the silver-haired young man’s head trembled and drooped guiltily to the sides, though his tone remained stiff. "Just looking at him annoys me."
"So you just fight him?" Jiang Qingli was getting genuinely angry now. "You have a mission tomorrow. What are you going to do if you’re covered in injuries? It looks painful just looking at you."
"It’s like an itch, it doesn’t hurt at all!" Qin Muye didn’t forget to put the other guy down. "I’m way stronger than him!"
After he said that, he heard a cold laugh, and Qin Muye’s bluster instantly deflated.
His snow leopard tail patted the surface of the bed. The Prince, who had been so arrogant just a second ago, obediently admitted his mistake. "...I was wrong."
"And what were you wrong about?"
The young man ground his canines. "I should have beaten him until he was paralyzed back in the First District!"
Jiang Qingli: "..."
Seeing her speechless expression, Qin Muye gave a low cough and looked away. "...I get it. I won’t beat him up for a while."
He had just been so furious.
’Thinking about it now, if Jiang Qingli hadn’t called, the way we were fighting really could have gotten serious. Even if I used a healing pod tonight, it might still affect the mission. And if I got seriously injured, she would worry about me again...’
Qin Muye lowered his head, his tail giving an embarrassed little wag, a clear sign of apology.
He braced himself for a scolding from Jiang Qingli, but unexpectedly, she just sized him up for a moment and asked:
"Who won?"
