Chapter 59: [Weekly Bonus Chapter 3/6] Step 59 to Greatness: Eating Good Leads To Better Ideas
After cleaning themselves up, the group slipped into their attire and gathered around the warm fire pit for dinner.
Since Hannah only had a bikini and had forgotten to bring her clothes over, Adrian gave her a wolf pelt to use as a blanket of sorts. After all, the nights there often got chilly.
The crackling flames cast a golden glow over everyone as they roasted fresh boar skewers and nibbled on strips of smoked chicken from the new smokehouse.
Adrian took a bite of the boar meat and nodded like he had tasted heaven.
"This is way better than wolf meat, heck, even better than the chicken! Sera—I mean, Seraphine, you should make those pots quickly! I can’t wait to have them with some salt. At least that would improve the taste a bit."
"Anything for you, master~"
Adrian just smiled awkwardly and turned to put some more food in Amika’s leaf.
"Eat more," he said. "You’re now eating for two people, not just yourself. Also, here, take my berries too. I don’t want them."
Amika knew Adrian was lying. Apart from the chicken, he had often munched those sweet and sour wild berries. But just because she also liked them, he was giving them all to her.
The other women saw it too and smiled inwardly. Partially because they were happy to see Amika happy and partially because they were imagining themselves in her position.
Meanwhile, Mika tore off a piece and chewed it thoroughly. Instantly her eyes widened in surprise, and she wolfed the entire boar skewer down in one go.
"The fat on the boar makes it taste richer. Wolf meat always feels even after pouring fat on it..."
"Meh, the smoked chicken is still my favorite!" Seraphine chimed in.
As she did, Rixxa couldn’t help but point out the obvious.
"How can you understand us sometimes and you can’t the other times, wanderer?"
Seraphine looked at Adrian as if he would answer for her. Instead, he deliberately ignored the question and kept piling on food for Amika.
"You can say... I have two minds. One is timid, and the other is rowdy! The rowdy side likes the master a lot, so I learned the language to talk with him!"
Adrian choked on the tiniest piece of meat at her words. Honestly, her talent for saying the oddest, most cringiest shit with a straight face was astounding to Adrian.
"Mmm... This is so good! I haven’t had properly cooked meat in days," Hannah hummed, eating the boar meat in tiny bites. "Ah, this chicken strip isn’t any worse. I saw a salt quarry, so why aren’t you salting the meat yet, sir?" freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Adrian nudged Seraphine to answer her, so she explained about the situation with the impure salt and lack of utensils to process it.
Upon hearing the reason, Hannah got lost in thought while chewing on the meat. Suddenly, she perked up and swallowed whatever was inside her mouth.
"Wait... why don’t you use coconut shells?" she asked, looking at Seraphine and Adrian.
Hannah dropped the skewer and got excited as she could contribute to her new home so quickly.
"You know everything in this world is oversized, right? A single coconut here is almost twice the size of a human head! Even if we can’t produce salt in huge batches right away, we could still boil brine in the shells!"
She continued, "Besides, they are natural containers and could be reused a few times before discarding. That way we could make enough purified salt to properly cure all this meat and use it as normal seasoning every day."
Both Adrian and Seraphine looked like they had an epiphany. But the excitement only lasted a couple of seconds.
After all, the forest was vast and full of dangers. Where were they supposed to find these coconut trees? Even if Adrian sent Huginn to look for them, the trees might not be in suitable locations to get them.
Hannah, as if sensing their thoughts, smiled and cheekily pointed a thumb at herself.
"Did you already forget about my class?" she grinned, fishing out another crystal from her inventory. "I saw some massive coconut trees near the stream when I was exploring a few days ago and marked their location. We can move there anytime you like!"
Only when Hannah mentioned it did Adrian realize that he had never inquired about her class. So, he had Seraphine ask Hannah about her class.
"My class is Crystal Forger," she explained proudly. "I can create different kinds of crystals using materials and exp. The teleportation crystal we used earlier was one I made."
She continued blabbering on, "I can also make storage crystals, light crystals, and even small explosive ones if I have the right ingredients. But that’s about all the types of crystals I can make."
He leaned back, surprised. Given her absurd good luck, he had assumed it was a class-related perk, but that wasn’t the case. Hannah was simply born with ridiculous luck on top of having a very useful production class.
"That’s actually a really strong class," Adrian mumbled to himself. "It could be incredibly valuable for the settlement."
Seraphine relayed his thoughts, and Hannah blushed, looking both happy and a little embarrassed.
"I’m glad I can contribute," she whispered, poking the ground with the skewer. "But there are obvious limitations to it."
"Like, I can only make teleport crystals to teleport us somewhere I have been physically or know the exact coordinates of, and each crystal can only be used twice, one-way each time." ƒrēewebnovel.com
Man... she sure likes to talk a lot.
Adrian thought, shaking his head.
Having a chatterbox in the tribe wasn’t bad. At least, Hannah would make things lively with her constant urge to speak.
"It feels weird that until yesterday, I used to forage in this really nice orchard near the stream," she said. "It had so many fruits and berries! I would fill up my inventory, then use a teleportation crystal to go straight back to my shelter without any issues."
She took another bite before continuing.
"It’s a shame this stupid boar appeared there and claimed the orchard as its own! I used the crystal to escape, but the little boars must have traced my scent or something and started attacking my fence in the middle of the night."
Suddenly Hannah raised a fresh skewer in the air and yelled at the top of her lungs.
"Dumbass boar! Guess what? I’m eating your little ones! Haha!"
As she said that, something clicked in his mind. Mika had said the same thing: that a boar had taken over the orchard she foraged from, and both the orchards close to the stream.
It would be one hell of a coincidence if both Mika and Hannah were talking about the same place! And even if it wasn’t, wouldn’t it mean he had the location of two alpha-grade creatures?
He needed to kill just two Alpha-grade creatures for his advancement.
Instead of talking via Seraphine, Adrian directly sent Hannah a text.
"Yes! I marked it before the big boar took over," Hannah replied. "I still have the crystal for that location. Why? Don’t tell me you want to kill it!?"
Adrian didn’t say anything, just kept smiling.
