Chapter 68: Chapter 68: All Members Evil Fallen

(You didn’t expect this, did you? I still have one more update today!)

"If we use the Traction Disc, we could indeed reach this area, but the Traction Disc must be used in order, and I can only go to the areas arranged by Cain one by one before proceeding to this one. If we really do that, Yan Jiu is likely to have turned into an Evil Fallen already."

"This line of thought is wrong. I have fallen into a trap."

Bai Wu quickly overturned his own idea, but he felt that he was on the verge of uncovering the truth, just needing to lift the last layer of gauze to solve the puzzle.

However, the truth behind this thin veil might be something earth-shattering.

"I need to recall the details once more. The girl’s emotions could be problematic, and she is likely to turn into an Evil Fallen once she leaves the tower."

"Under the bewitchment of some lunatic, she might actually want to become one. But from her diary entries, she seems to be doubtful of this person."

"And she left that smiley face symbol on the mirror to draw attention to this sequence of numbers, but why be so covert if it was a cry for help?"

"Could it be related to a scandal with some high-profile individual on the fifth level?"

"If it were a cry for help, the more straightforward, the better; therefore, this isn’t a plea for help, perhaps it’s a commission?"

Within the case, is there another case interwoven?

So far, Bai Wu has no solid evidence to support his deductions. He still couldn’t comprehend how to reach a zone with an invalid code without using the Traction Disc.

"Brother Bai, what do you think? Any leads?" Ming Che asked.

Bai Wu nodded, then shook his head:

"There’s one crucial aspect that I haven’t figured out yet, but I think I might know Miss Yan Jiu’s whereabouts."

"Where did she go?"

"Outside the tower."

Ming Che’s expression turned grim:

"Doesn’t that mean the case can’t be solved?"

"No, whether the case can be solved or not, we still need to confirm one last thing."

"How will you confirm it?"

"I found the code for the area outside the tower. If it’s still accessible, then there’s a high chance I can find clues about Miss Yan Jiu. But this area could be a blue zone or even... a more dangerous one. I might need assistance, and Wu Jiu is the most suitable."

Bai Wu looked at Ming Che with a straightforward implication.

If you want to solve the case, then you must join me in taking the risk. Otherwise, I could only ask someone from the Investigation Corps to accompany me. For my own survival, it makes the most sense to choose Wu Jiu, the strongest in the High Tower, to be with me.

Ming Che was not slow-witted and quickly realized something:

"This painting has been here for a while now, did you find the code through this painting?"

"Exactly. I understand Captain Ming’s doubts, the regional code might have already expired, and we may not be able to enter at all. I cannot answer this question now. I can only assume that the code has not expired."

"Assume? I don’t quite understand."

Ming Che couldn’t keep up with Bai Wu’s line of thinking, and Bai Wu didn’t explain further, instead saying:

"There’s no time to lose, I need to leave the tower, at least to try. If this code is valid, then I will definitely be able to solve this case; if not, it means I was wrong in my judgment."

"Outside the tower is full of danger, are you so sure that you can come back?"

"No guarantees, but if we from the Investigation Corps don’t do these kinds of investigations outside the tower, then who will?"

Ming Che fell silent.

His words carried a bit of sarcasm directed at the Garrison Corps, but unexpectedly, Ming Che was not angered. On the contrary, his impression of Bai Wu improved.

He had originally thought Bai Wu only shared some common interests with him, as well as a clever mind.

But now it seemed that Bai Wu also had considerable courage.

The biggest difference between the Gao Ta Town Garrison Corps and the Investigation Corps is that the Investigation Corps does not fear leaving the tower.

After some deliberation, Ming Che shook his head and said:

"I am a businessman, I cannot leave the tower. I can only pray for one thing, that you, Brother Bai, can come back alive, and that... you find the clues before the Investigation Corps. I consider you one of our own."

Bai Wu smiled and said:

"I also wish to work with Captain Ming. Bringing the brute Wu Jiu along is just having an extra bodyguard; he’s not too sharp upstairs."

Ming Che couldn’t agree with this statement but did think that Wu Jiu indeed wasn’t as clever as Bai Wu.

After witnessing the standards of the Asylum, Bai Wu realized something—

Yan Jiu harbored a certain secret that would prevent her from ever leaving the Asylum.

The most striking characteristic about Yan Jiu was her lack of emotion and her enigmatic yearning for what lay beyond the High Tower.

Bai Wu faintly felt that Yan Jiu might have some connection to a certain area outside the tower.

As for the biggest difficulty of the case, it lay in whether the regional code left by Yan Jiu was still valid, and if not, why?

Without an answer, Bai Wu could only use the most common method of logical deduction to break the impasse.

Bai Wu soon took his leave of Ming Che.

In truth, Ming Che could have arranged for a few soldiers from the Garrison Corps to accompany him, but after considering it, he decided it wasn’t necessary.

For one thing, these men were neither as skilled nor as intelligent as Wu Jiu, and for another, allowing Bai Wu to act freely exhibited enough trust.

Moreover... he leaned towards the idea that this was Bai Wu’s wishful thinking. The painting had been created by Yan Jiu a very long time ago.

If Yan Jiu had visited the area, or if someone else had, then the code would have lost its purpose long ago.

So Ming Che wasn’t too worried.

...

...

After leaving Ming Che’s Married Women’s Manor, Bai Wu went straight back to the Asylum and shared his findings with Wu Jiu.

Wu Jiu, like Ming Che, noticed the issue with codes older than three days preventing access to the areas.

But here lay the difference between Wu Jiu and Ming Che.

Wu Jiu, placing more trust in Bai Wu’s judgment than in his own doubts, quickly organized Lin Wurou and Ye Weiming, alongside Liu Mu who had come to assist.

He also cautioned Liu Mu to be wary of the Tower God Society.

After ensuring everything was in order, Wu Jiu and Bai Wu then descended to the lower level.

In the huge elevator, Bai Wu asked a question:

"Captain, what if we find Yan Jiu’s whereabouts but in doing so, we uncover a scandal concerning a big shot on the fifth level... What would happen?"

"Nothing will happen. The fifth level is also known as the Ruler’s Tier. You might offend one big shot, but you’ll certainly gain the favor of another."

Bai Wu understood, it was a power balance.

"The Garrison Corps and our Investigation Corps may seem at odds, but above the Garrison and our Investigation leaders, both have common enemies. Since someone has ordered this investigation, it means both Corps will do everything possible to uncover the truth."

Patting Bai Wu’s shoulder, Wu Jiu said:

"Besides, if any issues arise, it won’t be on you, an investigator, to bear the responsibility. I’ll take the fall."

Bai Wu felt relieved; Dwarf was truly reliable.

The two of them discussed details of the case and were soon at the Lower East Square.

Stelae of different colors represented randomized teleportation to different colored areas.

However, if one possessed a regional code, as long as it had not expired, one would go to a specific area.

Even a white stele could grant access to a blue area, and vice versa.

When Bai Wu entered the code, he too worried it might indeed have expired and that everything was a misjudgment on his part.

But soon... the problem that he and Wu Jiu worried about shifted to something else.

The code had not expired, but normally, when the white stele teleported someone, white light was to be expected. This time, however, both Wu Jiu and Bai Wu were engulfed in a purple glow.

As consciousness once again sank into murkiness, surrounded by a thick purple mist, when the mist dissipated and clarity returned, Bai Wu heard a voice:

"Ladies and gentlemen, due to air currents affecting our route, the airplane is experiencing significant turbulence. Please remain seated with your seatbelt fastened. Restroom facilities will be closed for the time being. Thank you for your cooperation." freewebnσvel.cѳm

Surrounded by the purple light, Bai Wu wasn’t worried, as the vast previous area and the presence of Dwarf meant self-preservation wouldn’t be a problem.

But this time... he had never imagined the level of danger within the purple area could be so real.

The area he was in was not vast; in fact, it was extremely cramped compared to before.

He was on a passenger plane, unaware of the departure point, the destination, or whether Yan Jiu was in this area.

Looking around, Bai Wu saw that all the passengers on the plane—

were Evil Fallen.
