Chapter 59: Chapter 59: First Glimpse into the Asylum

Upon entering the Noble Spirit Rehabilitation Center’s main gate, the first thing is a courtyard designed for some patients to take a stroll in.

There’s even a pavilion within the courtyard, tastefully arranged, as if this place is not an asylum but someone’s manor.

However, there aren’t many people in the courtyard; a few elderly individuals are sitting in wheelchairs or on the stone benches of the pavilion, watching Bai Wu and his group.

Outside the courtyard is the floor where medical staff have their offices, and it’s only by passing through these floors that one can see the truest part of the Asylum—

A high wall suddenly looms before Bai Wu and his entourage, a peculiar structure that encloses an area, resembling a prison to some extent.

"It seems this asylum has quite a background; many people are imprisoned here," Bai Wu remarked to Wu Jiu.

Wu Jiu nodded:

"If you held a high position and you had a political opponent or a special sacrificial pawn that you couldn’t conveniently kill, it would be possible to label them as mad and lock them away in an asylum from which they can’t escape."

Bai Wu thought of a spy thriller from his previous life where an organization known as the KGB often engaged in such practices.

"So this hospital houses quite a few important figures?"

"One could say former important figures."

To enter inside the high wall, the only way is through a sealed iron gate, the sole entry and exit point of the entire Asylum.

At the iron gate, there’s just a small opening for identity verification.

After Wu Jiu and the others showed their identification, the iron gate slowly opened about thirty seconds later.

Bai Wu’s gaze remained on the high wall:

[A wall as thick as 6.2 meters, no matter how furious you are, you can’t penetrate it.]

It’s interesting that instead of describing how tall the wall is, the description is about how thick it is... Bai Wu suddenly felt like he was entering the territory outside the Tower for investigation.

His thoughts shifted rapidly.

"If the defensive standards of this asylum are so high... then the daughter of that important figure who was abducted, must be connected to this high wall and iron gate, which is quite intriguing."

After passing through the high wall, Wu Jiu whispered:

"Starting now, we’re all under surveillance."

Bai Wu was unconcerned; this was a good opportunity to test the Talent Sequence in certain places and besides:

"Being under surveillance can actually be a good thing, as long as your acting is good enough, you can achieve unexpected results."

When Bai Wu said this, he appeared suave, quite unlike his usual persona.

Wu Jiu frowned; although Bai Wu had managed to intimidate Ding Tai Sheng just now, even at that moment, Bai Wu had seemed like a bit of a ruffian.

Once past the high wall, they came upon another courtyard, roughly the size of a basketball court, but it was less presentable than the outer courtyard and much livelier too.

In the not-so-large courtyard, some people were playing chess, but the pieces on the board didn’t form any game pattern; instead, they made up a puzzle. Others were reading a book, but holding it upside down, and some drooled and smiled stupidly as they watched Wu Jiu and Bai Wu.

Bai Wu looked at these people, unable to find a single doctor, and realized these people weren’t pretending to be mad—they were genuinely mad.

At that moment, a doctor approached them and demanded:

"Stop! Which building’s patients are you? I don’t recall ever seeing you!"

Wu Jiu was about to explain, but Bai Wu waved his hand to stop him and looked at the doctor with a rascally grin.

"Zheng Duoxi, get back in there! How many times have I told you, you’re not allowed to steal the director’s clothes?"

A nurse seized the doctor, appearing quite violent.

"Let go! I’m a doctor! I’m a doctor! Help! The patients are rebelling!" Zheng Duoxi yelled out loud.

Wu Jiu then realized that this was a patient who had stolen a doctor’s clothes.

It turns out that there’s no shortage of real madmen in this Asylum.

After settling the patient, the nurse came out, looking slightly weary. She approached Wu Jiu and the others and asked,

"Sorry about the disturbance just now, the doctor had to step out for a bit. And who might you be?"

"We’re from the Investigation Corps, tasked with investigating Miss Yan’s disappearance,"

Wu Jiu showed his credentials while Bai Wu stared at the nurse with a rather lecherous gaze.

"Really huge," he commented unabashedly, focusing on a particular area.

Lin Wurou frowned in disgust, and Ye Weiming was a bit perplexed.

The nurse ignored Bai Wu and continued speaking to Wu Jiu,

"Oh, I see. Follow me, please. Her resting area is on the sixth floor."

The nurse began to lead the way.

As she turned to walk away, Bai Wu once again ogled the nurse’s behind, remarking without any shred of decency,

"Really perky."

Lin Wurou gave Bai Wu a disdainful glance, but Bai Wu was nonchalant, chatting sporadically with the nurse in the elevator as they ascended to the sixth floor.

It was just like something an old lecher would do.

Ye Weiming seemed to begin understanding something. Wu Jiu still wore his somber expression.

When the elevator reached the sixth floor and the nurse left due to other matters, Bai Wu looked as though he couldn’t bear to part with her, licking his lips,

"Who doesn’t like a nurse in white stockings?"

"Are you fucking brain-dead with lust or what?" Lin Wurou cursed.

Lin, being rather innocent, didn’t take Bai Wu’s behavior to heart as such scorn could add a touch of reality. Dwarf and Yezi had probably guessed his intentions by now.

Bai Wu began to survey the layout of the sixth floor, which had a total of twenty-two rooms.

Each room was four meters apart. He and Ye Weiming conducted a test, entering adjacent rooms and found that the soundproofing was excellent; it was almost impossible to hear what was being said in the room across.

The entire sixth floor was eerily empty. Of the twenty-two rooms, only three were occupied by patients.

The kidnapped target was named Yan Jiu.

It’s worth mentioning that Yan Jiu’s room was between 6-17 and 6-19, both of which were occupied.

In other words, there were originally four people on this floor; three lived together, while the last one was in 6-4, some distance away from the others.

"It’s good that our target has neighbors. Even though we have no surveillance footage, maybe we can get some information from the neighbors,"

Lin Wurou offered her suggestion.

Ye Weiming nodded and said,

"The nurse we met earlier might also know something. If we ask the patients and the staff of the Asylum, we’ll definitely uncover some leads, right?"

Wu Jiu looked towards Bai Wu with an expression as if to say, ’What do you think, Yuanfang?’

Bai Wu maintained his ruffian demeanor, shaking his head with a chuckle,

"Let me tell you something; then you’ll probably understand why the Garrison Corps is allowing us to investigate this Asylum."

"What is it?" Wu Jiu asked.

"The doctor named Zheng Duoxi who we saw on the ground floor, he’s a real doctor. However, the nurse who received us just now was actually an imposter, a patient pretending to be a nurse." freewёbnoνel.com

This revelation struck Bai Wu as he observed the building and Zheng Duoxi on the ground floor; a note popped up saying,

[There are no sane people in this building. There once was one, but later he turned insane as well. That person is right in front of you, being dragged away by a veteran nurse with a cosplay fetish.]

(Also, I will be a little late.)
