Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Starting in Hell

This certain Mou River City Zoo that Bai Wu briefly surveyed seemed to be nestled in a natural scenic area outside of the city.

The zoo was massive, covered with vast stretches of forest, and there was an extremely large man-made lake on the perimeter.

Unlike the Twisted Jungle, each area here was separated by iron fencing. And occasionally, one could see some old buildings for human habitation.

According to the remarks feedback from the buildings, all kinds of animals were inside, and entering would mean certain death.

Bai Wu scanned his surroundings, trying to gather as much information as possible.

He was flanked by grasslands and forests while he walked along a winding highway.

This was an area where grassland animals lived; they were confined on the other side of the iron fencing, on display for people driving by to admire.

As a child, Bai Wu had also visited the zoo with his father. He still remembered a strange comment his father had made at the time:

"We think we are more noble than animals, so we can eat them at will. To the animals, we are no different from gods. They can’t understand our world; all the god-eaters are kept in cages and bred, and the resources allocated to them differ based on their rarity. But perhaps one day, this captivity will fall upon us."

The strange comment from back then seemed oddly fitting now when Bai Wu thought about it.

Actually, wasn’t the High Tower just a big zoo?

Bai Wu’s father was a pervert, at least that was how Bai Wu saw him. Imitating his father had made it easy for him to make Elijah take his own life.

He had even considered the possibility that his father knew Cain. Could the world he lived in seven hundred years later be the scene he was looking at now?

But then, he shook his head. Having fought Cain twice, Bai Wu didn’t look down on Cain. On the contrary, he considered Cain an interesting opponent, but still felt...

That Cain’s rank was a notch below his father’s.

His footsteps were light. There were rest stops along the road from time to time, but they were all filled with Evil Fallen.

"The information given in the remarks... they refer to this place as ’People’s Garden.’ A zoo is where humans manage animals, so this so-called People’s Garden... could it be where animals manage humans?"

"It’s unlikely that a zoo’s staff would exceed seven hundred... so these seven hundred forty-four Evil Fallen, could they... all be animals? Can animals undergo Evil Fallen Transformation too?"

Bai Wu walked while pondering this exploration area.

"If they are animals... then, probably, my sharp tongue will be completely ineffective. And since Cain hasn’t set this place up, there won’t be various clues left behind intentionally. To find the puzzle piece of this area, I’d need to enter the houses and search for notes. Well, I’m just here to hang around, so it’s best not to go exploring."

A flock of vultures suddenly flew overhead in the sky, their shrill cries making him frown instinctively.

He couldn’t make out the details of the vultures with his sight, but watching them, Bai Wu felt as if he were seeing a squadron of fighter jets fly by.

The feedback provided in the remarks was also quite intriguing:

[Level three mutation, rare Mutation Entry: Mechanization. These oil-feeding animals like to travel in flocks. Rotten meat? That’s food for the old birds from seven hundred years ago. As the new birds of the new era, they are now fond of consuming engine oil.]

Meanwhile, in the area where Bai Wu was, on the left side of the iron fencing, what used to be the resting area for zebras and antelopes, oil started spraying out.

Some zoos use underground sprinklers to cool down animals on hot summer days.

But to Bai Wu’s astonishment, he smelled a strong scent of oil.

It was a little weird.

Then he saw something even more bizarre; he couldn’t see the condors in the sky clearly, but inside the fencing on this side, in the grassland, he could clearly see the herbivores, the zebras, and antelopes.

The zebras still had their black and white stripes, but the stripes in the white areas had a metallic sheen, and in the black areas, one could see electricity flowing.

The horns of the antelopes were extremely cyberpunk; their massive horns looked like they had strands of red neon lights hanging from them, the patterns on them resembled intricate integrated circuit boards, and their eyes glowed with a purple halo.

[They are all level three mutated Evil Fallen, with the rare Mutation Entry: Mechanization. I think you’ve already heard the engine’s roaring inside the zebras, seen the detailed electrical circuitry on the antelope’s horns. But they are not machines made by anyone... they are real, living creatures.]

Now Bai Wu knew what Mechanization was.

Different from the mutations of Evil Fallen humans, these animals... seemed to have become half-living, half-mechanical beings.

The blue areas were even more bizarre and twisted than the white areas, and Bai Wu understood a little bit more.

There was some mysterious force outside the tower causing mutations in humans; he had always thought it was some kind of radiation... leading to genetic mutations.

But now, it seems I oversimplified the world outside the tower.

"If the notes are telling the truth..." Bai Wu murmured, "it means that ’Evil Fallen Transformation’ represents something far more complex than I imagined."

The mechanized zebras and antelopes did not notice Bai Wu.

Bai Wu stood in the middle of the road, quietly observing.

"This is the first time I’ve seen mechanized Evil Fallen, so the most likely place to find information about mechanization would be in this area..."

"Everything I discovered about Evil Fallen at Ninth Hospital has been completely overturned! Those doctors definitely didn’t foresee that Evil Fallen Transformation... is not limited to genetic mutations!"

"Could finding information inside help me understand the true nature of Evil Fallen?"

An intense desire to explore made it hard for Bai Wu to hold back.

"But I’m just here to level up by idling, hold it in, hold it in, hold it in..."

It was like a tech geek suddenly seeing a string of mysterious code, unable to conceal the excitement within. freewebnσvel.cѳm

After taking three deep breaths, Bai Wu suppressed the inner desire and decided to continue searching for a safe hiding spot.

No matter how terrifying the negative statuses every four hours were, as long as the place was concealed, in theory, I’d be able to hang idly without any negative emotions.

It’s a natural advantage for leveling up.

The winding road seemed to have no end, but fortunately, due to the steep terrain of this scenic area, Bai Wu walked for about twenty minutes and found a cable car.

It was one that slid down from a high place to a lower one.

Despite being a 700-year-old device, thanks to the mysterious power of the world outside the tower, it had no issues with quality. Bai Wu couldn’t use the cable car to go upwards, but thinking that the more I see, the harder it would be to suppress the desire to explore, he hid inside the cable car.

The time that followed was just for slow idling.

At the very least, to set a new survival record for myself, to level up to tier two and experience the profound sensation Wang Shi described that comes with leveling up.

Bai Wu’s plans were sound, and indeed no Evil Fallen thought to check the cable car that had been searched countless times over the past seven hundred years.

To keep the live stream from being too boring, he took off the handcuffs as he walked into the cable car and put them into his space backpack.

And with that, the live stream was terminated.

This displeased the viewers who had seen the metal-wind Evil Fallen and they started urging Constantine to start streaming again.

Bai Wu had no intentions of live streaming himself just sitting around; that would be too uninteresting.

But four hours later...

He started streaming again, his face full of confusion, though the viewers couldn’t see it behind the mask.

[Negative Status, Warlust: If not in combat, a random negative attribute is acquired every twelve minutes.]

It was like a super backlash after two experiences of King of Fortune luck––first arriving in an extremely dangerous area with over seven hundred Evil Fallen.

Then being unable to hang idle; according to the description, if not being pursued or in combat with an Evil Fallen, the negative attributes that come every four hours will change to every twelve minutes. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Dwarf never pulled Warlust among his hundred plus negative attributes; how did it come to be on my first try?

Bai Wu stood up...

This truly was a hellish start; non-combat status meant not being sought after or hunted by Evil Fallen.

It meant that every twelve minutes, I must attract the attention of an Evil Fallen...

However, Bai Wu wasn’t too frustrated; just like the first time he was sent outside the tower by the casino people, the more difficult the environment, the more excited he became.

"I can’t be blamed for being unstable this time; it’s the heavens forcing me to explore."
