Chapter 321: Chapter 125: Confronting the Prison Guard Head-On

(As a Silver Alliance member, I can’t add more randomly, with a completion progress of 28/100.)

The prison’s cafeteria.

Rows of chairs and tables, just like those found in a university campus, but the cafeteria seemed very enclosed and quite fantastical.

When Bai Wu sat down, his plate already had food and drinking water on it.

Evil Fallen did not need to eat food. They absorbed human emotions, but even without human emotions, they would not die.

Weakness, for them, was a subjective feeling, which made them feel like they wanted to do something, but not doing so wouldn’t stop them from living.

However, in Shudu Prison, everything became strange, the desires of the prisoners seemed especially pronounced—the desire to eat, to rest, to be satisfied—

In general, these could be categorized as—the desire to survive.

Food wouldn’t rid them of the sensation of hunger, but it could temporarily prevent the hunger from intensifying.

In the plate, the dark substance was something Bai Wu couldn’t bring himself to eat just by looking at it. Nutritional meals were hard to stomach, but at least people knew to make them look appealing...

This substance, resembling a mass of spoiled sesame paste, was devoured deliciously by other Evil Fallen.

Although survival in the red zone was difficult and often undignified, Bai Wu still had his standards when it came to eating.

Since eating wouldn’t satiate him, just temporarily slowing the rate of increasing hunger, he decided not to eat at all.

The food of the prison guards was much tastier. These former prisoners, with a sort of twisted desire for revenge, took pleasure in watching these now ’good’ people eat unpalatable food in a ravenous manner, and this pleasure even surpassed their love for negative emotions.

"Would you like mine?"

Seeing Wen Tai next to him very hungry and eating greedily, Bai Wu offered his own food to Wen Tai.

"Can I really have it, quack?"

"I’m not hungry."

Not being hungry was, of course, temporary. These fellows were Evil Fallen, and Bai Wu was human. Hunger would weaken Bai Wu more severely, so he was well aware that if he didn’t eat, even with the help of Innate Force and a strong physique, he wouldn’t last many days.

"Thank you, quack!"

Wen Tai was indeed very hungry and didn’t stand on ceremony.

Bai Wu began to observe his surroundings. What he saw was a calm dining scene. The two factions weren’t staging any sort of prison sovereignty struggle like you’d see in the movies.

But just when he thought it would end like that, a sudden change occurred.

The level of Evil Fallen here was quite high, their regenerative abilities astonishing, and most had already recovered from injuries they had suffered a few days prior.

But in this prison, getting injured was common, as was the case right now. Six Eyes and Bullhead, two prison guards, appeared again, coming in front of Colt, the head of weapons.

"Yo, that nose healed up pretty fast. Would you say this is a nose or a mouth?"

Six Eyes pointed at Colt with his baton and said to Bullhead.

"Moo! This is definitely a mouth!"

"I say it’s a nose."

"Mouth!"

"Nose!"

"Mouth!"

...

About two people seemed to argue with each other for a few minutes before coming to an agreement, Six Eyes said:

"Whether it’s a nose or a mouth, why don’t we find someone who has eaten a person and test it?"

"Makes sense! Moo!"

This was naturally a duo act by the two of them. As Evil Fallen on the other side of Wen Tai lowered their head, Bai Wu noticed that at this moment, all the Evil Fallens had bowed their heads. Wen Tai had only been there for two days and had never seen such a scenario, still clueless, the Evil Fallen opposite of him reminded:

"You two, hurry up and lower your heads, don’t... don’t let it see you..."

"What’s happening quack..."

"Extra meal..." The Evil Fallen whispered softly to Bai Wu and Wen Tai with goodwill.

"Extra meal?" Bai Wu was still wondering what was about to happen, but as soon as he heard "extra meal," it seemed as if he suddenly understood and a bad feeling arose in his heart.

Weapon head Colt seemed to want to express something:

"Da da da da! Da da da da da da da!"

It spoke very fast and with urgency, a hint of panic in its voice, but the prison guards couldn’t understand it at all, except for Lu Yan, who mysteriously seemed to be able to translate for Colt as if he knew many languages.

Hidden inside the sleeve of his prison uniform, the Gatling finally revealed itself, aiming at the prison guards, who scoffed at it:

"Little buddy, better not point such dangerous things at me, I’m so scared, hahaha!"

The baton heavily smashed on Colt’s head, then Bullhead raised his baton in hand and slammed down hard on Colt’s "barrel."

Bang!

Bang!

The entire cafeteria trembled incessantly amid the striking sounds. But since the scene was difficult to damage, the tables were unharmed, what got damaged was Colt’s nose.

Black liquid flowed out from Colt’s body—it wasn’t purely a mechanical Evil Fallen but rather a semi-organic semi-mechanical being, as if it were blood or some oily substance spilling out continuously, making Colt look as though someone had smashed his head open.

However, according to the prison rules, the guards could cause a certain amount of harm to the handcuffed prisoners but couldn’t kill them.

Over many years, these guards had already mastered this degree of force.

Colt’s "nose" fell into the meal tray, and Six Eyes happily lifted the tray:

"Now it’s time for the extra meal! Hahaha, who will be so lucky this time?"

In fact, even before the new day had started, these guards had already planned that today was the day to discipline these faction leaders. They would humiliate the leaders of the two factions to make the prisoners of the prison understand the difference in status.

Such days were few, and even for people like Yuan Ye, Colt, and Qian Yixin, such experiences were rare, but every experience brought tremendous psychological trauma.

Bai Wu happened to catch up with one.

The guards pretended to scare people for a while, making the prisoners think that a random unlucky one would be chosen, when Six Eyes suddenly moved the tray with Colt’s "nose" in front of Yuan Ye.

"Tsk tsk, beautiful lady, I heard lions have good teeth. As such a lion, you must be able to swallow this effortlessly, right?"

Everything was just as Bai Wu had thought.

Though Yuan Ye did not get along with people like Colt, she was not to the extent of wanting to devour their flesh. She looked at the contents of the tray and said coldly:

"Aren’t you afraid of my revenge?"

"I know you’re tough in prison, most of these cute little ones listen to you, but it’s better you understand the gap in status between you and us."

All six eyes held a revolting sense of smugness and frivolity.

"Or are you saying, for the next few days, you want your buddies to also suffer this treatment? Hahahahaha..."

Six Eyes had a firm grasp of Yuan Ye’s temperament. This woman might not care about her own pain, being a tough character, but as long as she was in this prison, she still had humanity, even if there wasn’t much humanity left, there were still interests.

The baton pressed down on Yuan Ye’s wavy golden hair, inch by inch, bringing Yuan Ye’s face closer to Colt’s "nose."

Bullhead looked on, extremely excited.

Yuan Ye bit her teeth in resistance, but still, she was pressed down little by little by Six Eyes’ baton. Six Eyes said,

"Don’t think you can scare me, how long have you people been squatting here? You and that pistol-face, you’ll be sent to the second floor after a little while, hahaha, unless you can give up your humanity and be released as innocent."

Yuan Ye didn’t retort, because it was indeed the truth. Her threats were meaningless; even if she left this place, as an Evil Fallen, she couldn’t return here.

Humiliation rose within her. Although Bai Wu couldn’t see Yuan Ye’s face, he could feel that she must be grinding her teeth, her eyes red with struggle.

Those from the Evil Reform Faction had sacrificed some of their humanity, to a greater or lesser extent, to be able to survive longer. They were much stronger than the Pure Goodness Sect, but faced with the prison guards, they had no power to resist.

This was the suppression of the rules.

After watching for a while, Bai Wu could feel that Yuan Ye was on the brink of collapse. She couldn’t hold out much longer and would eventually consume part of the other Evil Fallen.

Outside the prison, such a situation was very normal, but in this prison, it was pure humiliation.

And so...

Bai Wu stood up.

When everyone was bowing their heads, shivering and daring not to resist, suddenly someone stood up. Although Bai Wu seemed very small compared to all sorts of Evil Fallen, at this moment, from the corner of her eye, Yuan Ye suddenly felt that Bai Wu’s body was glowing.

"The stuff on the plate looks pretty good, let me take a look?"

With a smile, Bai Wu looked at the guards with an even more mocking attitude than the guards themselves.

The baton pressing against the back of Yuan Ye’s head suddenly loosened, and Six Eyes exchanged a look with Bullhead, amused. This scene was indeed rare.

Yuan Ye suddenly raised her head, her eyes filled with disbelief as she looked at Bai Wu, then tinged with schadenfreude and indifference, but in her heart, she was grateful to Bai Wu.

Having stayed in this prison day after day, Nightmare Roulette had left her with very little humanity, only a tiny amount that she would rather die than not protect. This kind of righteous bravery was foolish in Yuan Ye’s eyes.

She had also warned her subordinates early on that if she were humiliated by the prison guards, no one from the Evil Reform Faction was to stand out.

She didn’t expect to be saved; in fact, those from the Evil Reform Faction had long understood that staying alive was the most important thing. Everyone wanted to survive with the little humanity they had left, so who would play the hero?

But when she was actually saved, Yuan Ye’s emotions were very complicated.

"Jing Wu!"

Six Eyes came in front of Bai Wu and slammed the muzzle full of murky liquid onto the table.

Seeing that Yuan Ye was out of danger, Bai Wu sat back down, while Wen Tai beside him trembled.

Bai Wu said,

"It’s me."

"Are you standing up for the lioness?"

"No, I just purely thought that this thing was quite rare. Now that I’ve had a look, my suggestion is that you better go back to patrolling, no need to flex your muscles here."

"You think with the crimes you committed, you can intimidate me?"

The performance of Bai Wu indeed intimidated several guards yesterday; they truly suspected Bai Wu was a reincarnated disaster star.

Listening to Six Eyes, Bai Wu understood that the Priest hadn’t told them about some things.

With a rather lazy tone, Bai Wu said,

"I am human."

"What’s wrong with humans?"

Many of the Evil Fallen stirred, while Yuan Ye, Qian Yixin, and Colt felt it was unbelievable. However, jail guards Six Eyes and Bullhead weren’t surprised, after all, this was not the first human to have come here, and those who did, were all very strong.

Bai Wu spoke out about the conclusions he made from his observations earlier that day:

"If these handcuffs were removed, I’d be able to kill the two of you within a minute."

His tone grew colder, yet it still maintained a hint of a lazy smile. This temperament made Bullhead feel a bit uneasy inside.

Six Eyes sneered:

"You also said ’if the handcuffs were removed.’ Among humans, indeed, there are some aberrations. You being able to come here suggests you’re certainly no simpleton, but in this place, I call the shots!"

No sooner had Six Eyes finished speaking than he moved to act, lifting his baton ready to smash it down on Bai Wu’s head. Under Prayle’s Eye, it was as if Bai Wu had already foreseen this scene. Before Six Eyes’s movement, he spoke calmly:

"What if, tonight, among Nightmare Roulette’s choices, I’m suddenly declared innocent?"

The baton hanging over Bai Wu’s head stopped, and Bai Wu raised his index finger slightly, flicking it away, still with a gentle tone:

"Ah, I was just thinking yesterday, why must I kill someone? If I kill someone, I leave this prison, how boring. I’m the kind of person who likes to play with others who share my temperament, but the people here are just so dull."

Bai Wu stood up, his aura astounding.

Faintly, Six Eyes thought he saw a beast bathed in holy light.

In that instant, it was as if their roles were reversed. Bai Wu continued, with an indifferent expression:

"There’s nothing interesting here, apart from the inverted rules; there’s nothing left to pique my interest. But I believe you’re not new to such threats; over that past seven hundred years, many Evil Fallen, after being humiliated, must have fiercely spat hard words at you, threatening to wipe out all of their humanity and leave this place for a chance at revenge."

"The first time you heard it, you might have been daunted, but later you realized, the Evil Fallen can’t really leave their areas, right? These innocently released fellows, they were all sent back to their original areas, they could only rage in vain."

As Bai Wu stepped closer, Six Eyes also realized what Bai Wu meant to say, yet he still stubbornly retorted:

"Isn’t... isn’t that right?"

Everyone was shocked to see this scene, the first time they saw a prisoner approaching while the jail guard backed away.

"Yes, but those rules were made for you poor bugs who couldn’t even enter High Tower seven hundred years ago, not for humans. Let me enlighten you with a rule, shall I? Humans, they are not restricted by areas."

This rule was known to the jail guards, because not long ago two Semi-Humans, a Semi-Evil Fallen, and two humans had come here.

"Me, I wasn’t captured by the prison, I came here on my own."

Bai Wu grabbed the lapel of Six Eyes’s blue prison guard uniform, where at that moment an actor’s self-control was manifested to the extreme.

He seemed like a madman who loved chaos and blood.

"I, sir, detest a boring life! Guess, just guess, will I be released as innocent tonight, and after how long will my lengthy criminal statement gain the additional charge of destroying the prison?"

The jail guards had great confidence in this prison, after all, it was supervised by a few distinguished individuals.

But they also knew their own limits; if it weren’t for the handcuffs restraining these prisoners, just Yuan Ye’s lion form alone would be enough to kill them with ease.

Six Eyes really wanted to say Bai Wu was bluffing, but... he could indeed feel Bai Wu was of human flesh and blood, yet he couldn’t sense even the slightest bit of fear from Bai Wu.

Emotions cannot lie; in other words, this madman... he truly was planning to leave the prison tonight! fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

For seven hundred years, after the prison rules had changed, no human had been incarcerated here, which meant the Evil Fallen, once they left, never returned.

But now there was a human, and who could guarantee this wasn’t the first ghost encountered on a long journey through the night?

Cold sweat broke out on Six Eyes’s forehead, and with a clatter, the baton in Six Eyes’s hand actually slipped. This sound was particularly jarring because before then, the cafeteria had been dead silent.

Lu Yan was so startled he almost wanted to shout out in admiration. He felt that Bai Wu’s tongue was even mightier than his perfect terms, his words more powerful in breaking defenses.
