Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Gathering of the Evil Fallen

The Evil Fallens headed to areas differentiated by their size; those with heights over fourteen meters would all go to the far east, and from east to west, the sizes of the Evil Fallens gradually diminished.

On the far west side, there was a path as wide as a palm, where one could find Evil Fallens the size of small spiders or mice, or even centipedes. At first glance, they were rather cute.

However, these Evil Fallens generally held higher ranks, with many at level six or seven. Bai Wu wondered if this might be the group of Dwarfs in the Realm of the Evil Fallen?

Bai Wu actually was quite interested in spending time in the area with the giant creatures; he had always been fond of massive beings since he was a child.

While others suffered from thalassophobia, he had what could be called thalassophilia, reveling in flipping through lengthy deep-sea illustrations until he came across an image of a gigantic monster.

Apart from the giant creatures, Bai Wu was also intrigued by the mechanical beings. While most animals in zoos had mutations at levels three or four, the mechanical beings here had plenty at levels five and six.

Their appearances were very cool, quite similar to Zagu, deemed the ride for true men. Apart from purely mechanical bodies, there were also some semi-mechanical ones with prosthetics.

Bai Wu guessed they might come from a region where the starting tier was purple.

Mechanical City?

All sorts of Evil Fallens had gathered, and Bai Wu was curious about the rank of the host of this gathering,

and he was also curious about how the host managed to create such a vast cavern.

As he continued to follow the humanoid Evil Fallen deeper into the cavern, he surprisingly encountered a reception area.

Black crystal tables of uniform spacing, with four individuals seated around each one, much like the banquet seating of his former life.

On the other side, the smallest of the Evil Fallens sat around tables the size of teacups. In contrast, the eastern side was much more imposing; Godzilla-sized creatures were seated around stone tables as large as sports arenas.

Bai Wu even began to suspect that the cavern inside this massive mountain range had reached one-seventh the size of the base level of the High Tower.

It could entirely become a shelter, if it wasn’t affected by the rules outside of the tower. Combined with the refined internal construction... Bai Wu felt a sense of unreality.

He casually chose a table to sit down at, where three Evil Fallens were already seated.

A beautiful woman, whose appearance was between that of Liu Chengzi and Lin, sat to Bai Wu’s right.

To his left was a man with half his head split open, his eyes on the inside of his brain, and arms like scythes. Although he had no eyes, Bai Wu was certain that this person possessed the Mutation Entry—Iron Cutting—because he had seen it.

The one directly across from Bai Wu was an Evil Fallen whose gender couldn’t be discerned, for this Evil Fallen had no head.

But soon Bai Wu corrected his view; this Evil Fallen didn’t lack a head, rather, its head was on its buttocks.

When he heard the Evil Fallen speak, with the voice coming from under the table, Bai Wu decided to give the three Evil Fallens nicknames.

The beautiful woman he called the Shadow Killer, as her back... was empty. The front of the Shadow Killer was a beautiful woman, but from the back, one could see the internal skeleton, covered with moss...

Bai Wu speculated that she might have died from drowning.

The Evil Fallen with half a head was straightforward, Half-Head. As for the one with the head on its buttocks, Bai Wu instinctively thought of Troll.

Although they seemed like one male, one female, and one indeterminable, Evil Fallens did not concern themselves with gender.

While Bai Wu was pondering how to start a conversation, another Evil Fallen arrived. This Evil Fallen had been trying to make an emergency phone call just before death, and as a result, a tumor in the shape of a phone grew out of the left side of his face. He seemed to believe he was still on a call with someone, babbling non-stop.

Only when he got closer did Bai Wu hear the voice of the Evil Fallen:

"Wife... wife... answer the phone..."

Phone Face approached Troll, eyes blazing red as if hiding endless anger.

Troll was extremely frightened. After all, its mutation level was only five, whereas Phone Face was at eight.

The nitpicker seemed to have understood Telephone Face’s intention and actually stepped aside to give up his spot. So the fourth person became Telephone Face.

Sitting face to face with a Level Eight Evil Fallen Body, Bai Wu felt some pressure, yet his expression remained unchanged, calmly observing his surroundings and analyzing the current situation.

"The person behind the gathering of these Evil Fallens hasn’t shown up yet. Up to now, I haven’t spotted a Level Nine Evil Fallen, which suggests there is an extremely difficult chasm to cross between Level Eight and Nine."

"Not just Level Nine Evil Fallen though, even though I previously estimated that Level Eight Evil Fallen accounted for three percent, the data from the sampling survey actually has some uncertain randomness to it. The data from inside the cave indicates that perhaps overall it’s less than one percent... I’m more curious about the master of the cave now."

"Looking at it this way... Evil Fallen indeed seem to be much stronger than humans. Level Five mutated Evil Fallen can spar with fifth-order Lin Wurou and Wang Shi and their pathetic skirmishes end in a stalemate. But in the High Tower, the strong ones who are born at the sixth order are very rare. Not a single Level Seven, and only Dwarf is at Level Eight."

"If there are no hidden Sequences, could Dwarf be on par with a Level Eight Evil Fallen?"

Bai Wu’s thoughts were soon interrupted.

"My wife isn’t answering my calls, have you seen my wife?"

Telephone Face looked towards the Shadow Killer, who was entwined in resentful energy but whose expression became fearful under Telephone Face’s gaze.

She slowly shook her head.

So Telephone Face turned to the half-headed man, who seemed even more frightened and ran away without answering Telephone Face’s question.

Telephone Face furrowed his brow. A bizarre scene suddenly unfolded.

Bai Wu had originally thought there would be no conflicts in the cave, but he realized he was mistaken – the so-called absence of conflicts simply meant no bloody scenes, but these powerful Evil Fallen had long been confronting each other.

Just as the half-headed man tried to flee, the sound of a telephone ring suddenly came from his heart.

Telephone Face stared intently at the table:

"Have you seen my wife? Why are you running away? Have you seen my wife?"

Its expression gradually twisted into ferocity, the tumor like a telephone suddenly turned red and bright.

About a second later, the half-headed man turned around and obediently sat back in his original spot. However, his return was faltering, as though he was a walking corpse.

Bai Wu noticed that the eyes of the half-headed man held no spark, hollow, void.

"Have you seen my wife?" Telephone Face posed the question to Bai Wu this time.

At that moment, it seemed that the Shadow Killer beside him started to feel anxious for Bai Wu.

"What does your wife look like, how tall is she, what is her weight, are there any noticeable features, what clothes was she wearing, and when was the last time you saw her?" Bai Wu countered.

Telephone Face was silent for a few seconds.

Bai Wu spoke again:

"How long has your wife been missing? What were you doing before she disappeared? Did she say anything to you? Why did you two separate?"

Telephone Face remained silent, and the expression of the Shadow Killer shifted from fear to something bizarre.

"Are you going to answer?" Bai Wu urged.

Facing a Level Eight Evil Fallen, Bai Wu did not experience panic. Since he couldn’t use Prayle’s Eye and his desire for knowledge exploded, it wouldn’t be bad to pass the time with a disappearance case that had not been seen for seven hundred years.

From the reaction of Telephone Face, it seemed that earnestly answering its questions meant not receiving its call.

Bai Wu speculated that Telephone Face’s Mutation Entry might be something similar to a fatal phone call?

Was it capable of turning those who answered the call into its puppets? But surely there were restrictions on activating this power.

In any case, the enthusiastic citizen Mr. Bai was someone who took the problems of passersby very seriously:

"Does your wife have any relatives or friends? Have you asked her family or best friends? Do you think the main reason for your wife’s disappearance is due to an accident or because of Wang?"

"What does Wang look like, and do you have a telescope on the window opposite your home? Does your wife have a habit of showing off her body on the balcony? When was the last time you consummated your marriage? Why aren’t you wearing your wedding ring? Is it because there were problems in your relationship?"

"If it’s not because of Wang, but an accident instead, then has your wife mentioned anything strange lately, like someone hitting on her, or seeing strange people? Have you checked the surveillance cameras in the neighborhood? Credit card records can be looked into."

Telephone Face stood up and walked away without looking at Bai Wu anymore.

"Hey, don’t go! If there’s anyone here who can help you find your wife, it’s definitely me."

Bai Wu tried to retain him, but once Telephone Face turned his back, he seemed unable to hear what Bai Wu was saying, and had already begun seeking another target. freewebnovel.cσ๓

The enthusiastic citizen was quite frustrated.

Once Telephone Face had walked away, Shadow Killer suddenly said:

"Aren’t you afraid of it?"

"I am sincerely helping it; I don’t have time to be afraid."

Shadow Killer asked:

"Where are you from?"

"A ward. The Ninth Psychiatric Hospital."

Shadow Killer nodded; in her view, in that environment from seven hundred years ago, when the apocalypse came, a mental hospital was indeed a breeding ground for these monsters.

"And you?" Bai Wu attempted to gather some information.

"The sewers. Food City Third District."

The world was vast, and for the moment Bai Wu didn’t know where Food City was.

But it was definitely far from here, likely not just one region away. Bai Wu was curious about how these Evil Fallen had traveled across so many regions to get here.

"I’ll have to visit your homeland if I get the chance. By the way, the way you got here, could it possibly be...?"

He deliberately left a pause, pretending he came the same way as Shadow Killer.

"Yes, that gentleman has the ability to travel between regions. I, like you, was persuaded by him and came here through the Teleportation Array to the Misty Area."

Bai Wu maintained his composure, but internally he was full of surprise:

The travel ticket I previously guessed... allowed the holder to break through regional restrictions, but could it also allow other Evil Fallen to break through? No... if that were the case, the area beyond the tower would have been in chaos already. There must be some key information I’m missing...

Bai Wu tentatively asked: freēwebnovel.com

"Is this your first time participating?"

"Mhm, the crow told me that every seventy years there would be once when a god from the Well would reallocate the resources of the region."

It was too cryptic, there were too many possibilities to guess from, I must narrow it down.

"Mhm, it told me the same. Do you think that gentleman brought us here for some other arrangements as well?" said Bai Wu.

Shadow Killer smiled ominously, "Maybe he’s planning to sacrifice us."

Bai Wu made a horrified expression to match, then thought that with the mask on, it wouldn’t matter.

He suddenly realized that all the beings in the cave, Evil Fallen, weren’t killing each other but were seated around the tables, chatting and laughing. It was all an illusion.

The ominous expression on Shadow Killer’s face might suggest she was scheming something.

Their conversation once again fell silent; the hypnotized state of the Dwarf didn’t seem to have lifted yet.

As the seconds and minutes passed, Bai Wu still hadn’t seen the lord of the place make an appearance.

But he found several Evil Fallen that resembled chess pawns. They had a texture like white birch, and the platters on top of their heads looked like those used by waiters to serve drinks, although there was clearly no drinks here.

Bai Wu also noticed that the chess pieces went from table to table asking about various matters and that they held a roster in their hands.

"Chess pieces, rank six... Certainly not as exaggerated as the crows."

"Of course, to keep such a vast cave in order, with thousands of Evil Fallen starting from level five, the lord of the cave couldn’t possibly have only three crows. Maybe there’s some information on these chess pieces... I need to get my hands on that roster."

Bai Wu stood up, determined to gather as much intelligence as possible before the lord of the cave arrived.

Bai Wu approached the nearby chess piece Evil Fallen, which were generally not very tall, standing shoulder to shoulder with their captain.

"The duty of the chess pieces is probably just to maintain order. They won’t attack me. If I want to extract information, perhaps I could use the ring."

This thought was quickly dismissed by Bai Wu.

Bai Wu also considered whether the ring that could temporarily enhance favorability could be used on the crows.

But considering this place might suppress even Prayle’s Eye, the ring’s effect might be negligible.

"Forget it, let’s not use these methods for now. Xiaoyi was knocked out by spiritual power; perhaps these chess pieces and crows are all linked to some powerful Evil Fallen."

He approached the chess piece and decided to ask directly:

"Hello, we meet again. Our last meeting was seventy years ago."

Naturally, the chess piece didn’t remember the gathering from seventy years ago.

But when he said this, it didn’t doubt him much. Unlike other Evil Fallen, from the crow to the chess piece, Bai Wu noticed that the minions of the lord of the cave were all quite friendly:

"Is that so, then I wish you more resources at this gathering."

Resources allocation?

Bai Wu pondered... Did the Ninth Hospital have resources? Did the death flight have resources?

What exactly were these resources?

It’s getting more interesting; mutations outside the tower are much more complex than I imagined.

"By the way, I saw someone with a telephone on their face who seemed to be hypnotizing the Evil Fallen at that table. I suggest you go check it out."

"Ah, these unruly fellows are going to anger the master!"

It was the chess piece’s duty to maintain order. Hearing Bai Wu’s words, it hurried along with Bai Wu to where the Dwarf and Shadow Killer were seated.

The chess piece started observing the Dwarf while Bai Wu studied the roster by its side.

There weren’t any incomprehensible symbols, which was a relief for Bai Wu. Cain’s region always had some strange patterns.

Maybe it was fate, but Bai Wu saw a familiar name at first glance on the roster.

Ninth Psychiatric Hospital Ward: Building 4, Distortion Level: Red, Already Arrived.
