Chapter 318: Chapter 312: The Announcement of the Mist
The head monster’s pupils contracted at her words, its gaze filled with terror.
The bodiless head began to tremble.
It had clearly recalled something terrifying.
"I can’t say! I can’t say... I’ll die... I’ll die... I’ll die..."
The already bizarre head monster suddenly split in two. A dark green substance oozed from its sewn-up mouth.
CLANG!
CLANG! CLANG!
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The two halves of the head began to smash against the wall, as if it had gone completely insane.
After slamming into the wall over twenty times, the two halves of the head dropped to the floor. Its eyes were wide open, but it was completely still, seemingly lifeless and silent.
Wen Ying crouched down to take a look, but the head monster had suddenly vanished.
Other than a mixture of bright red and dark green on the floor, there were no other traces.
On the wall, however, there was a head-shaped indentation left from the impacts.
[It must have violated a rule and gotten sanctioned, right?]
[Yeah, but what exactly *are* these rules?]
[These rules are like game rules. The head monster was an NPC, and if an NPC breaks the rules, the game deletes it. Simply put, it’s just pre-programmed.]
[If the head monster is an NPC, then what kind of game is Doctor Wen playing? It doesn’t seem like a survival game. A horror game?]
[Anyone else think this is related to the "mist"? We don’t know what the mist is, but based on what happened before, it doesn’t seem friendly. And Doctor Wen’s stream happening now is such a coincidence. Could this be the mist?]
[Hasn’t the "mist" been debunked? Why are people still talking about it? That’s just a malicious rumor! It’s trying to sow discord among our people!]
Wen Ying glanced at the comments scrolling across her screen.
’I can’t believe someone knows about the mist.’
"System, can I talk to someone from the government? A private channel, I mean."
[My dearest Host, of course you can! This system is dedicated to serving its dearest Host, you know~ It only costs one hundred thousand reputation value~]
’Wen Ying was dazed for a moment. When did the system’s starting price for everything become one hundred thousand reputation value?’
Seeing Wen Ying’s silence, the system immediately changed its tune. [But under such perilous circumstances, this system can give its Host a ten-percent discount! Only ninety thousand reputation value! The reputation value has been deducted!]
[Host, please rest assured. Even though the viewers in the livestream can see you, all they see is you silently facing the wall. As for the person you wish to contact, the screen has been split. No one besides your contact will see this feed.]
Many people were watching Wen Ying’s livestream—far more than anyone imagined.
No one knew the professions of all the people watching from behind their screens.
Just then, in a certain room, a VIP sitting on a sofa and staring at a projection on the wall noticed the image suddenly change.
An enormous head appeared on the screen, replacing the previous livestream feed.
Thankfully, the large head belonged to Doctor Wen.
’But why had the livestream suddenly changed like this?’
"Hello, Sir. I know you’re watching my livestream. No one but you can see this current feed. I’d like to ask for your thoughts on the matter of the mist."
The leader was taken aback.
’What kind of advanced, high-end technology is this?’
’Can the others really not see this?’
Seeing the leader’s silence, Wen Ying continued, "Why don’t you check the livestream on someone else’s phone?"
The leader immediately had the person guarding the door come in. He then took out a phone and searched for Wen Ying’s livestream.
The person stood ramrod straight, eyes forward, not even glancing at the projection on the wall.
When the leader saw the livestream, he was astonished. In that feed, Doctor Wen was just walking around as normal, stopping and starting.
It wasn’t at all like the feed he was seeing in his room.
After the guard left, the leader was silent for a moment. "Alright," he said. "What do you want to know?"
"Can the existence of the mist be announced to the public?"
"The mist has already appeared within our country’s borders—otherwise I wouldn’t be here. The government’s cover-up is bound to be exposed sooner or later."
The leader’s expression flickered. He finally spoke. "You may. I trust you will handle it well, Doctor Wen. To be honest, the mist you’re in is the first of its kind to appear within our borders. The government doesn’t have much of a handle on it either. We’ve... sent people into other mists that have appeared in the country before. There were casualties, but we also made some gains. We still don’t know the specific rules of the mist. If you can figure them out, Doctor Wen, it would be a massive help to us."
