Chapter 42: Chapter 42: I Still Have My First Time
"Take it off!"
At his boss’s command, Preston Chase silently took off his own jacket and draped it over Alaric Blackwood.
He gestured to the Geely Panda parked across the street. "Mr. Blackwood, the car is over there."
"..."
Mr. Blackwood, a man worth over ten billion, was left speechless in the wind.
He stared at the white subcompact for a moment, then couldn’t help but size up his new assistant. He estimated his height to be at least 185 centimeters, and thanks to his time in the military, he was very well-built.
He was a little perplexed. "Assistant Chase, you drive such a... big car?"
Preston Chase replied with a deadpan expression, "No, sir. My car is currently in for maintenance. That’s my girlfriend’s car."
He’d received a sudden call for an interview and was then told to start immediately, so he hadn’t had a chance to pick up his own car yet.
Alaric Blackwood said, "Alright then," but he pulled Sophie Shaw to the side of the road. Spotting a taxi approaching in the distance, he immediately raised his hand to hail it.
Preston Chase followed, asking respectfully, "Mr. Blackwood, you don’t need me to drive you?"
"No need."
’At 188 centimeters tall, nearly 190, I’d have to contort my legs to fit inside a Geely Panda.’
Preston Chase said, "Understood."
The assistant watched the two of them get into the taxi. A chilly night breeze blew past, and he couldn’t help but rub his arms.
Preston Chase had a strong build and a high metabolism, so he was only wearing a short-sleeved shirt underneath. After giving his jacket to Alaric Blackwood, he thought he could handle the cold, but the wind was unexpectedly bone-chilling.
He strode over to the white Panda and stuck his hands in his pants pockets...
’I’m screwed.’
’My phone and car keys are in the jacket pocket.’
He made a split-second decision, immediately hailing another taxi to chase the one carrying Alaric Blackwood and Sophie Shaw. The chase continued all the way to Maplewood Estate, twenty kilometers away.
Alaric Blackwood had just stepped out of the car, still wearing Assistant Chase’s jacket, when Preston Chase appeared before him like a ghost. He bowed respectfully. "Mr. Blackwood, my jacket."
The startled man took half a step back. "..."
’Where in the world did Preston Chase just pop out from?’
He hadn’t liked the rebellious assistant Quentin Blackwood had arranged for him, so he’d hand-picked a new one himself. ’How did I end up with someone who’s also a little... strange? Is there something wrong with my judgment?’
’Are other CEOs’ assistants like this?’
"You’re still on your probationary period." frёeωebɳovel.com
The implication was clear: ’Why did you have to scare me like that? You’re fired as of tomorrow.’
But Preston Chase was as straightforward as they come; he was completely oblivious to Alaric Blackwood’s underlying meaning.
He remained respectful. "I know."
"You chased me for twenty kilometers... for a jacket?"
Preston Chase replied, "My apologies, Mr. Blackwood. My car keys and phone are in the jacket pocket. If it were my own car, I wouldn’t have chased you down and disturbed you. But my girlfriend has to work early tomorrow morning, and she needs her car to get there."
After hearing the explanation, Alaric Blackwood relaxed. He took off the jacket and handed it back to Preston Chase. "Making you start work in such a hurry... you weren’t quite prepared, were you?"
"No, I am prepared."
"Good."
Alaric Blackwood walked a little further away and gestured for Preston Chase to follow.
After getting out of the car, Sophie Shaw stood at the gate, watching the two men from a distance as they spoke in hushed, secretive tones.
Alaric Blackwood gave Preston Chase some work-related instructions and handed him his own car keys. Then, he reached out and poked his assistant’s chest. It felt solid. "Nice work."
"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Blackwood."
"You can go."
"Goodbye, Mr. Blackwood."
Preston Chase got into the taxi they had arrived in and left.
Sophie Shaw stood stiffly by the gate, waiting for Alaric Blackwood to come over. She recalled how he had just been whispering with his male assistant and had even touched the man’s chest—at least, from her angle, it looked like he was touching him. A huge question mark formed in her mind.
’This Alaric Blackwood... he couldn’t be into both men and women, could he?’
"You have a key. Why are you standing out here waiting?"
Alaric Blackwood walked over and immediately wrapped an arm around her shoulder. Before she could respond, he was guiding her inside.
Once inside, he took two pairs of slippers from the shoe cabinet. One pair was for women, and they were brand new.
After Sophie Shaw changed her shoes, she heard Alaric Blackwood say, "I had the room you picked out last time furnished. It has everything you need, so you can stay here comfortably tonight."
"Should I shower first?"
Alaric Blackwood thought for a moment. "Yes, I should probably shower."
’That drunkard Jaden threw up all over me. Even though I threw away the soiled jacket, I can still faintly smell something unpleasant on me.’
"Okay."
Sophie Shaw picked up her bag and walked into the living room first, heading up the stairs.
She went to the room she had previously chosen. It was clean and tidy, the bed was already made, and when she opened the closet, she found it fully stocked with fashionable clothes for the current season. Below them was a row of assorted shoes. Everything, from the clothes to the shoes, was in her size.
She picked out a set of pajamas, casually placed her bag on the nightstand, and went straight into the bathroom to wash up.
Although the room had its own private toilet and bathroom, as well as a small, sunny balcony, it wasn’t the master bedroom. The bathroom only had a shower, no bathtub.
She took a quick shower, dried her hair, and opened the cabinet behind the bathroom mirror. Inside, she found a row of skincare products, still in their original packaging. The expiration dates were recent, suggesting they had been bought in the last few days.
She unwrapped them, did a simple skincare routine, and then heard a knock on the door.
’That must be Alaric Blackwood, finished with his shower.’
She felt a sudden wave of nervousness. She straightened her pajamas, tidied her hair, and walked over to open the door.
The man had just finished showering. He was wearing only a black silk robe, its belt tied loosely at his waist, offering a glimpse of his firm chest and abs.
"Are you ready?" the man asked, his voice deep, a smile in his peach-blossom eyes.
She stepped back, making way for him.
Alaric Blackwood strode into the room, closing the door behind him. He eagerly wrapped his arm around the woman’s waist, pinning her against the door.
’This scene is exactly like the one from my dream.’
Sophie Shaw’s heart hammered like a drum. Fresh from her shower, her skin was flushed a delicate pink from the steam. With her back against the door, her breathing grew ragged, and she instinctively placed her hands on the man’s shoulders to push him away.
"Mr. Blackwood, wait a second."
"What’s wrong? You’re not ready?"
Alaric Blackwood raised an eyebrow. "What more is there to wait for?"
"I... I think it’s necessary to provide a medical report."
"?"
"I’ll provide one too."
’We agreed this was just an experience. The goal wasn’t to sleep together, but to kiss, hug, and touch.’
’And she needs me to provide a medical report for *that*?’
Although he could understand her reasoning, the words struck Alaric Blackwood as an insinuation that she thought he was dirty.
"Do I look unclean to you?"
Sophie Shaw shook her head vigorously. "That’s not what I meant."
"I haven’t slept around with women."
Alaric Blackwood’s expression turned serious. "I’m still a virgin."
"Strictly speaking, I’m ’cleaner’ than you. I’ve never even had a girlfriend."
Sophie Shaw froze, staring at the man before her in disbelief. "So you’re saying I’m dirty?"
"I didn’t say that."
"But you’re implying that because I’ve had boyfriends, I’m dirtier than you, aren’t you?"
"..."
’One thoughtless sentence, and I’ve stirred up a hornet’s nest!’
The two stood in a stalemate until Alaric Blackwood finally broke the awkward silence.
"If you’re not ready, then we’ll do this next time. As for the medical report you mentioned, I can provide one."
