Chapter 126: Chapter 126: He’s Here

"My right eyelid won’t stop twitching. It’s been like this all night."

Caleb Cheney said, a look of unease on his face.

Oscar Lynch scoffed. "You’re too gutless."

"She’s Mr. Blackwood’s wife, after all. It’s not that I’m gutless, it’s that you’re outrageously bold, okay?"

"It’s a fake marriage. They don’t have any feelings for each other. What’s there to be afraid of?"

"But they still had a wedding, and it was a trending topic online. Who in our circle doesn’t know she’s Mr. Blackwood’s woman?"

"You coward. If you don’t have the balls, you can leave by yourself in a bit. I’ll take her back and enjoy her all to myself."

Caleb Cheney might have been a coward, but his lust gave him courage. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone along with Oscar Lynch to do something so despicable today.

"We’re in this together. Don’t even think about having her all to yourself."

"Then cut the crap." freёwebnovel.com

Sophie Shaw’s head was bowed. She hadn’t completely passed out yet. Supported on either side by the two men as they walked, she could hear their conversation.

’From the sound of it, they’d been planning this for a while?’

’Just because I have a fake marriage with Alaric Blackwood, they thought no one would protect me, so they decided to target me and even drug me?’

’They really are audacious and lawless.’

When they reached the first floor, she wanted to ask the restaurant staff for help. She managed to lift her head, but the drug made her dizzy and muddled, and she couldn’t form a complete sentence.

Oscar Lynch and Caleb Cheney walked hurriedly, dragging her quickly out of the restaurant and giving her no chance to ask anyone for help.

Just as she was being shoved into a black sedan by the two men, she dazedly saw a red sports car pull up a few meters away.

The color was incredibly eye-catching. It was an expensive, imported supercar with a beautiful design, extremely rare in the country. In fact, it was the only one in Kingsport, and it was registered under Alaric Blackwood’s name.

Thrown onto the back seat of the sedan, she didn’t even have the strength to sit up, but the corners of her lips curled into a faint smile.

She knew Alaric Blackwood was here.

"She’s smiling."

Caleb Cheney slid into the back seat after her. Staring at the smile on Sophie Shaw’s face, he couldn’t help but smile too. "This woman is really interesting."

’She can still manage a smile.’

Oscar Lynch got into the driver’s seat, not caring that he was driving drunk. He started the car and stepped on the gas, all in one smooth motion.

He didn’t notice the red supercar following them. His attention was entirely focused on whether there were any traffic police ahead checking for drunk drivers. If he saw any, he planned to turn early and take a detour to avoid them.

The car smoothly left the city center, and the traffic thinned out. Through the rearview mirror, he saw the red supercar behind them. Before he could even be surprised, the supercar suddenly accelerated, overtook them, then made a sharp turn and screeched to a halt, blocking their path.

"Holy shit!"

Oscar Lynch cursed and slammed on the brakes.

SCREECH—

The tires scraped against the road, making a piercing sound.

Alaric Blackwood unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, and slammed the car door shut with a BANG.

He looked at the black sedan that had screeched to a stop and strode forward. He tapped on the driver’s side window. Oscar Lynch swallowed hard and slowly rolled the window down.

"Mr. Blackwood, what a coincidence."

He forced a smile at Alaric Blackwood.

’He never would have imagined this guy would show up to intercept them.’

"I went to the restaurant to pick up my wife and saw you putting her in your car."

Oscar Lynch quickly said, "Oh," and pointed to the back seat. "She’s in the car, yes, she’s in the car. She drank too much. Caleb and I were just about to take her home."

"How thoughtful of you."

Oscar Lynch let out a dry laugh. "You’re too kind, Mr. Blackwood. It was nothing."

"I heard you want to invest in my wife’s jewelry company?"

"I was considering it, yes. We had dinner together today to discuss the investment. The conversation went quite well."

Alaric Blackwood’s eyes were cold, but the corners of his lips curved up slightly. "Just what I’d expect from a friend. So considerate. Seeing as you’re not only taking my wife home but also want to invest in her company, I must treat you to a proper meal tomorrow. How about lunch?"

Seeing that he hadn’t been exposed, Oscar Lynch replied with an obsequious smile, "Sure, tomorrow at noon works."

"Then I’ll be taking my wife home now."

Alaric Blackwood pulled open the rear car door, glanced at the drowsy Sophie Shaw, and hauled her straight out of the car.

BANG— The door was slammed shut.

Oscar Lynch and Caleb Cheney didn’t dare to breathe, silently watching as he carried Sophie Shaw to the red sports car, opened the passenger door, and put her inside.

After fastening Sophie Shaw’s seatbelt, Alaric Blackwood closed the door, got in, and drove away.

The black sedan was left far behind. He turned to glance at Sophie Shaw in the passenger seat and reached out to touch her face. Her temperature seemed normal.

"Are you conscious right now?"

"...Mmm."

"Mmm, my ass."

Alaric Blackwood’s brow furrowed, and he sped up. "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Or are you having any kind of reaction?"

He had heard about the usual tactics of those two degenerates, Oscar Lynch and Caleb Cheney.

After a while without a response from Sophie Shaw, he turned to look at her and found that she had passed out completely.

...

「The next morning.」

Sophie Shaw opened her eyes and found herself in Alaric Blackwood’s bed.

Her clothes had been changed. She was wearing a silk robe, and her body felt fresh and clean, as if she had been given a bath.

The headache and stomachache from the hangover assaulted her the moment her consciousness returned.

She rubbed her splitting head and climbed out of bed. The last thing she remembered was Alaric Blackwood stopping Oscar Lynch’s car. After that, she knew nothing.

’That was a close call.’

’Who would have thought Alaric Blackwood’s friends could be so vile...’

She threw off the covers and got out of bed, wanting to go back to her room to wash up and change. But she was completely disoriented. After just a few steps down the hallway, she collapsed.

She stayed down right where she fell.

Sophie Shaw simply passed out again.

Alaric Blackwood finished making breakfast and went upstairs. From a distance, he saw her sprawled on the hallway floor, her arms crossed, her small face resting on them, sleeping soundly.

He walked over, hands on his hips, and looked at the woman who could fall asleep anywhere. He was both annoyed and amused.

"You’re really something else."

He bent down, scooped her up, and patted her cheek. "Wake up."

"I feel sick. Let me sleep a little longer."

Sophie Shaw didn’t even open her eyes. She found a comfortable position in Alaric Blackwood’s arms, wanting to go back to sleep.

Alaric Blackwood chuckled in exasperation, lifted her into his arms, and strode downstairs.

Sophie Shaw was placed on a chair in the dining room. Dizzy, with a pounding headache, she groggily flopped back down onto the table.

Alaric Blackwood put the breakfast on the table, but she didn’t eat, keeping her eyes closed and sleeping.

Seeing that she wouldn’t be fully coherent anytime soon, Alaric Blackwood sighed, took out his phone, and called Hannah Sutton back. After telling Assistant Sutton that Sophie would be taking a half-day off, he hung up, grabbed a blanket from the living room sofa, and draped it over her.

Sophie Shaw slept from eight until past ten. Her arms were so numb they had almost lost all feeling, and the numbness finally woke her up.

She frowned, flexing her arms. She glanced at the cold sandwich and milk on the table, then looked toward the living room.

Alaric Blackwood was sitting on the sofa, still wearing a silk robe that matched hers. ’Looks like he didn’t go to work?’

"Alaric Blackwood."

She called out his name.

The man slowly turned his head to look at her. "You’re awake?"

"Last night..."

"You have the nerve to bring that up?"

"..."

"Your assistant wasn’t there, and you dared to go drinking with two men by yourself? Are you crazy?"
