Chapter 120: Chapter 120: An Unbearable Past
Damian Morgan let Vianne Kane vent her anger, allowing her to slap him until he was seeing stars and his nose was bleeding profusely. Finally, unable to take it anymore, he grabbed her arm as she raised it to strike again.
"Have you had enough?"
Vianne Kane’s eyes burned with fury. "Let go."
"Vianne, at least let me explain."
"What’s there to explain?" fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
She tried to yank her arm back but couldn’t break free. So, she started kicking Damian Morgan’s shins fiercely.
Every kick landed on his kneecap, making Damian Morgan wince in pain.
"Vianne!"
He roared at her.
Vianne Kane jumped, her eyes widening as she stared at him in terror.
The man glared at her with bloodthirsty eyes, as if he was about to tear her to pieces.
"Let’s go back to our room. You’re going to listen to my explanation."
He forcefully dragged her upstairs.
This time, Vianne Kane only struggled weakly and didn’t dare to hit him again. She was genuinely terrified by the murderous look he had just given her.
Back in the bedroom, Damian Morgan slammed the door shut, locked it, and with a rough shove, threw Vianne Kane onto the large bed.
The man then grabbed a tissue from the nightstand and pressed it to his bleeding nose. As he wiped away the blood, he said, "This morning, I went with my mom to a furniture store. We ran into Sophie Shaw, and there was a small conflict."
"Then this afternoon, the news about me cheating broke online. It must have been Sophie Shaw."
"We took photos and videos together when we were dating. It would be way too easy for her to mess with me."
"All that so-called evidence of me cheating online was faked by her using AI. Today’s AI technology is very advanced; it can make things look completely real. It’s understandable that you were fooled. But Vianne, you have to believe me. If you don’t, you’ll be falling right into Sophie Shaw’s trap. She’d love nothing more than for us to break up so she can laugh at us."
Damian Morgan defended himself with complete composure.
Vianne Kane watched him, his face a mask of calm control, and wondered how much of his story she could believe.
"Vianne, don’t let Sophie Shaw lead you by the nose."
"Since I got together with you, this probably isn’t the first time Sophie Shaw has slandered me like this in front of you, is it?"
"She said I cheated with Yara Valentine. Yara Valentine used to be a designer at Heart of the Ocean, so it was unavoidable that we’d have contact at work. It was just Sophie Shaw being jealous. She’s incredibly malicious toward any woman around me. Do I even need to remind you how she treated you? Besides, the first thing she did after getting control of Heart of the Ocean was fire Yara Valentine. You can imagine how vindictive she is."
Listening to Damian Morgan ramble on, Vianne Kane suddenly realized something. "How did Sophie Shaw get Heart of the Ocean?"
"Didn’t you say you didn’t want to give it to her? Why did you give it to her later?"
Recalling Sophie Shaw’s earlier warning, she interrogated Damian Morgan, "Did she have evidence of you cheating? Did she force your hand, making you give her the shares?"
"Of course not."
"Then how did Heart of the Ocean end up in her hands?"
Damian Morgan stared at Vianne Kane’s aggressive expression. Left with no other choice, he decided to play the only card he had that could control her.
When he discovered that Sophie Shaw was merely the unwanted baggage of a man who married into the Kane Family, and thus had no value he could exploit, he shifted his target to Vianne Kane. To avoid making the same mistake, he hired a private investigator to secretly dig up every detail of Vianne Kane’s past.
Vianne Kane had been a little princess born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was doted on by the Kane Family and grew up proud and arrogant. But she wasn’t without a sordid past. On the night of her eighteenth birthday party at a bar, she got drunk, was drugged by a rich heir, and ended up spending the night with him.
Not long after, she found out she was pregnant. Bianca Kane took her to a hospital and secretly had the child aborted.
To avenge her daughter, Bianca Kane hired people to break the rich heir’s legs. She also pulled some strings to bankrupt his family’s company. The family ended up drowning in debt; the parents both committed suicide by jumping off a building, and the rich heir himself disappeared without a trace.
"Vianne, the night you gave yourself to me... you think I couldn’t tell it wasn’t your first time?"
He smiled at Vianne Kane. "Not only do I know you slept with someone else, I also know you were pregnant with his child. And to protect you, your mother ’took care of’ the baby in your womb, and then ’took care of’ his entire family."
The color drained from Vianne Kane’s face.
"Sophie Shaw used this to blackmail me. She said if I didn’t give her Heart of the Ocean, she would expose your past. For you, I had no choice but to give up Heart of the Ocean."
Vianne Kane covered her mouth, tears welling in her eyes. "You’re saying Sophie... knows about this?"
"She lived under the same roof as you. Is it really that strange she’d know? Otherwise, how do you think *I* found out about this part of your past?"
As he spoke, Damian Morgan tossed the blood-stained tissue into the trash can. After making sure his nose had stopped bleeding, he reached out, helped the trembling and terrified Vianne Kane up from the bed, and pulled her into a tight embrace.
"I did it to protect you. I never brought it up before because I didn’t want to mention it. I didn’t want you to remember that awful past."
Vianne Kane gritted her teeth, unable to believe that Sophie Shaw could be so despicable and shameless, with absolutely no morals. To think she would use Vianne’s trauma to threaten Damian, all for that pathetic little company, Heart of the Ocean.
"She already promised me that as long as I gave her Heart of the Ocean, she would never expose you online. But her love has long since turned to hate. She couldn’t stand to see us get married, couldn’t stand to see us happy. After the conflict at the furniture store today, she decided to come after me."
"Vianne, if you don’t stand by my side, if you don’t trust me as your husband, our marriage will be on the brink of collapse. And that’s exactly what Sophie Shaw wants to see."
Damian Morgan’s tone softened. He patted her back and soothed her gently, "I love you, Vianne. I don’t care about your past. I love you for who you are. I will never betray you."
Listening to the man’s soft, gentle words, Vianne Kane’s thoughts descended into chaos.
She remembered the night of her eighteenth birthday, at that wild party. She had drunk a lot of alcohol, and a male classmate had given her flowers and confessed his feelings for her in front of everyone.
The classmate’s name was Conor Sullivan. He had coveted her for a long time. His family’s business wasn’t exactly clean, and while they had some dirty money, it wasn’t a lot. More importantly, he wasn’t handsome enough. She couldn’t stand the sight of Conor Sullivan and had ruthlessly rejected him in public.
That very night, Conor Sullivan got his revenge. Her drink was drugged, and she was groggily dragged away by him to a hotel room...
It was the darkest moment of her life. Even though Bianca Kane had avenged her afterward, the memory remained buried deep in her heart. She had thought that with time, the pain would slowly fade, but now it had been brought up again.
’Damn you, Sophie Shaw!’
’It’s all her fault...’ fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"If you still don’t believe me, you can send someone to find that designer, Yara Valentine. I’m not afraid of a face-to-face confrontation."
Damian Morgan said, his gaze firm.
