Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Nina Halloway Faints
After a deathly silence, Jaden said, "No."
Tears streamed down Nina Halloway’s face.
"If you don’t love me, why did you get engaged to me?"
"I just hadn’t met anyone I liked, and my family was pressuring me..."
Nina Halloway understood. freёwebnovel.com
’She was just a stopgap in Jaden’s love life. If he hadn’t met a girl he truly liked, he probably would have just settled. He would have married her in a couple of years, and they would have simply made a life together out of convenience.’
’But now that he had met someone he truly liked, he could no longer compromise. She, his fiancée, had become a burden he was desperate to cast aside.’
SLAP—
Nina Halloway finally couldn’t take it anymore and slapped Jaden across the face.
"You should have told me sooner. You shouldn’t have dragged this on for so long."
They had been engaged for two years. In her world, Jaden was her future husband.
She had always been completely loyal, but he went behind her back with another woman.
If Alaric Blackwood hadn’t sent her that video, she would still be in the dark, like a fool...
She finally understood why Jaden had been deliberately avoiding her for the past six months.
"Nina, I’m sorry."
Jaden took the hit, his eyes red-rimmed.
He had cheated during their engagement, so he was completely in the wrong. He couldn’t face Nina Halloway, and he deserved to be hit.
He was willing to take the slap if it could bring the matter to a clean end.
However, seeing him get hit, Stella Yarrow was the first to lose it.
She glared at Nina Halloway and, without a word, raised her hand and slapped her.
After hitting her, she felt a flicker of regret, worried she’d caused trouble.
Nina Halloway was caught off guard. She never expected the woman Jaden brought with him to attack her. She hadn’t tried to cause trouble for this woman at all; her questions had been directed solely at Jaden.
She was stunned by the blow, and one side of her face visibly began to swell.
Sophie Shaw, in a flash of anger, rushed over and supported Nina Halloway. "Nina, are you okay?"
Nina Halloway clutched her cheek, tears welling in her eyes.
She shook her head. Looking at the fuming Stella Yarrow, she felt a surge of indignation. "What gives you the right to hit me?"
"You hit him first," Stella Yarrow’s voice softened.
"I hit him because he lied to me. He was engaged to me but was fooling around. You have no right to lay a hand on me."
As Nina Halloway’s tone hardened, Stella Yarrow lost her nerve.
Afraid of getting a reputation as a homewrecker, she quickly hid behind Jaden. Shaking his arm, she asked in a small voice, "Garland, can we go now?"
Jaden was still dumbfounded.
He was surprised to see Sophie Shaw here. Since walking in, his attention hadn’t been on the room itself. He hadn’t even stepped inside, just stood in the entryway to lay his cards on the table with Nina Halloway.
"Why didn’t you tell me someone was here?" he blamed Nina Halloway. "We’re discussing a private matter. It’s not convenient for outsiders to be present."
Nina Halloway sneered, "What, are you embarrassed now?"
"Nina..."
"Sophie Shaw isn’t an outsider. She’s Alaric’s wife, my sister-in-law. Besides, you’re the one who did something wrong. Are you really afraid of people laughing at you?"
"I was wrong. I was wrong to get engaged to you. I should have told you sooner. Ever since you entered the entertainment industry, my parents have become more and more dissatisfied with you. A woman who’s always showing her face in public, filming risqué scenes, baring her waist and back on the big screen... Do you know what men say about you in private?"
"They say you look like a seductive vixen, that you’re a total slut..."
SLAP—
Nina Halloway’s palm landed on Jaden’s face again.
The man gritted his back teeth, clenched his fists, and suppressed the urge to hit back.
SLAP—SLAP—
Two more slaps followed in quick succession, striking his face hard.
Jaden staggered back from the blows, causing Stella Yarrow to stumble back with him uncontrollably until their backs hit the door, with nowhere left to retreat.
’She stared, her eyes red and brimming with furious tears. She couldn’t understand why Jaden was being so weak. He’d been slapped three times—how could he not dare to fight back? How could he just let Nina Halloway walk all over him?’
’Jaden clearly didn’t like Nina Halloway. There was no reason to let her get away with this.’
"What’s with that look?"
Nina Halloway, now in a frenzy, swung her hand and slapped Stella Yarrow across the face. "That’s to pay you back."
Stella Yarrow had never been slapped in the face before. Tears instantly streamed down. She started to cry, her sobs growing louder and more aggrieved.
"Garland, are you just going to let her hit me?"
"Didn’t you say you’d protect me?"
"Hit her back!"
Stella Yarrow screamed in desperation.
Provoked, Jaden swung his arm, his fist flying toward Nina Halloway’s face.
Nina Halloway didn’t dodge or flinch. She stood right in front of Jaden. Just as the fist was about to land on her face, the man stopped it in time.
His fist hovered less than a centimeter from her face.
"Go on, hit me if you have the guts!"
Nina Halloway taunted, "Don’t you dare?"
"Jaden, not only are you a cheater, you’re gutless too."
The man gritted his teeth hard. "Yeah, I’m gutless. I don’t deserve you. Can we please just break the engagement?"
"Why should I?"
"I cheated on you! I was unfaithful! You still want to stay engaged to me?"
"Can’t I?"
Jaden grew frantic. "Nina Halloway, you’ve hit me, you’ve cursed me. Can’t we just part on good terms?"
"Depends on my mood."
"Don’t be willful. Let’s not hold each other back. If I wasn’t considering Alaric, and the years of history between us, I would’ve laid my cards on the table long ago. I didn’t want to hurt you..."
"Get out!"
Nina Halloway let out a heart-wrenching roar.
Jaden yanked open the door behind him, dragged Stella Yarrow out, and slammed it shut with a deafening bang.
Staring at the heavily slammed security door, Nina Halloway couldn’t catch her breath. Her body went limp, and she collapsed toward the floor.
"Nina!"
Sophie Shaw scrambled to catch her, just managing to cradle Nina Halloway’s head and keep it from hitting the floor.
She gently laid her flat on the floor. In a panic, she thought about calling an ambulance, but considering Nina Halloway was a public figure, she decided to call Alaric Blackwood first.
At that moment, Alaric Blackwood had just arrived at the pool club. He’d started a game with Evan Ford and sunk a ball on the break when his phone suddenly rang.
Seeing the caller ID was Sophie Shaw, he answered immediately.
"Miss me already?"
Sophie Shaw was speechless for a moment, then got straight to the point. "Your sister fainted. Should I call an ambulance directly, or can you get a doctor to come over?"
The smile on Alaric Blackwood’s face vanished instantly. "Where are you?" he asked.
"At your sister’s place. Jaden the lawyer was here. He had a huge fight with your sister."
"I’m on my way." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
Alaric Blackwood hung up, dropped his pool cue, grabbed his jacket, and strode out, calling his family doctor as he went.
Evan Ford didn’t know what was happening. He yelled at the man’s retreating back, "Where are you going?"
There was no reply.
Back on Sophie Shaw’s end, she hung up and was worrying about how to move Nina Halloway to the sofa when the doorbell rang.
She froze.
’Did Alaric Blackwood get here that fast?’ she wondered.
She got up and looked through the peephole. It wasn’t Alaric Blackwood. It was Anne and her younger brother, Ethan Austin.
As if seeing her saviors, she threw the door open.
"Perfect timing. Come in and help."
