Chapter 119: Chapter 119; You promised
Lucian’s POV
Lucian , don’t overreact. That is exactly what he wants you to do. Keep calm and just smile.
I repeated the mantra fiercely in my mind, forcing my racing alpha instincts down into a dark corner. A slow, incredibly calm smile crept onto my lips as I walked further into the bakery, my boots clicking rhythmically against the tiled floor.
"Alina," I said smoothly, my eyes locking onto her.
She stood up from the table immediately, looking at me with wide, surprised eyes. "Lucian... you didn’t tell me you were coming to the bakery today."
"Do I really need to ask for permission from my fated mate just to visit her own bakery?" I asked, tilting my head with an amused grin as I pulled out a chair right next to her and sat down.
"Of course not," she murmured, a soft flush hitting her cheeks. "Do you want anything to eat or drink?"
"Just bring me your absolute best," I replied, keeping my voice gentle.
Alina nodded with a smile and immediately walked off toward the kitchen counter to prepare the order. The very exact millisecond her back was turned, the friendly smile completely fell from my face. I turned my head slowly, fixing Davon with a lethal, terrifying glare that could have pinned a man to the wall.
Davon let out a soft, mocking chuckle, leaning back in his seat. "Wow. You scared me a little bit just now, Lucian. I honestly thought you wouldn’t mind that I am here."
"What exactly do you want, Davon?" I demanded, my voice dropping into a dangerously low, gravelly whisper.
"What do I want?" he repeated, putting on a show of clueless innocence. "Come on, I just came in here strictly to get a cookie."
"Stop the fucking act," I hissed, my claws faintly scraping against the underside of the wooden table.
"Act? Oh, come on, Lucian," Davon scoffed, waving his hand dismissively. "It’s been years already. Are you seriously still mad at me? I mean, in my absolute defense, I only did what I genuinely thought was the best for me at the time. And that was choosing myself. I mean, you were the one who taught me that rule about being a rogue in the first place—you care for yourself above anyone else."
"They almost lost their entire lives because of your choices, you fucking ungrateful idiot," I growled, the raw fury burning in my throat. freewebnovel.cσ๓
"Hey, hey, don’t put too much on me now," Davon said, his smile turning sharp. "I mean, after all, they didn’t actually die, did they?"
A low, menacing growl ripped from my chest, my fists clenching so hard the knuckles popped.
"Alright, alright," Davon muttered, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I really don’t want to cause any scene or trouble in here."
I leaned forward across the table, my eyes boring into his. "Why the hell did you save Alina that day? What exactly do you want from her?"
"I just saw a pretty lady in absolute danger, so I saved her," he stated flatly.
"I know you, Davon," I whispered, the threat heavy and absolute in the air between us. "And I promise you... I was merciful enough to spare your pathetic life the last time, but this time? I will personally kill you myself if you try a single thing with her."
"Wow, a definitive threat," Davon mocked, his eyes flashing with a wicked light. "I see you are incredibly possessive of this one, Lucian. But it won’t last anyway. You never truly like anyone... except you have something specific you want to do with Alina."
That did it. Moving with blinding speed, I reached across the table, grabbed his wrist in a vice grip, and squeezed it until the bones ground together.
Davon’s breath hitched, his face turning pale as he struggled against my hold. "You honestly have no idea what I will do to you if you dare pass your boundaries," I warned him, my alpha aura flaring just enough to make him choke.
"Alright! Fucking let go of me!" he hissed through his teeth.
I released his wrist, tracking him coldly as he pulled his hand back, rubbing the red skin.
A second later, Alina arrived back at the table, carrying a small tray. "Here is your cookie. It’s nice and hot," she said brightly. She looked down at me and playfully winked, completely melting the icy tension in my chest.
"Thank you, baby," I said softly, my smile instantly returning as I looked at her.
Alina sat down beside me, her curious gaze moving back and forth between the two of us. "You both seem to really know each other. So... what exactly is the lore with your relationship?"
Davon didn’t hesitate. "I used to be a rogue under Lucian’s command," he stated smoothly.
I glared at him instantly, warning him with my eyes to keep his mouth shut about the past.
"Oh," Alina murmured, her brows lifting in surprise. "That’s how you got to know each other? So... why did you leave, Davon?"
Davon let out a dry, hollow laugh, standing up from his chair. "I guess even as a rogue, I just didn’t fit in with them very well. Anyway, I really have to go now. Thank you for the dessert, Alina, it was truly amazing." He turned his gaze to me, a smug smirk plastering his lips. "Lucian... see you around."
With that, he turned on his heel and walked out of the bakery.
The moment the glass door swung shut, I turned to Alina. "Alina, you explicitly promised me that you would stay far away from him."
"Yes, I know," Alina sighed, crossing her arms. "But he came into my bakery as a customer, Lucian. I can’t just violently kick him out for no valid reason."
I let out a heavy breath, rubbing my temples. "Okay... fine. You will be coming over to my place tonight, right?"
Alina nodded, a warm expression entering her eyes. "Of course I am." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
Before I could reply, a sharp, loud notification vibrated against my thigh. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and unlocked the screen. It was an urgent text from Boca.
Boca: I need you to come over immediately. Right now, Lucian.
