Chapter 447: Chapter 447: From This Moment On, I’ll Say I Love You (47)
The rain outside continued to fall, showing no signs of stopping.
Cassian Jennings stood by the window, gazing outside as the image of the woman leaving the day before flashed through his mind.
A sudden fear gripped him. He was terrified. He knew her temperament all too well; she had stormed out in a rage yesterday. ’So,’ he wondered, ’will she disappear again today, just like she did before?’
As Cassian was lost in thought, Gia Miller pushed open the bedroom door and stepped out. Seeing him standing there, staring into space, she frowned and called out softly, "Cassian..."
The sound of her voice snapped Cassian out of his daze. He turned to face her. "You’re awake?"
"Mm-hmm. Cassian, thank you for saving me yesterday," Gia Miller said, her voice choked with emotion as she clutched the hem of her clothes, holding back tears.
Cassian offered a faint smile and reassured her, "Don’t be silly. I don’t think anyone could have just stood by and done nothing in a situation like that."
Gia Miller said nothing more, simply staring at Cassian without blinking.
’If I had fallen for Cassian from the very beginning,’ she wondered, ’would things be a little better now?’
’The man I love cruelly brought me to this low point, yet Cassian... even though I’ve been using him this whole time, has never once thought of hurting me.’
A sharp pain lanced through Gia Miller’s heart. It was like suddenly realizing she had loved the wrong person, and that she had been terribly, terribly wrong...
Cassian said anyone would have intervened in a situation like that, but he didn’t understand. If it had been Tristan Grayson, he probably wouldn’t have even spared her a second glance.
Cassian was completely oblivious to Gia Miller’s inner turmoil. He walked into the kitchen and brought out a bowl of freshly made porridge. "It’s nothing fancy, but have some. You know I’ve never been much of a cook."
Gia Miller looked at the bowl of hot porridge, her heart swelling with emotion. She took the bowl and utensils, nodded, and quickly walked over to the sofa to sit down.
Cassian watched her for a moment, his brow furrowed. He finally voiced the question that was nagging at him. "Gia, how did you end up in a place like that?" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"I... I..." At his words, Gia Miller froze, the spoon halfway to her lips. The color drained from her face, her expression turning grim.
Seeing her pained expression, Cassian’s frown deepened. He pressed on, "When did you get out of prison? How did you get mixed up with those people again?"
Gia Miller suppressed the unease rising in her heart. She looked up, her eyes filling with tears, and asked in a choked voice, "Cassian, are you saying that because you’re disgusted with me for having been in prison?"
"That’s not what I meant at all. Gia, you’re overthinking things." Her sudden change of subject put Cassian in a difficult position. He shook his head, his voice low.
"Cassian, I have nowhere else to go. The Miller Family fell apart, and it was all because of me. My family is gone, my parents have disowned me, and my brother is still in prison. Tell me, Cassian, where can I go? The moment I was released, those people caught me. They forced me... every day... Cassian, you can’t possibly imagine the kind of torture I’ve endured..."
As Gia’s words dissolved into heavy sobs, Cassian decided to drop the subject. He stood up and cleared his throat. "Gia, don’t dwell on it. If you have nowhere else to go, you can stay here for now." In any case, he was half-responsible for what had happened back then. He certainly didn’t want to see Gia get into trouble again...
