[ Your actions have significantly affected an unnamed beings Alignment towards you. Her esteem shimmers brighter at your acknowledgement, growing to three stars. ]

The crowd burst into louder murmurs where some of the men even snickered, hiding behind the backs of whoever was in front of them. And the women found themselves flushed in second hand embarrassment or laughing secretly as well.

They did not dare to laugh in an inner disciples face. But behind their backs? Oh how shameless they were!

And Qianye deeply appreciated them for their fickleness.

[ You have lampooned an individual with Nascent grade Destiny. Meng Jue has lost 1 Fortuity, and you have gained 1 Fortuity. ]

[ You have raised the Negative Alignment stars of an individual with Nascent grade Destiny towards you. You have gained 20 Fortuity. ]

’Go on, make him seem like even more of a fool!’ he thought to himself as the golden voice whispered those exhilarating words into his mind.

A screen of black with elegant purple script embellished itself before him, at the corner of his sight without obstructing his view. In Qianye’s gaze that had been focused onto Meng Jue, along with that message, there was more information:

Target: [ Meng Jue ]

Alignment: [ ★★★★ Contempt ]

Relationship: [ Enemy ]

Destiny Grade: [ Nascent ]

Fortuity Value: [ 448 ]

Luck Grade: [ A ]

’It’s no wonder that he was able to get himself into a position to ass kiss enough that Chu Xuan carried him to the greater continents.’ Qianye gave an exacerbated mental sigh. ’With luck that high, even if a brute like him has only Nascent grade Destiny—assumedly one of the lowest grades—you can still have a dazzling future.’

That being said, a brute he might be, but Meng Jue certainly wasn’t a total idiot.

He was emotional, short tempered and aggressive, but a blubbering fool? To call him that would be disingenuous.

He was certainly a goblin though.

Then came an even better whisper and he grinned faintly:

Nevertheless, in this dog-eat-dog world, propriety dictated that he as the villain should suppress him with his cultivation or status. Then despite the perfect opportunity to rid himself of the problem, let him escape so that he can return for revenge when he was stronger.

’But I’m in no position to fight him...’ This whole time, he had been wracking through his memories to understand more about the sect, correlating those understandings with what he knew about the should have been narrative. ’The hard way is the only way to do this.’

"Good...good, good!" Meng Jue growled, veins bulging over his forehead as he stomped forward, fists clenched and nose huffing breath. "Today, in the name of righteousness, I will rid the sect of you. I’m sure you trying to kill me is all the proof these witnesses need to understand there is nothing honourable about you and that witch!"

"You misunderstand, Meng Jue," Qianye’s countenance didn’t waver as the brute came to stand before him, "I wasn’t trying to kill you."

"You have lost your mind! What is that then? Is it not a blade thrown with the intent to kill!?" freēwēbnovel.com

Meng Jue’s hand stabbed to the back of him. The sword had cut through and embedded itself into the concrete.

Then he brought his hand forward to point at the cut across the side of his face and a little through the edge of his ear, growling, "You mean to try tell me despite this evidence of aggression, you had not been trying to kill me?"

Qianye, without standing in ceremony before him shook his head faintly. He pivoted, walking around and heading for the sword as he began, "You keep talking about evidence, what evidence is there, really, that I tried to kill you?"

The crowd that had been growing in their murmurs when he tried to deny trying to kill Meng Jue gradually fell to a hush. Ouyang Qianye felt all of their gazes burn across his figure, on the blood that curtained his back especially, as he brought himself before the blade.

"The sword is only an item that happened to fly free from my hands when i threw it in this general direction. It was a coincidence that you happened to be in the way of its path." Qianye’s shoulders shrugged here, giving a brief scoff of a laugh, "If it had just so happened to pierce you through the head, it only would have been an accident."

"Bah! You are lying!" Xiao Bo spat, laughing to himself, "Who here did not see that malicious look in you eyes when you threw the sword? You even screamed Meng Jue’s name with the passion of vengeance!"

"The sword has even cut him across the face and ear! If he had not moved, would his head not have been skewered? He would have died instantly, and you mean to tell us you were not trying to kill him and it would have only been an accident? Since being defeated have your brains rotten as well?" Mo Chen stabbed an accusing finger at him.

Ouyang Qianye, at the same time, without giving them the grace of an answer, was pulling the sword out of the ground, or at least he was attempting to. He pulled with one hand and the sword did not budge.

"Do you hear this, people?" Meng Jue began, his arms spread wide, making a spectacle of himself as he spilled a contemptuous chuckle. "If this fools mind had not been corroded by profanity, how could he think so indifferently about accidentally killing an inner disciple who has done nothing but defend himself and attempt to enact justice on behalf of the sect?"

The people broke into murmurs of discussion. Some spoke as if confirming their understandings of the rumours that had always surrounded him from his Core Disciple days. Others spoke of their fear and wonders at how he could speak so coldly despite what they all saw him do.

However, there wasn’t a unanimous voice between them all this time.

Ouyang Qianye by this point had gripped the handle with both hands, yanking once more.

The sword hardly budged this time as he growled and groaned.

He had to hold back his grin, thinking of the effects of his theatrics, in his struggles to pull the sword out of the concrete.

Veins bulged across his legs, arms and neck. Their thickness was especially pronounced with his unnourished, scrawny figure as he tried all kinds of postures to pull.

Suddenly, Meng Jue’s voice gonged through the yard, "You dare disregard me, Ouyang Qianye!?"

And that was finally when Qianye wrenched the sword free from the ground and he fell to his ass.

The steel clattered over the ground as the relief made him grab for breath, laughing faintly.

’So impatient...’

He stood himself up off of the ground, dusting nothing but his shame off, feeling the curses of Meng Jue and his goons behind him.

[ You have lampooned an individual with Nascent grade Destiny. Meng Jue has lost 1 Fortuity, and you have gained 1 Fortuity. ]

[ Your actions have affected Meng Jue’s Alignment towards you. His contempt grows darker at your insults. ]

Qianye smiled faintly at himself hearing that euphonious voice once again. Small wins were wins regardless of how small they might initially seem. Rome was not built over a single night.

’Go ahead and seethe. What fucks do you think I give about you glaring and shouting? As long as I don’t attack first, you can’t do anything to me without risking serious trouble.’

Even with that being said, he was not calm. How could he be?

After all, Meng Jue was right.

Ouyang Qianye was, a profane practitioner.
