Chapter 11: The Guilty or the Guiltless ~ 3
The supervisors brows furrowed deeper, and he clenched his jaw faintly.
"She is a servant granted to me by the sect, so I am sure you as one of the disciplinary hall supervising elders, Elder Han, understand what I am saying better than most." Ouyang Qianye’s brows furrowed deeply, and he snarled, "Meng Jue threw an attack that would have killed my elf had she not retaliated. Only if her life was being threatened would she have been allowed to fight back with equivalent intent, and I trust she is not stupid enough to have done so otherwise."
Thereupon, everyone went silent once more.
Ouyang Qianye knew that even if the man before him was reasonable, he had to give a damned good explanation, fool proofed to save her from trouble as well. The status of servants was already low in a world like this. Not to mention one that was an elf, with their historic enmities with humanity.
His gaze remained on the man. After so many years of being crippled, in a wheelchair hardly able to move at all, the one thing that you learn how to do well, is to pay attention and observe. Ouyang Qianye could see the conflict in the man’s eyes, and the curiosity, perhaps wondering why he was going so far as to argue for the elf as well.
He watched as Elder Han Tieliang’s eyes drifted over to her, and he didn’t follow with his own gaze.
’In part though, I feel a little discontented with myself,’ the thought flitted, ’but at least it worked. Now that his focus has shifted onto her, I can be a little more at ease.’
In that moment, when supervisor Han, for the first time since his arrival, looked at her, she spoke:
"I swear, by the Eldertree," The words slithered out of her, and the enforcers, and supervisor, who knew about elven culture, widened their eyes and the enforcer that had held her down clenched his jaw, " did not attack first. I attacked only in defence of my life and my master. Had his fist hit me in the head, I would have died."
’Good girl! I knew you would get it!’
Ouyang Qianye had silently this whole time through his defence of her, hoped that she would confirm his words just exactly as she had, by swearing on their Eldertree.
’It’s a relief to have smart companions and reckless enemies.’

He quickly sobered his countenance and then, rather loudly, plead, "Supervisor Han did you hear that? Fist is what she said! Even if she is an elf that is going too far when all she did was defend the sanctity of my rest and abode! Not to mention it confirms the threat on her life!" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"Elder Han that witch is lying! I only intended to slap her! She is the one that mistook my slap for a threat to her life!"
For the first time, Qianye released a wide, toothy grin, more glorious than the goblins slathered in shame had had theirs. However, with that gaunt countenance of his, it seemed more inglorious than anything.
’Finally!’
Within moments of Meng Jue hollering, before Elder Han had said anything yet or pressed him to the ground like he had Xiao Bo, Qianye roared:
"Swear by it then!" He laughed loudly, "Swear by it on your Dao Heart this moment and reiterate what you have just said! It is only right that you do in kind as I and my elf have if you’ve mustered the balls to disrespect Elder Han who had explicitly graced me with the silence to voice my defences!"
Meng Jue’s finger stabbed forward at the silent, poised elf, spitting fire, "That wretch did not swear by her Dao Heart!"
She furrowed her brows deeply, though did not respond, and yet at the same time, Qianye burst out in mocking, "I told you, you are an obtuse plebian Meng Jue. A witless goblin! Your ignorance knows no bounds beyond barking accusations! Even if you hate elves, how can you know nothing about something so crucial to them? You’re like a whore strutting into a battlefield offering discounts after winning the lottery. Are there any lows that you will not fall to this afternoon?"

Meng Jue there looked as if he had swallowed back down the innards he had relieved himself of briefly.
And supervisor Han looked back at him then, his brows furrowed deeply.
"Swear it by your Dao Heart that you did not attack her with the intent to kill her, inner disciple Meng Jue."
Meng Jue’s stabbing, accusatory finger folded back into itself like a timid dogs tail, and his lips shut tight.
"Then stand there with your mouth shut." Elder Han Tieliang threatened, cutting a chill through even Qianye’s spine, "Speak out of turn once more and your punishment with be multiplied by each letter you utter."
The elder turned his gaze to looked back down at Qianye, "There is still the matter of you attempting to kill him."
Qianye watched the man cross his arms behind his back, hid brows furrowing a little.
"You will be excused for the false accusations of profanity. However, outside of the life or death arena, attacking fellow disciples with the intent to kill remains to be a taboo. So, will you swear by whatever defence that you have on your Dao Heart as well?"
Ouyang Qianye gave way to faint, though audacious smile, "Certainly, Elder Han. I swear by my Dao Heart that my response is not a lie not by omission neither is it by intent." He laughed to himself briefly, then he glanced over to Meng Jue.
"You had said I was lying earlier as well, did you not? Well, I will say it once again," he looked back up at the supervisor, "I had no intention of killing inner disciple Meng Jue. He only happened to be in the path that I threw the sword in, and the only intentions that I had when throwing it, were,"
Qianye raised his hand and then began with counting the first finger, "to first of all scare him off of strangling my elf to death, which is something he very conveniently omitted mentioning. Moreover, this intention rather than being attached to the sword that I threw, was conveyed through the desperate shout I gave. The sword only happened to leave my hand at the same time."
Then he raised the second finger, "And secondly, to return the sword to its rightful owners."
