Chapter 2459: Chapter 2460: Mist
The sky was dark red, the city silent, and the streets littered with vehicle wreckage and battle scars, all testament to what had transpired in Baiman City.
Utilizing a Netherworld shift, Feng Yuan and his team bypassed the outer defenses and directly entered the city district of Baiman City. Looking at the lifeless city, everyone felt unsettled, especially Qi Chen and the others. After all, they had just returned from this place not long ago, yet now the city had become like this.
"The Divine Beasts’ intelligence network is functioning normally. They haven’t blocked the Divine Beasts’ intelligence network, but I haven’t sensed any signs of life."
Veronia spoke as she looked at Najia, who shook his head and said,
"I haven’t detected any life either. No, to be precise, even tiny insects don’t exist. What on earth have they done?"
Under normal circumstances, insects wouldn’t disappear so completely unless a special ultimate move was used for cleansing. However, they hadn’t sensed energy traces from any widespread ultimate move.
Baiman City knew from the messages brought by the Red Brocade when it was surrounded, and energy should not have dissipated so quickly just within a few days.
"I don’t know. Be careful, though it’s not Twisted Beimode, there’s a similar aura present."
With narrowed eyes, Feng Yuan warned, even though the aura was very faint, he had still sensed it. Veronia was taken aback; Twisted Beimode’s kindred? Wouldn’t that still be an existence recorded in the Forbidden Codex?
Najia didn’t know about Twisted Beimode, but seeing Feng Yuan and Veronia’s serious expressions gave it a bad feeling.
Tamur circled around Feng Yuan and said,
"I feel the Mythical Era’s propagation is restricted here."
"It must be the Rune’s influence. Although its power isn’t considered strong, its authority is quite high."
Upon hearing this, Feng Yuan suspected something. The uniqueness of the Anti-Divine Beast lay in that each represented a distinct rule, and as such, their authority typically ranked higher than ordinary Divine Beasts, even comparable to the Guardians of the Yin World.
Otherwise, Tamur wouldn’t have such a strange feeling.
It was no surprise to Feng Yuan that they would use the Twisted Rune, given that they heavily utilized Twisted Beimode’s Rune in Maomu City. In comparison, the actions in Baiman City were obviously more critical, hence using it was quite normal.
However, this also proves one thing: they don’t just have Twisted Beimode’s Runes.
"I wonder what the rule could be. Let’s hope it’s not something troublesome."
Veronia said and released her perception, but unfortunately, within her perceptive range, there still wasn’t any sign of life.
The whole city seemed dead, but did they really possess such formidable power? Or, what exactly was in Baiman City that warranted their full force?
"Hard to say; let’s hope it’s not that thing."
Considering a possibility, Feng Yuan’s expression turned grim, but he had only a feeling; he was unclear if this was the case.
Elsewhere, Agunas’s team also breached the initial Spatial Loop, but hadn’t gone far before Agunas detected issues.
"A trap?!"
It hadn’t expected the opponents to set up chain traps. Initially, Agunas forcefully used Time River power to cover the area, essentially eradicating all potential traps.
After all, it was enforcing a time shift of the space back to its previous state, before the traps were set. However, now they had triggered them.
Could these things ignore time rules? This was regard to Divine Beasts’ Authority! Agunas gasped at the realization and shouted,
"Stop!"
Though unsure why Agunas wanted them to halt, the rescue team didn’t disregard its warning. After all, it was a Divine Beast; beyond insight, even its perception was far superior to theirs.
"There’s a trap here, and it’s already triggered. Although I don’t know what it is, I have a very bad feeling."
Speaking thus, Agunas hesitated no more. The power of the Time River descended, enveloping the team and their Spirit Beasts. At that moment, waves of red mist emerged from the silver-white starlight, or appeared more like something contacting the scorching starlight emanating vapor.
"Damn! What is that?!"
Though it was just red mist, Agunas sensed something different — those twisted and malicious energies likely recorded in the Forbidden Codex!
Anti-Divine Beast Runes! Instantly, Agunas thought of this peculiar entity. Just how many forbidden Runes did those guys possess?
The more Anti-Divine Beast Runes the adversaries manifested, the stronger Agunas’s inclination to eliminate them grew. After all, their destruction to the Main World was evident.
However, how to handle them required further planning. While Agunas could dismantle the Imperial Timeline, the repercussions of such actions needed careful deliberation.
Nonetheless, despite this, Agunas contemplated directly obliterating the Imperial Timeline since their current exhibited destructive power was overwhelmingly strong.
It wasn’t about fearing anything exceeding the Divine Beasts’ control; Agunas worried about them going berserk. If the restraint stayed within human internal strife, it wouldn’t have been problematic, but if they widened the scope of war, then it could be troubling.
The Anti-Divine Beast, born to target Divine Beasts, was inherently specialized. Even if eventually abandoned, and only Runes remained in their possession, this wasn’t impossible to be used against Divine Beasts, with a slight chance of victory if ambushed alone.
"I wonder how Feng Yuan’s side is doing."
Watching the continuous red mist flow, Agunas felt uneasy. If not for the Time River’s comprehensive protection, they wouldn’t have even realized the problem.
After all, this red mist could penetrate nearly all barriers and ultimate moves. And given the mist’s nature, Agunas and the others suspected it might be toxic.
"Hmm? Is there a problem with the air?"
Receiving Agunas’s message, Veronia looked around curiously. Considering Agunas implied even it hadn’t detected anything, Veronia didn’t believe simply observing would identify suspicious factors.
No matter, Feng Yuan was here. If he conducted a serious investigation, finding issues wouldn’t be a concern.
"There’s a problem with the air?"
The puzzled Feng Yuan glanced at Veronia. Had she discovered something?
Nodding slightly, Veronia briefly recounted events on Agunas’s end, causing Feng Yuan to frown and pull out the black Ancient Book, gently stroking its cover; golden characters emerged surrounding everyone.
After a while, Feng Yuan shook his head and said,
"There’s nothing here, perhaps a specific area trap. At least not here...anything."
Gazing at the red mist emerging in the distance, Feng Yuan narrowed his eyes. This thing was anything but simple!
"Tamur! Give everyone a Mythical Transformation. Qi Chen, go all out without holding back, Xiao Ji! Domain Awakening, Crimson Judgement!"
"What?!
Feng Yuan’s shout startled everyone; beyond surprise, Feng Yuan’s insistence on Xiao Ji’s full force indicated he’d detected something critical.
The red mist thickened, a bloody scent emerged. To Veronia and the others’ senses, behind the mist, a powerfully intense Life Force arose out of nowhere.
What could it be?
Although startled, Veronia didn’t neglect to activate the ultimate move. Despite Tamur’s Mythical Transformation not yet affecting Veronia, she promptly executed the Divine Beast Technique.
Crystalline Giant quickly formed, enveloped by the Crystal Luminance Stone Torrent like a swathe around its body. Glaring at the engulfing building in the red mist, atop the Crystalline Giant, Veronia maintained a serious expression.
Tamur’s Mythical Transformation descended, Veronia didn’t re-activate the previous Divine Beast Technique but instead used Mythical Transformation power to trigger another.
The Crystal Palace arrived, and a skill used in the Parallel World was reused; guardians surged forth forming ranks in front of everyone.
"Starting off with a grand gesture? No, although the life level is extremely high, the offensive doesn’t seem that strong."
Holding the Black Scythe, Feng Yuan looked at the mist and murmured. Qi Chen and others naturally didn’t dare slack, commanding their Beasts to employ their strongest moves using the power of Mythical Transformation.
Najia shifted to attack mode, staring at the opposing side. With the Mythical Transformation power, it started forcefully bringing forth the descending Stars Breaking Domain.
As for whether this attack would cause significant damage to Baiman City? At this moment, such concerns were secondary!
