Chapter 1491: Chapter 67: Whose Man

"I..."

Lying on the bed, Fisher’s lips parted slightly in response to Elliog’s words. The pronoun "I" had escaped his lips, but the rest of the words seemed to be stuck in his throat and did not come out right away.

Upon hearing his voice, the smile on Elliog’s face became even more radiant, and she urged,

"Hmm, hurry up and speak."

"..."

Fisher swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and for some reason, an ominous feeling suddenly arose within him.

Although she is not here now, Fisher could not guarantee that she was unaware he had entered the dynasty. Given her attention to him, she might often be lurking in the shadows, spying on his every move. He found it hard to say whether what he was about to say would reach her ears.

Fisher could certainly gamble that she was not present, and he could see this as a necessary step to earn Elliog’s help. After all, it was just a few simple words.

Yet, from the bottom of his heart, Fisher clearly understood what Elliog wanted him to say.

She wanted him to sever ties with Helair. She despised the woman who, like a demon, had left a mark on Fisher. That was why she needed Fisher’s pledge... Yes, to Fisher, this was more than just hollow words. It was a promise and an oath, and Elliog likely valued such vows greatly.

So, could Fisher sever his connection with Helair?

Fisher did not answer immediately but instead placed a hand over his heart, where it felt as though a phantom bow and arrow, belonging to some "Cupid," had pierced directly into his soul.

He could not sever the ambiguous relationship he had with Helair.

As soon as this thought emerged, it rooted itself like that sharp "Arrow of Love," impossible to erase.

He certainly could not claim he wasn’t Helair’s man because there was a time in the past when they belonged to each other.

Fisher recalled Helair’s words very clearly, remembering that encounter at the abandoned shipyard of the Red Dragon Court just ten days ago. It was the first time since his return that he saw her, still surviving in the guise of "Paimon."

At that time, she spoke softly to Fisher, feigning nonchalance yet unable to hide her sadness,

"To me, it’s been an eternity, yet I’ve never changed; for you, it’s been a brief moment, yet you have changed so quickly..."

In terms of emotions, Fisher was indeed greedy, as everyone knew. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have engaged with numerous ladies so recklessly, even if he wasn’t proactive about it. Yet, he never refused...

Even so, it didn’t mean he was irresponsible and heartless. He remembered those words from Helair and did not dare to forget.

He dared not forget that, like Tangze Asuka, Helair had waited for him for ten thousand years. He also remembered that even though her plans involved releasing two demons and targeting Rafael, it was all to free him from the Doomsday Prophecy’s prison...

Though he could neither support her methods nor accept the fate of any woman who perished, he also couldn’t deny or betray Helair’s feelings for him.

"I..."

He fell silent, and as the wait prolonged, the smile on Elliog’s face faded to an expressionless look.

Yet, Elliog did not interrupt his contemplation, determined to hear that answer from his own lips.

"I can’t say that, Elliog."

"..."

The surrounding shadows began to stir again, as if Fisher’s quiet words had injected new life into them, bringing about an unnoticed vitality...

Hmm, and perhaps a hint of unspeakable joy?

Fisher didn’t know, and Elliog, whose face was increasingly sour, didn’t feel inclined to know.

At this moment, sitting on the bed, she only felt an irritation as she crossed her legs, wrapped her arms, and stared sharply at Fisher’s chest, as if intending to carve out that verdant, indelible mark, flesh and all.

But she ultimately did not do so, perhaps not because Fisher had reached the Mythical Rank and wasn’t someone she could currently contend with. Instead, she ground her teeth and remarked,

"...Paimon... Paimon! Has she brainwashed you, making you so loyal to her?! Think carefully, do you believe she truly cares for you? A deceitful scoundrel like her, capable of deceiving, toying with, and discarding her own kind! You’re just a human, and she’d consume you until not even your bones remain, and even in death, you’d still think fondly of her!"

The fortress became much brighter, as the light burst forth from Elliog’s sealed form at the back of the castle due to her emotional surge, even overshadowing some of the dark purple seal with the sudden eruption of light.

The castle’s gloom was partially dispelled by that firelight, yet it couldn’t obscure the mocking gaze watching Elliog in her fury, reminiscent of an audience watching a circus performance, though without the clamor.

Fisher did not reply to her but instead quietly gazed at Elliog and asked,

"...Elliog, you too are a demon. Was that what you thought when you gave yourself to me? Was your relationship with me intended to consume me until nothing remained?"
