Chapter 9: The Water Tank Awakens
The ceiling ruptured completely.
Black water poured into the lobby like a collapsing ocean.
Not liquid.
Not fully.
It moved too slowly, too deliberately—like something alive pretending to be water.
The superintendent staggered backward for the first time.
"No... no, not now..."
The stitched mouths beneath his eyelids screamed in overlapping panic.
The giant shadow behind him convulsed violently.
Every mouth on its body opened at once.
"HUNGRY."
"HUNGRY." freewebnoveℓ.com
"HUNGRY."
Shen Yu looked up at the flooding ceiling calmly.
So that’s it.
The water tank wasn’t just a container.
It was a seal.
And the seal had just been broken.
The mother’s voice echoed again from above, no longer distant.
It was inside the building now.
"...you kept them here..."
The black water thickened midair, forming faint outlines of small bodies.
Children.
Dozens of them.
Twisting.
Crawling.
Trying to form shapes they no longer fully remembered.
The superintendent dropped to one knee.
For the first time—
Fear broke his composure.
"I didn’t have a choice..."
The mother’s voice sharpened slightly.
"...you always had a choice."
The black water slammed downward.
The entire lobby shattered under the impact.
Shen Yu activated Blink instantly.
Red light flashed—
—but this time, something grabbed him mid-transition.
His body froze inside the red glow.
Pain exploded through his nervous system.
He reappeared halfway across the lobby, crashing into a broken wall.
His eyes widened slightly.
Blink was interrupted.
Impossible.
The superintendent stood slowly again, breathing heavily.
"...domain collapse is beginning..."
He looked at Shen Yu with hollow eyes.
"You shouldn’t be here when they wake up."
Shen Yu wiped blood from his lips.
"I get that a lot."
The black water began rising again.
But now it wasn’t random.
It was forming a shape.
A structure.
A staircase made of drowned memories.
Leading upward.
To the rooftop.
The mother descended along it slowly.
Not walking.
Floating.
Behind her—
The guardian crawled out of the water, completely broken, dragging its twisted body behind her like a discarded puppet.
And beneath the water surface—
Something else was moving.
Larger.
Older.
The superintendent suddenly shouted.
"STOP HER—!"
The giant shadow monster lunged forward immediately.
But the moment it entered the black water—
It stopped.
Frozen.
Then began shaking violently.
All its mouths screamed in unison.
"NO—NO—NO—"
Its body started dissolving.
Not destroyed.
Rewritten.
Shen Yu’s eyes narrowed.
The water was rewriting monsters.
Turning them into something else.
The mother raised her hand slightly.
The shadow creature collapsed completely.
Gone.
The superintendent froze in horror.
"...you absorbed it..."
The mother didn’t answer.
Her gaze moved toward Shen Yu.
He felt it immediately.
Not hostility.
Not curiosity.
Recognition.
The black water around him didn’t attack. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
It circled instead.
Like it was remembering him.
Shen Yu frowned slightly.
"That’s not normal."
The bride’s voice suddenly cut through the chaos.
"Obviously it’s not normal!"
She reappeared behind him, stumbling out of a tear in space.
Her hair was partially burned away.
Her expression furious.
"I was trapped in your stupid Blink rupture space!"
Shen Yu glanced at her briefly.
"Good timing."
"Don’t ’good timing’ me!"
But she stopped abruptly when she saw the water.
Her expression changed instantly.
"...this isn’t a ghost anymore."
Shen Yu nodded slightly.
"It’s something else."
The mother finally spoke again.
"...you remember..."
Shen Yu paused.
The water rippled around him.
Something inside it stirred.
Fragments of memory flashed through his mind again.
A small apartment.
A bathtub overflowing.
A child’s hand knocking from inside the pipes.
Then—
His vision blurred slightly.
That memory wasn’t his.
The bride noticed his expression shift.
"...what did you see?"
Shen Yu didn’t answer immediately.
Because something was wrong.
The system notification flickered violently.
[WARNING: UNKNOWN ENTITY INTEGRATION DETECTED]
[PLAYER SOUL RESONANCE INCREASING]
The superintendent suddenly shouted again.
"DON’T LET HER FINISH REMEMBERING!"
The water exploded upward.
This time forming countless hands.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
All reaching for Shen Yu.
The bride immediately attacked, black hair surging forward to block them.
But the water simply passed through her attacks.
Like they weren’t physical at all.
The bride’s eyes widened.
"...conceptual attack?"
Shen Yu finally understood.
The water wasn’t just a seal.
It was memory itself.
And the mother wasn’t just a ghost.
She was the accumulation of everything the building had swallowed.
The superintendent grabbed his head violently.
"I sealed them to stop this!"
"They would have eaten the city!"
The mother stopped walking.
For the first time—
Her expression changed.
Not sadness.
Not anger.
Something colder.
"...you didn’t seal us."
The water behind her rose like a throne.
"...you buried us alive."
The entire building shook violently.
The rooftop above cracked open further.
Moonlight began leaking through.
And then—
A sound.
A child laughing.
Soft.
From above.
The superintendent froze.
"...no..."
The black water surged upward instantly.
Shen Yu’s instincts screamed.
Danger rising exponentially.
The rooftop seal wasn’t just breaking.
It was finishing.
The bride grabbed Shen Yu’s arm.
"We need to leave NOW."
Shen Yu didn’t move.
Because he saw it.
A notification he had never seen before.

Shen Yu exhaled slowly.
"So that’s what this is."
The bride stared at him.
"What?"
Shen Yu looked upward at the broken ceiling.
"The dungeon isn’t haunted."
"It’s alive."
Above them—
Something massive shifted inside the rooftop water tank.
And for the first time—
It opened its eyes.
