Chapter 532: Chapter 532 : (Extra) Jiang Muchen’s Love Story (16)
People didn’t usually make an offer to someone who was about to face an execution.
Jiang Muchen’s words thus ignited a flicker of hope within him.
"I am listening, Your Majesty," he calmly answered.
"You shall be my wife."
"..."
"In name only," Jiang Muchen added with arched brows.
Of course.
Relief washed over Liu Chengjiu, but an indescribably strange unease also pierced his heart at the same time.
"The way I see it, you and your brother need a safe haven, and I need a wife to stop my mother from pestering me further.
So this can be considered a good deal for both of us, don’t you think so?"
In name only, so Jiang Muchen probably wouldn’t need him to attend to any marital duties, Liu Chengjiu noted to himself. It wasn’t a bad offer, really.
"It is," he agreed.
"Unfortunately, my mother has a set of qualities he would like to see in his future son-in-law. I need you to present yourself to him in three months, demonstrating that you possess these qualities."
Liu Chengjiu was more than ready to get to work.
In his eagerness, he shifted restlessly on his seat and blurted out, "And what qualities are we talking about here, pray tell?"
Jiang Muchen pursed his lips.
"I need you to be as elegant, demure, and capable as Qin Yanmei in every aspect possible. Additionally, I need you to excel in martial arts."
"..."
All omegas knew the kind of skills they were expected to cultivate, but they did not usually include martial arts.
Thus it made complete sense when Liu Chengjiu gaped at Jiang Muchen upon hearing his words.
"Excel in martial arts? I do not practice martial arts at all." frёeωebɳovel.com
"You can use a bow and arrows," Jiang Muchen readily supplied.
"For hunting, yes. But I have never dabbed in cultivation before."
The arrows he shot were not brimming with spiritual energy. Those were normal arrows, propelled purely by the strength of his arms.
Jiang Muchen pulled his lips into a cryptic smile.
It quickly became apparent to Liu Chengjiu that the Shuiran Palace Master did not share his concern at all.
"Cultivation will help you a lot in the future. I will provide you with all necessary reading material to start, and I will also provide a good teacher for you."
Liu Chengjiu’s jaw dropped open in shock.
"But Your Highness...!"
"Unless you would rather back off this deal and return to Wuyang Palace?"
"..."
All manners of protests died out in Liu Chengjiu’s throat.
No, he couldn’t go back to Wuyang Palace.
Forget about his fate upon crossing the palace gate, what was going to happen to his younger brother? And to his former pack members...?
"No," he said. "I am willing to learn."
"Very good," Jiang Muchen beamed at him. "Then we will start tomorrow."
By chance, his eyes were drawn to the embroidered cloth on the tea table.
"What’s that?"
"Oh, this..."
Liu Chengjiu grabbed the embroidery and held it before Jiang Muchen with both hands.
"I had a lot of free time in my hands, so I decided to embroider something for Your Highness, in gratitude for everything you have done for us."
Jiang Muchen did not bother to even take the embroidery from Liu Chengjiu’s hands.
"Do not waste your time doing these senseless exercises," he said. "If you really want to thank me, you better fulfill your part of the deal and not embarrass me in front of my mother."
Liu Chengjiu’s pupils shook and his lips trembled violently, but thankfully Jiang Muchen made no comment of his pathetic reaction.
"Yes, Your Highness," he murmured. "I will not disappoint you."
Jiang Muchen scoffed.
For all he cared, Liu Chengjiu could not be any more of a disappointment. He could only improve in the future. That ought to be enough for now.
"You are dismissed," he then said. "I need to get back to work."
"Yes, Your Highness."
Liu Chengjiu left, taking his embroidery work with him, and Jiang Muchen lay down on the couch.
Aaaah, he thought to himself, a self-sufficient smile forming on his lips.
Maybe he was just making a mountain out of a molehill.
Cultivation was easy.
Anyone could do it.
So what if omegas typically did not cultivate?
Look at Xie Jianyu and his amazing achievements. He could beat any alpha in swordsmanship without shedding a single bead of sweat.
At the very least, Liu Chengjiu did not appear like typical omegas, who only knew how to display their weak and fragile sides.
The more Jiang Muchen thought about it, the more optimistic he became.
Ha! Victory was upon the horizon! He was finally going to be free of his mother’s endless nagging and live his life the way he intended.
True to his words, Jiang Muchen recruited the most capable teacher in the entire realm to instruct Liu Chengjiu in the art of cultivation.
This commandant served directly under Wu Shenxia, and was personally recommended by said general for his years of experience in instructing and training new military recruits.
There was only one problem with this arrangement.
Said teacher was an alpha.
One glance at his prospective student was enough to make him resign from his post.
"Your Highness, I am not arrogant enough to assume that I will never be tempted by Young Master Liu here. I advise Your Highness to please reconsider this arrangement!"
Jiang Muchen’s face darkened in response.
"I thought that you are mated and married," he pointed out while staring at the alpha opposite him.
"Mated and married alpha can still be tempted by other omegas, Your Highness!" The horrified commandant said in reply.
"Hmph! That’s because you are not capable of curbing your carnal desires!" Jiang Muchen scoffed in disdain. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"..."
The commandant was rendered speechless by Jiang Muchen’s reply.
If he did not know about Jiang Muchen’s famously incurable uncle complex, he might think that Jiang Muchen was incapacitated down there.
Despite much persuasion, Jiang Muchen was unable to make the commandant stay behind.
Jiang Muchen was left with no other choice but to find another teacher.
There was only one other person he could think of, that was fit to teach another omega.
It was none other than his revered Little Uncle, the one and only Crown Prince Xie Jianyu.
