Chapter 935: Chapter 935: Competitor

"What’s up?" Li Xiaoyun walked over.

On the way past her own desk, she first placed her bag on it before continuing toward Zhou Yunyun.

Li Xiaoyun has always arrived at the company much earlier than the official start time.

Otherwise, how could she have the capability to compete for the department manager position?

Besides being highly competent, she is diligent and capable.

From the time she joined the company as a newcomer, she exhibited exceptional diligence and effort.

Initially, while she was still getting the hang of her work, she would almost always be the earliest to arrive and the last to leave.

It wasn’t to show off to the leaders but rather to get up to speed with the work as quickly as possible.

Moreover, being a newly hired employee fresh out of college, she had no experience.

It was inevitable that she’d be bullied by senior employees.

Though it might not exactly be bullying.

Many of the trivial tasks originally belonged to the senior employees themselves.

But since there were newcomers, they wouldn’t want to do those trivial tasks anymore.

It was quite natural for them to pass those chores on to the newcomers.

She had to learn the department’s work while handling the chores.

It inevitably extended her working hours.

While others were off work, Li Xiaoyun was still working.

If it were anyone else, many might feel it was unfair, harbor resentment, and wouldn’t extend their working hours or sacrifice personal rest for tasks not originally theirs.

But Li Xiaoyun never complained.

She just finished all the chores thrown her way by the seniors and completed her own work on time.

There were times when there was too much non-essential work, so naturally, she chose to complete her own work first before dealing with assignments given by the seniors, which were not her own.

But sometimes senior-level tasks were completed a bit late, so when a boss or a colleague from another department came asking, and the seniors couldn’t produce them, they would turn to her for answers.

But she hadn’t completed them yet, which inevitably led to being blamed and complained about by the seniors, with even harsher words sometimes spoken.

Even though the work wasn’t hers, as a newcomer, she had to bear the blame and take on the responsibility when criticized by seniors.

Li Xiaoyun experienced such times too.

But after getting through the newcomer period, and when new newcomers arrived, she was relieved.

She saw the newcomers become what she once was.

Having been in their shoes, Li Xiaoyun understood the difficulties of the time.

She considered that even the seniors had gone through the newcomer period.

Whether or not everyone had chores piled on them by seniors, they certainly met some good seniors.

But most probably faced difficulties.

It’s a bit like the mentality of a wife becoming the matriarch.

Having painstakingly climbed up the ranks, they try to exert some senior influence upon having newcomers, savoring the feeling of commanding them.

This has become a cycle.

A "tradition" passed down generation after generation.

Li Xiaoyun understood being a newcomer and didn’t want to relish the satisfaction of a long-time wife gaining status.

She couldn’t control her colleagues, but she wouldn’t pass her work onto newcomers.

This was her contribution.

As for other colleagues who still passed their work to newcomers, she couldn’t do much about it since she wasn’t a leader and couldn’t say much.

And the newcomers could only suffer in silence.

But even though Li Xiaoyun was no longer a newcomer, she didn’t let up.

Though she no longer had to handle the chores from seniors.

After completing her own work, she continued to study and learn.

To the point where overtime wasn’t necessary every single day.

After all, in the leader’s eyes, daily overtime doesn’t necessarily mean diligence.

It points to inefficiency in handling the workload effectively using regular working hours.

Instead, appearing to procrastinate and making use of overtime to gain overtime pay.

Li Xiaoyun demonstrated her efforts consistently, proving herself to leaders and colleagues.

She wasn’t just diligent during her early days in business.

Even familiar with the department’s business, she still strives to do better.

Working late at night accrues overtime pay.

But arriving early in the morning does not.

Li Xiaoyun, however, arrives at the company early every day, using morning time effectively to start the day’s work efficiently.

The qualification to compete for department manager didn’t come out of thin air.

In the department, there are other colleagues with deeper resumes than her.

Yet no one has voiced objections, claiming Li Xiaoyun is unqualified for the competition.

This shows that Li Xiaoyun’s capabilities and diligence are indeed recognized.

Zhou Yunyun joined the company two years after Li Xiaoyun.

She was a newcomer and now has shed the title, as new employees joined.

Yet, Zhou Yunyun always remembers Li Xiaoyun’s kindness.

She recalls when she first joined the company, seniors passed off their own mix of minor tasks onto her.

Only Li Xiaoyun did not.

Zhou Yunyun felt particularly grateful.

Though Li Xiaoyun never fought for her grievances, Zhou Yunyun never felt this was wrong.

Li Xiaoyun was merely a regular employee, not a department leader.

In terms of seniority, there are many older employees ahead of her.

No matter how it is, Li Xiaoyun couldn’t speak up.

Help her with her tasks?

But it wasn’t Li Xiaoyun’s work.

If other seniors saw, what would they think of Li Xiaoyun?

Wouldn’t they say she’s meddling in others’ business?

We didn’t ask you to do our work; you did it, isn’t that asking for trouble?

Or deliberately provoking us?

At that point, Li Xiaoyun would be in a difficult position.

Zhou Yunyun truly understood this.

She is not an ungrateful girl.

Thus, Li Xiaoyun really liked her.

Moreover, as Zhou Yunyun chatted with colleagues from other departments, she discovered that Li Xiaoyun too was bullied when she first joined.

At that time, there wasn’t a senior like Li Xiaoyun who could understand her, avoid making things difficult for her, and minimize her workload.

Li Xiaoyun made it through herself.

Zhou Yunyun became increasingly certain that others likely experienced the same newcomer period challenges.

Yet others chose to continue bullying newcomers.

As if this way, they could make up for all past grievances.

Li Xiaoyun, however, chose to rectify this distorted "tradition."

She hoped new employees and old ones alike would complete their work themselves to prevent the bullying tradition from continuing one generation to the next.

Zhou Yunyun fully supports Li Xiaoyun taking over as their department manager.

With her in charge, the department’s atmosphere is sure to improve.

At that point, the other departments would be envious of theirs.

"Sister Xiao Yun," Zhou Yunyun spoke, "Do you know? I heard Zheng Xuelin might land a big deal."

Zheng Xuelin is Li Xiaoyun’s competitor.
